Liberal Democrat Kirsten Powers unloads on the left for their hypocrisy in regards to Rush Limbaugh’s ‘slut’ comment
I am honestly trying to stay out of the media’s diversionary tactic which can most adequately be code named Operation Change the Subject–I have only written two post on the contraception issue–but they keep dragging me back in. It is my mantra that the veracity of the feigned outrage on any given subject by the left is directly proportional to how far to the left or right the defendant is; and that is never more evidenced in Barack Obama’s acceptance of a $1 million donation from Bill Maher, who has said things about conservative women which are equal to and in some cases even more offensive than Rush Limbaugh’s ‘slut’ comment.
So I was quite pleased to read that liberal Democrat strategist Kirsten Powers called out the left’s hypocrisy on this issue in this article. It is about time that somebody on the left admitted there was a double standard at play in the media and among the Democrats themselves, and it is about time that a liberal woman stood up against the onslaught that people like Michelle Malkin, Sarah Palin, and Laura Ingraham have taken over the last couple of years from members of the group of people who are supposed to be so tolerant of others.
Here is how Kirsten Powers begins her article:
Did you know there is a war on women?
Yes, it’s true. Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, Bill Maher, Matt Taibbi, and Ed Schultz have been waging it for years with their misogynist outbursts. There have been boycotts by people on the left who are outraged that these guys still have jobs. Oh, wait. Sorry, that never happened.
Boycotts are reserved for people on the right like Rush Limbaugh
She made it quite clear that she was not defending Rush Limbaugh, and stated that she believed a boycott of his sponsors was justified, but then questioned why there were no calls for boycotts of the people who sponsor the “swine on the left.” Who are the “swine” she is referring to?
During the 2008 election Ed Schultz said on his radio show that Sarah Palin set off a “bimbo alert.” He called Laura Ingraham a “right-wing slut.” (He later apologized.) He once even took to his blog to call yours truly a “bimbo” for the offense of quoting him accurately in a New York Post column.
Keith Olbermann has said that conservative commentator S.E. Cupp should have been aborted by her parents, apparently because he finds her having opinions offensive. He called Michelle Malkin a “mashed-up bag of meat with lipstick.” He found it newsworthy to discuss Carrie Prejean’s breasts on his MSNBC show. His solution for dealing with Hillary Clinton, who he thought should drop out of the presidential race, was to find “somebody who can take her into a room and only he comes out.” Olbermann now works for über-leftist and former Democratic vice president Al Gore at Current TV.
Left-wing darling Matt Taibbi wrote on his blog in 2009, “When I read [Malkin’s] stuff, I imagine her narrating her text, book-on-tape style, with a big, hairy set of balls in her mouth.” In a Rolling Stone article about Secretary of State Clinton, he referred to her “flabby arms.” When feminist writer Erica Jong criticized him for it, he responded by referring to Jong as an “800-year old sex novelist.” (Jong is almost 70, which apparently makes her an irrelevant human being.) In Taibbi’s profile of Congresswoman and presidential candidate Michele Bachmann he labeled her “batshit crazy.” (Oh, those “crazy” women with their hormones and all.)
But she didn’t stop there; she went on to call Bill Maher the “grand pooh-bah of media misogyny:”
Maher has called Palin a “dumb twat” and dropped the C-word in describing the former Alaska governor. He called Palin and Congresswoman Bachmann “boobs” and “two bimbos.” He said of the former vice-presidential candidate, “She is not a mean girl. She is a crazy girl with mean ideas.” He recently made a joke about Rick Santorum’s wife using a vibrator. Imagine now the same joke during the 2008 primary with Michelle Obama’s name in it, and tell me that he would still have a job
She really hit this one out of the park and exposed the double standard that is applied to conservatives by the media and many liberal Democrats. Barack Obama was supposedly so upset at the way Sandra Fluke was treated by Rush Limbaugh that he felt it was his personal responsibility to call her and console her, yet Bill Maher can call Sarah Palin a cunt and Barack Obama has no problem accepting a nice little $1 million campaign donation from this misogynist.
As I stated in my first paragraph; the veracity of the feigned outrage on any given subject by the left is directly proportional to how far to the left or right the defendant is, and Kirsten Powers did a wonderful job at exposing this truth.

Powers used to date Anthony Weiner so maybe her ‘slut’ schooling was more complete. She’s a smart person and appears to be waking up unlike Juan Williams.

Would you admit to dating Anthony Weiner? Well, not YOU, but you know what I am saying. As for Juan Williams, he is on FOX, but is still as liberal as ever, guess that is the “fair and balanced” part of the program.

I actually like Juan because he doesn’t seem to resort to these types of personal attacks, he debated the issues on their merits.

She not only talked about it on Fox News but wrote an article about it.
My point is Powers and Williams found parts of the Left distasteful but I think Powers is still in transition even if it’s only slightly closer to the Center.

It will be interesting to see if she continues to move toward the center. Perhaps the left is finally being exposed for who they are, and if so, maybe more women will start abandoning the left.

I don’t think she is waking up overall, but this is probably an issue that is close to her heart and so she decided to speak up. Williams is a liberal, but I like him anyway. He isn’t one of those who simply attacks the right, he gives his opinions and argues them on what he believes is their merits.

I’ve been loosely following her for a few years – she used to be on Redeye and she seems to have shifted at least on this issue. But it’s part of a wider picture.

True, William, they usually get their talking points given to them and that is said over and over on numerous channels. She at least has broken with the left on this subject, so I commend her on that. As for Juan Williams, I don’t agree with the majority of what he says, but he does say it with conviction and he is a somewhat likeable guy, unlike some of the very liberal talk show hosts. I think the whole point of what is being said has been blown out of proportion just to cover what is really needed to be discussed and once again the right is falling for it. We aren’t, but most are.

This must have really got under her skin and she finally couldn’t hold it in any longer. I would love to see more people on the left start to call out some of the vile attacks we have seen coming from their side.

Maybe her hanging out with some very articulate conservatives is rubbing off on her. This is exactly how we can change public opinion by presenting facts and not just talking points.

I completely agree with the sentiment though I’d argue that some of the examples don’t measure up to the vulgarity of Rush’s comments about Fluke. My wife’s strong view is that the slut comment was low but the prostitute comment and the video-taping comment were the ones that went wayyyyy over the line. The whole idea that “we” are paying for it and “we” want something in return was just vulgar. But the hypocrisy of the reaction from the left is undeniable.
Question for you: if Maher gave the money to an Obama Super Pac how is Obama supposed to respond when the Super Pac is supposedly an arms length organization over which he has no control. My sense is he can’t really do it publicly because of the implication of trying to influence a “private” organization. But you’d really think he could effectively do this behind the scenes right?

No, you are right, not all of the examples are worse than what Rush said. I was simply using them to point out how ofter the left has attacked conservative women on a personal level.
Technically Obama can’t have contact with the PAC, but he could come out and say he didn’t agree with them taking the money, try to distance himself from it while at the same time have people behind the scenes act as a go between. We know that all these candidates have some input with the PACs even if it is only indirectly.

Two posts about this Sandra Fluke nonsense is two more than she deserves… This was done as a diversionary tactic and nothing more, I haven’t made the FIRST post about it, and personally, I don’t care WHAT Limbaugh called her, he’s a BIG BOY and he can take the heat for it, or not, it’s his problem…
