I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power, than by violent and sudden usurpations. James Madison

I am a 23 yr old... veteran/casualty (90%disability) of the Iraq war. I was a 19 yr old marine grunt when I arrived in Iraq, Husaybah. I was 20 when an IED blew me and my best friend up... he didnt survive. I now attend college at UNCAsheville. I am not well read, out spoken or even living a respectable life since my Corp. days ended.

I am , however, excited about this upcoming election! I think it is amazing what obama has done with his campaign (as a senator) for the presidency. he has created an image... a wonderful one in my opinion! a new! its ok to learn! Lincoln, Kennedy did... and, sure, i do fit the demographic for obama voters (just gotta remember to get my hungover body out of bed to vote!) but the eyes of the world are watching, and its great!

After 8 years of Bush spitting in its eye, the world is ready for a diplomat. Diparage Obama's tour as "politics" all you want, but give him credit for seeing the situation in Iraq firsthand and laying the groundwork for a responsible withdrawal. Thankfully Europe and the Middle East recognize Obama as a credible leader -- especially compared to Johnny Warhawk who joked that sending cigarettes to Iraq would be "one way of killing 'em". Barack the vote 08!!!

Funny, weren't the republicans ridiculing him for not visiting Afghanistan and Iraq? Now they ridicule him for visiting...

President Obama? I think you're being a bit pessimistic. There is a lot that can happen between now and November... we have not had any debates yet. Personally, I don't think that Obama is going to be able to get the support of the Hillary supporters in spite of the fact the two platforms and voting records were nearly identical (was someone copying from the other?). Also, I think McCain is starting to do a good job of distancing himself from Bush and making himself look like a moderate.

The hoopla over Obama's trip seems to be more like the hoopla one would make when a baby makes its first steps. However, I don't think McCain's sniping remarks are helping him.
