What would solve the present difficulties would be ballot access for independent voters, or the ability for independent voters to become candidates for office, the prevention of which is the one thing on which the two major parties agree and the one thing on which they will still work together. At 43% of the voting force, independent voters now outnumber the largest party. We need to get it to 53% so that independent voters outnumber both major parties. Encourage independent voter registration. Or to put it another way, as President George Washington advocated, discourage political parties.
