Solargate: Congressional Republicans subpoena Barack Obama over Solyndra loan

November 3, 2011

The first stimulus/green initiative scandal to come to light was Solyndra but it wasn’t the last as we soon learned about the SunPower, LightSquared, Fisker, and Beacon Power scandals. All of these scandals involve stimulus money sent to dubious companies which are owned by or invested in by major Democrat supporters.

The first of these scandals–Solyndra–is the largest with over $500 million of taxpayer money lost and has become the target of a congressional investigation partly because the Obama regime rewrote the stimulus rules in order to protect Democrat donors and investors in the company while ignoring the taxpayers who are on the hook for the lost money.

Naturally when the investigation into Solyndra was first initiated the Congress requested documents from the Obama regime related to the scandal but–as is the case in the Gunrunner, Fast and Furious, Castaway, Gangwalker, and Grenadewalker scandals–the Obama regime has been less than forthcoming with the documents. In other words, the Obama regime has been stonewalling the investigation by refusing to release the documents and it can be easily surmised that the Obama regime is trying to hide something.

Because of the Obama regime’s unwillingness to cooperate with the investigation the Congress was left with no other option but to subpoena the White House and Barack Obama for documents related to the scandal, and today they did just that.

By a 14-9 party-line vote the Energy and Commerce Committee’s investigative subcommittee authorized issuing a subpoena for any White House documents related to Solyndra, which received renewable energy loan guarantees under President Obama’s stimulus program. The request for documents could include details of the president’s own travel and

We simply cannot allow the executive branch at its highest levels to pick and choose what they will produce, or whether they will produce anything at all,” said Rep. Cliff Stearns, the Florida Republican who runs the investigative panel.

As I stated above, the Obama regime rewrote the stimulus rules in order to protect Solyndra investors who just happen to be major Democrat donors and one has to wonder what the Democrats in general, and Barack Obama specifically, gained for this dubious manuever. It is not much of a leap to think that it was quite possible that some of this money may have been filtered back into the coffers of Democrats’ reelection campaigns. A little quid pro quo so to speak.

If the Obama regime and the Democrats have nothing to hide they should welcome the investigation as a chance to clear their names, but to this point they appear to have something to hide. Needless to say, Democrats are upset about this subpoena and are calling a subpoena of the White House  “unprecedented.” The Democrats may just be right about this; this may be unprecedented but it is only because of the possibility that the depth of this regime’s corruption is unprecedented as well.

How long before we hear EXECUTIVE PRIVILEGE? That’s code for claiming the fifth amendment. We can’t have the President incriminating himself now can we? 🙂

Well, if they don’t like the President being subpoenaed, then they should have told him to stop being so sneaky about pushing all this stuff thru. When you do things legally and upfront, I don’t think this would even be an issue. However, we have not seen that happen here, SO, we will have to subpoena him to see what he knows. What a pretty sorry state of affairs we have here. Transparency, indeed!!!

So I just read in the Washington Examiner that the White House has REJECTED the subpoena, with obama’s lawyer saying that it was just partisan politics. How can they REJECT a subpoena?! Yes, I know that they think they’re above the law, but I don’t see how this is a defensible position, regardless of which side of the aisle they’re on.
