Barack Obama wants to create an internet ID for all Americans
My friend Dominique over at 4Walls and a View sent me an interesting email about Barack Obama’s plan to create an internet ID for all Americans. There is a paragraph in this article that has a very interesting quote from White House Cybersecurity Coordinator Howard Schmidt, here it is:
White House Cybersecurity Coordinator Howard Schmidt told the website it is “the absolute perfect spot in the U.S. government” to centralize efforts toward creating an “identity ecosystem” for the Internet.
We already know that the FCC is taking the first step–in defiance of a court ruling–towards regulating the internet and now we are learning that Barack Obama plans on creating an “identity ecosystem” for the internet in the next few months. What exactly does this mean? According to Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, who was trying to assuage fears that the government is looking to create a nation ID card of sorts:
We are not talking about a national ID card. We are not talking about a government-controlled system. What we are talking about is enhancing online security and privacy, and reducing and perhaps even eliminating the need to memorize a dozen passwords, through creation and use of more trusted digital identities
He claims that this will be a government attempt at providing increased security and privacy for all Americans and may even lead to Americans not having to remember what their passwords are before logging on to secure sites. Does anyone really think that this is just an effort by the government to help Americans manage their passwords? Or is the government looking to create an online central database of all Americans and their internet habits? Howard Schmidt says creating a central database is not a goal of this legislation:
Schmidt stresses that anonymity will remain on the Internet, saying there’s no chance that “a centralized database will emerge.”
There is no chance a central database will emerge, are we really supposed to believe that? We all know how cookies are used to track internet usage and we are supposed to believe that this is nothing more that a benign attempt by the federal government to protect us, and we are supposed to believe that they will not be gathering information on us? And even if the one and only goal of this legislation would be to better protect the online security of Americans, are we actually supposed to believe that they are competent enough to do so? After all, we have a government which cannot protect their own classified documents, as was evidenced by WikiLeaks, claiming that they are going to create this new internet ID to protect Americans’ security and privacy online–we are supposed to believe they can do this for us when they cannot even keep their own house in order?
There is more to this story than meets the eye and between the FCC and the Obama regime, I do not like the sounds of this. We are going to have to keep a close eye on this situation moving forward.

Here is the main problem with Obama and the progressives – they are seeking solutions to problems that either don’t exist or nobody cares about. Where is the hew and cry about internet ID’s and security? It don’t freaking exist. Not to mention, this is as likely to freak out the left as the right.
WTF is an “identity ecosystem”. Anyone who comes up with a phrase like that needs to occasionally come out of the ivory tower and talk to a human every now and then.
Lastly, we won’t have to use passwords anymore, but we remain anonymous to the government? Uhh, how is that even supposed to be possible? since we are solving non-existent problems, can the government help me with my PIN code at the bank, oh oh, and my kids locker combination in school? You know, I have trouble remembering all the phone numbers in my life, can they fix that one too?
God, 2012 can’t come quick enough.
All good questions, and I wish I had answers! There is obviously another motive to this and I think that we all know what it is.
Good catch. We all know that the Obama Regime does nothing unless it brings them more power and control. The Internet is not broken so why does our government keep wanting to fix it?
Because they feel that it is broken. And they feel that way because they do not have control over it!
China has no problem navigating government internet “security.” Besides, some hacker will come up with software or code within a week to reroute that “ecosystem.” The only people they’ll be able to track is us.
This story is more than a little frightening!
This article made me think of the movie, The Net, with Sandra Bullock. Do your remeber that one. The government steals her identity and creates this bogus one and then comes after her. She’s says in the movie, (paraphrase) “They knew it all. Where I live, what I ate, what music I like, even what brand of cigarettes I smoke.”
Additionally, in the move a program to protect people’s private information on the internet and else where called the “Gate Keeper” was created which basically tracked every persons personal information, all of it.
I read this article and thought, Uh oh. Here we go.

It depends on who is saying “trust us.” In this case NO!

This is an excellent story or information for the over-educated Obamanites; especially those who might be hiding something. But I doubt if the lovefest will fade knowing how committed they are with putting a halo on his empty head.
This should bother them after all the outrage they had over the warrentless wiretapping, but somehow I don’t think they will mind. They will just fall in line.
Stunning. I loved the comment in the article that we wouldn’t need to remember so many passwords anymore. So kind of Zero. Please, let me struggle on. Of course the fact that they can then access everything would be just a minor point.
Isn’t it amazing that they actually think that they can fool us by claiming they are doing it so we won’t have to remember our passwords? It is even more amazing that they think we will be olay with the government remembering our passwords for us!
