I seriously hope that bill does not pass. I have always believed that the government has no business deciding what people can or can’t do (marriage, eating, etc) PROVIDED it is not hurting others. Obese people should definitely do something about their health but since when should the government tell them what to eat? If obese people need more treatment, they should pay a premium for it.

I am a non-smoker and don’t have a problem with nicotine-addicted-people sections in restaurants as long as there is a section for non-nicotine-addicts. I do have a problem with an environment where non-nicotine-addicts have to inhale noxious and toxic fumes from the nicotine-addicts. Why should an addict detrimentally affect my own health?

Don’t they realize that weight is a recognized disability in most states?

There are more causes for weight than just eating too much. Genetics come into play more than what people know.

Also, has anyone ever heard of Webber Cushions Disease? This is an actual disease my cousin has that the body doesn’t rid itself of fat; it somehow grows, and cells multiply from what I understand.

Guy, I re-read my post and I mentioned liberals once, I mentioned neither Democrat nor Republican. I know that two Republicans sponsored the bill, that does not mean they are not liberal. Big government, over-regulation nanny state supporting politicians are liberals in my book, Democrats or Republicans. The less government intrusion the better.
So yes, they are Republicans, but they are pushing liberal, I know better than you agendas. To me they are liberals.

A lot of bills that thought weren’t going to pass, has before in the past, went into law. Consider the laws that were passed in many of our states in history. It seems that some people are reverting back in their genome pool. Which each additional descendant they become more and more stupid. Perhaps there should be a law that states that you aren’t worthy based on your IQ. The BMI is equal to that of an IQ test in that sense. I believe that it is irresponsible for the writer of this bill to use the law to make a statement. The writer of the bill, who doesn’t even think that the bill will pass, but just wants to raise everyone’s interest and concern to the growing obesity in our country. Its a waste of time and tax payers money.

Did anyone actually look at the bill. First of all, you’re trying to convince us that the “liberal” legislature is working on this. In which state? Mississippi? That’s right, they are just known to be outrageously liberal in Mississippi. Also, the bill is being sponsored by three people: 2 republicans and 1 democrat. If you’re going to bitch about politics, at least do the minimum amount of homework required. Or go work for Fox news.

Aren’t obese people the ones who eat out most often? It seems to me some restaurants will be hurting for business if this bill did manage to pass. Idiots!

Frank, I don’t blame you for being angry. I am neither a smoker or obese, but I hate to see these personal decisions being taken away. I would probably feel the same way as you do if I smoked, I would be laughing too.
As Rico said, the government thinks they can make better decisions for us than we can make for ourselves. Even if that were true the question is, should they? And the answer is, NO!

I LOVE IT! People love the government controls when it serves their personal interests, but hate the government when it shows up in their own backyard. Now, all the nonsmoking obese people can think about the monster they fed that led up to this issue.

As a smoker, you can bet I would vote this in. Why? 1) Since I am not obese, but I have to pay for all the extra medical care obese – wait a minute, FAT, people cause due to their poor heath and, the real reason, 2) because it won’t be until EVERYBODY loses their personal rights that we realize the damage we’ve done to our society.

People are down right RUDE to smokers because there’s no law against it. I’ve seen the seemingly nice people turn into the most insulting creatures on earth. All I can say is: “My Turn!”

This is very scary. I’m not obese – but I am a larger guy, and I travel 5 days a week all over the US. The US “land of the free” is a joke worldwide – this country has less freedom than Germany these days.

By the way – I note that these sort of bills are always blamed on “liberals” – when they get passed under a conservative government. Neither the democrats or the republicans are “liberal” otherwise your liberties wouldn’t be threatened this way.
