As the crisis in Yemen deepens Barack Obama remains silent
After dithering for several weeks Barack Obama finally made the decision to intervene in Libya’s civil war; after days of listening to varying reports on why the United States had joined the battle against Libya Barack Obama finally gave a speech in which he tried to explain to the American people why the United States had become involved in the action against Libya.
In an attempt to justify military strikes against Libya Barack Obama had this to say while laying out the Obama Doctrine:
We knew that if we waited, if we waited one more day, Benghazi, a city nearly the size of Charlotte, could suffer a massacre that would have reverberated across the region and stained the conscience of the world.”
“But when our interests and values are at stake, we have a responsibility to act,” said Obama. “That’s what happened in Libya over the course of these last six weeks”
He also said this in defense of his decision to interfere in Libya:
Here’s why this matters to us: left unchecked, we have every reason to believe that Qadhafi would commit atrocities against his people. Many thousands could die. A humanitarian crisis could ensue
So to sum up Barack Obama’s decision on Libya: Qadhafi was committing atrocities against his own people which would lead to a humanitarian crisis in which thousands could die and to sit idly by and watch this happen would be a stain on the conscience of the world because the United States has a responsibility to the world to act when our values are at stake. That sounds quite a bit like nation building to me, which is something that Barack Obama ran against in 2008.
But let us take at face value Barack Obama’s excuse for his decision to bomb Libya; if the notion that the United States was bound to act as the conscience of the world and attack other nations when our values are under attack then wouldn’t the Obama Doctrine apply to the situation in Yemen?
It is now being reported that the Yemen crisis is deepening; Yemen–much like Libya–is engaged in a civil war and today President Ali Abdullah Saleh had the military fire on a crowd of protesters killing dozens of people. Yet Barack Obama remains strangely quiet on this issue. Doesn’t this action by Saleh mean that he has committed atrocities against his own people? And doesn’t this constitute a humanitarian crisis? Isn’t this a stain on the conscience of the world and aren’t American values under attack here?
How is this any different than the situation in Libya? This leads me to believe that there is an ulterior motive behind Barack Obama’s decision to bomb Libya, but what is it? We know that the French went to the United Nations about Libya because they were interested in protecting their oil supply and we know that the United Nations authorized this attack after being petitioned by the French. We also know that Barack Obama is beholden to the United Nations and considers it to be of higher authority than the country in which he decided he wanted to lead. But is this enough to convince Barack Obama to bomb a sovereign nation and begin nation building by interfering in a civil war?
I don’t think so, I think there is more to this decision than we are being led to believe. I don’t know what the answer is, but one thing is for sure; Barack Obama led the United States to war with Libya under false pretences. Barack Obama is lying to the American people as to why he authorized the bombing in Libya for if his excuse were true we would be helping the rebels in Yemen, Syria, and the Ivory Coast and yet these civil wars are being ignored, much as the democracy movement in Iran was ignored by the Obama regime.
What is the real reason why we are bombing Libya, we deserve to know the truth.

I don’t know, Steve. Maybe he has filled his quota for this year. I’m sure he has his reasons; but Mr. Transparency is not going to tell us the truth. That would ruin his perfect record of never having told the truth about anything.

Gee why would he back something that is tough? Remember, he didn’t comment on Mubarak until he was pretty much done already… then he can take credit for the Unicorn Dust he thinks they’ll make there.

Your last paragraph summed up my thoughts. I can only think it was a ploy to raise oil prices-and it worked. I’m just guessing, but other than that, there seems to no rhyme or reason for Libya.

Remember just a few short weeks ago when Lara Logan was raped in Cairo by men yelling Jew-Jew by so called freedom protesters in Egypt? Where was the outrage by Democrats or leftist groups in general. And why do we have Leftists/Socialist/Labor groups here cheering them on. Among them is Code Pink who has gone from annoying antiwar protestors to Middle East agitators. Why? A new “Freedom Flotilla ” is scheduled to depart from ports all around Europe this summer. Something is afoot. And Obama is in the middle of it.

I posted about this in my blog. Obama only went into Libya because it was politically expedient. He’s not going into Yemen because not many people seem to care. He does not have a consistent foreign policy other than respond to the uproars of the public. That’s a dangerous view.

Actually any Dem or GOP policy which doesn’t significantly and rapidly reduce the US presence and meddling in the Middle East is dangerous.

Obama is starting war in Libya because eventually it will lead to war in our own country,thereby creating an unsafe environment and implementing the so-called Patriot Act,he will basically lock down America…he wants to do this to postpone or terminate the 2012 presidential election because he does not want to take any chance of losing his great job as dictator. Well anyway,that’s an opinion.
