Donald Trump is gaining steam in New Hampshire

April 6, 2011

As we head into the 2012 election cycle New Hampshire once again looks to be a hotbed of activity as we start the countdown to the first in the nation primary. Although no Republicans have officially announced they would be running for president we are beginning to see the first polls take place up here.

Two recent polls–the WSJ/NBC poll and the PPP poll–have been released and there are some interesting results. The two top vote getters are–in order–Mitt Romney and Donald Trump. According to the WSJ/NBC poll Romney leads Trump and Huckabee 21-17, while the PPP poll has Romney ahead of Trump 27-21 with Huckabee and Gingrich at 12%.

Another interesting tidbit is what happens to Mitt Romney’s lead when Donald Trump is not included in the poll. His lead jumps to 20% in the WSJ/NBC poll over his closest rival, Newt Gingrich. And his lead is more than double in the PPP poll over the closest contender, Mike Huckabee. With the exception of Mitt Romney and Donald Trump these two polls are conflicting on who the other serious contenders may be at this point.

So what does this tell me at this early point in the game? We had better get a real candidate in this race and soon because while the likely Republican candidates are dithering Barack Obama has begun his re-election campaign with the goal of raising $1 billion. (And this after he publicly rebuked the Supreme Court in his State of the Union address for their Citzens United ruling because it would allow big money to flow into the campaigns.)

If Mitt Romney and Donald Trump are the best the Republicans have to offer we will be watching Barack Obama being sworn in for a second term.

Correction: The WSJ/NBC poll is a national poll, not a New Hampshire poll. Somehow I misread the article. It would appear that the WSJ/NBC poll and the New Hampshire poll mirror each other closely in regards to Romney and Trump but the other candidates vary nationally when compared to the New Hampshire results. My sincere apology for the mistake.

Ya know, with the weak offerings that seem to be surfacing from the GOP already, Trump is looking better all the time..

Will America snatch defeat from the jaws of victory? Obama is on the ropes and these guys are the contenders?

Trump is a joke. I predict once the heat finds its way into his personal life he’ll get angry and blow away like dust. I certainly hope this country can produce a better candidate than he has. How many times has he gone bankrupt?

I think that this is probably a publicity stunt for his television show. I don’t think that he is serious about running for president.

I don’t think Trump doesn’t anything that won’t make him more famous and rich.

Donald Trump has one concern and only one concern — Donald Trump. His ego is so enormous that I’m certain he would find the White House a quaint place to live but really rather cramped. You guys CANNOT get serious about this man. There has to be a GOP candidate out there with some substance. Please keep looking!

I agree with everything you wrote. I think that the only reason Trump is doing this is for promotion of his show, I don’t think he is serious. As I wrote in my post: If Romney and Trump are the best the Republicans can do, Barack Obama will be re-elected. I hope that a candidate with substance emerges but I have my doubts. If the choice came down to Trump or Romney in the primary I would vote for Trump just to voice my displeasure with the Republicans, but I WILL vote third party this time around if we do not field a real Republican candidate and I don’t even care any more if that means Barack Obama will het re-elected.

The MSM is in a fix. They like the guy. If he pulls off the Coup about the birth certificate it would be awesome!! Right now, they are fixated on that. What a sad pack of cadidates we have.

The MSM likes this guy for the same reason they liked John McCain, he is not the best candidate. Unfortunately there are no good candidates as of yet. We are so screwed!
