Evan Bayh announces he will not seek re-election

February 15, 2010

It is being reported that within the hour Democrat Senator Evan Bayh will hold a press conference in which he will announce that he will not seek re-election in November.

This could present the Republicans with a huge opportunity at picking up a senate seat that was not considered vulnerable, as Evan Bayh was leading his four possible Republican opponents in November by twenty points in the latest poll. Surely the Democrats considered this a secure seat– and Republicans probably thought this seat was not in play– but this announcement has changed that.

Most of the other Democrats who have announced they will not seek re-election faced tough election campaigns, but Evan Bayh does not fall into that category, this news seems to have come out of the blue. This could be a huge opportunity for Republicans.

Although the prospect of a GOP victory here may still not be great– there are two Democrats who appear poised to run for Bayh’s seat and Republicans were trailing Bayh by 20 points, whichever Democrat wins the primary will probably still have a lead on the Republican candidate– they have gotten allot better.

This seat is now in play, the game is changing.

I love it! Run liberals Run, we will vote you out anyways as soon as possible. Democrats will be slaughtered (figuratively speaking of course, lol) for many elections cycles to come! Great piece and keep up the good fight my friend!

Thank you! Reading around the internet today, I have become more hopeful that the GOP can pick up this seat than I was when I first posted this. The Democrats are headed for disaster at the polls in November, I can’t wait!

If the republicans pick up another seat you can kiss Obama’s health care bill goodbye

I think it already is dead, but one more vote against it will certainly help to ensure it.

I don’t know that his seat was a lock. Politico reported that he was actually behind as late as January. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0110/31958.html

I have read some stories now that claim his seat was not as safe as I was led to believe earlier today. This is good news for Republicans, the chances for a Republican pick up here are better than I thought they were.

They said he was a blue dog. Maybe his conscience got the better of him.
