United States soldiers may need search warrants to conduct night raids on the Taliban in Afghanistan in the future
After the horrific killing of 16 Afghan citizens by Staff Sergeant Robert Bales, and the outrage that followed, Barack Obama is trying to calm the situation down and smooth over the tension that has grown between he and Afghan President Hamid Karzai. Barack Obama is in negotiations with the Afghan leader and appears willing to cede some United States authority in Afghanistan to quell the anti-American violence in the country.
Here is one of the concessions Barack Obama has reportedly offered to Hamid Karzai:
The administration’s most significant proposed concession on night raids would subject the operations to advance review by Afghan judges, U.S. military officials said. One option under discussion in U.S.-Afghan talks would require warrants to be issued before operations get the green light
I know that the Obama regime calls our actions in Afghanistan an “overseas contingency operation” or some other nonsense like that, but this is still a war we are trying to fight, and here we have the president of the United States offering the enemy the opportunity to be forewarned before the United States engages in night operations against the Taliban or al Qaeda.
Never before in the history of warfare has a country willingly or knowingly provided advance notice of an operation designed at rounding up the enemy and Barack Obama is on the verge of doing just that. If the United States has credible intelligence that there is an al Qaeda or Taliban target in the region they will have to go to a judge and get a search warrant before moving in on the suspect if Barack Obama has his way and it is true what is being reported.
What could possibly go wrong here?
In a best case scenario everything would work according to plan, the United States would apply for and be awarded a search warrant, and the suspect would be apprehended. But there is always the possibility of a sympathetic judge tipping off the target thusly giving him the opportunity to escape, or in a worse case scenario, set a trap for the soldiers when they carry out the raid.
In the end this will not help to lessen the anti-American tension in Afghanistan–nothing less than a full withdrawal will be acceptable to most of the people in that country–all this does is make our troops in the region less safe, and put further restrictions on already overburdening Rules of Engagement.
If this is the way the United States is going to proceed in the prosecution of the war moving forward, then it is time to give Afghanistan what they want; get the hell out of there and let them fight it out themselves after we are gone.

We should have used the killing of bin Laden as a springboard to start removing troops, I don’t know why we are still there and what else we can be expected to do.
As for Patton, I am sure he would have quite a few words for what is going on right now, and I wish we had a general like Patton right about now to tell it like it is.

This is just more proof that our soldiers are just as much in harms way from the Obama regime as from the Taliban.
A raid where prior notice is given, can not be conducted successfully, or at all, especially when a corrupt government and tribal loyalties trump even the best laid plans.
The minute the warrant is applied for the tribal telegraph will warn the targets who will either flee or be waiting in ambush. Barack Obama, as is documented, has no real use for our military so why should he give a second thought to the safety of our troops unless there is a political consideration involved.
As I’ve said before Obama is incompetent in any way shape or form to be making decisions concerning our military – and before anyone starts the crap about “he” killed bin Laden, save your breath.
Everyone in D.C. knew he only gave the orders under pressure from his advisers who pointed out a “win – win” in that action with the upcoming election.

William, you know it has been said that Bin Laden had been dead for a number of years and this was just brought out about his kiiling when it was needed. What “can” we believe with this media anymore?

I wouldn’t be surprised if bin Laden had been dead for years and the news was delayed until Obama could use it politically. It is sad to think this way, but the fact is that Obama cannot be taken at his word on any issue.

I couldn’t agee more William! Obama is making a dangerous situation even more dangerous for out troops. They are doing all they can, and they are performing admirably under the circumstances, but they are being put in danger by our own leadership and I find it to be disgusting.

Yes, this shooting was a horrble incident, and while I am not condoning it, sometimes things like this hapen in war. Especially when our troops are being heavily restricted with the ROE, it was only a matter of time until something like this happened. But this does not mean you capitulate to the enemy, and if this is what is in store moving forward it is time to get the hell out of there.

Steve, now it has come out that Obama has given reparations of 50 thousand to the families of the dead and 11 thousand to the wounded. Has this ever been done before? What about the families of our fallen soldiers? Does the foreign country pay reparations to them? What do they get from Obama? I find this a bit troubling. Things happen in war, unless it is a “Politically Correct” war that is going on. This has gotten so stupid, I can’t even type any more about it….

I agree Jim, this was a horrible incident but things like this occasionally happen and you try and punish the person, but you cannot make it harder on the rest of the troops to do their job in the future because of one man’s actions.

And when the latest U.S. soldier was murdered by an Afghan soldier he was working with, it was only recently that we found out when actually it happened months ago.. This is terrible news for the families of our soldiers.

One of my commentators gave the answer to Afghanistan if we are to stay there to win.
Declare war.
Remove the rules of engagement.
Allow our troops to do what they are trained for.

Exactly! If we are going to stay there then we need to remove the ROE which are putting undue pressures on our soldiers, if we can’t give them permission to do their jobs then it is time to get out.

This proposed concession is unwise. First of all, the Afghan gov’t system has serious corruption, and that would include judges I am sure. The Taliban would get leaked info.
Second, if our soldiers have to get Afghan warrants, that would make them like regular police, or cops if you will, here in the States. Except, in Afghanistan. Which would make them more like Afghanistan’s rent-a-cops.

Spot on Linda, there is no doubt in my mind that the judges–in many cases–will tip off the targets before our troops can move in, this is a disasterous concession.

We’ve had good generals all the way: petraus, Mcchrystal, etc. it’s the commander in chief that fails here. He doesn’t follow the lead of our top military — he’s got his head in the clouds and his mind on reelection. The most dangerous people are the ones who don’t know what they don’t know. That makes Obama very dangerous indeed. War is hell and bad things happen, but I’m incensed that we are considering giving a “heads up” on night raids. The purpose of war is to win; either let our boys do the job, or bring them home. Anything else puts our men in danger.

I couldn’t agree more Cathy! This man is in over his head and is only thinking politically. Because of this our heros are in more danger than they should be and I think with the restictions in place it would be better to bring them home.

Consider: One plus one equals two – or does it? It is no secret that Obama has no use for the military. Every step he takes further diminishes morale and the military’s credibility.
It has been his contention all along that military “adventurism,” (his words) is a bump in the road to global peace.
As to great generals. We have had a number of great tactical generals but many at this point have become willing pawns of the administration. The most recent example is General Allen who bends over forward to the Afghans every time something doesn’t go according to plan.
The one general who had remained true, until forced to retire, was General Stanly McChrystal who made no bones about calling out Obama’s incompetence as a Commander in Chief.
As for the Secretary of Defense Porky Panetta, he is in my opinion a traitor. Sound harsh?
Consider last week before Congress he said military action on the part of the U.S. should be subject to the direction of the UN’s Security Council and or NATO – Congress, in his own words is “irrelevant….WM

I say it’s time to pull out of all of those countries and let them kill each other. We need to also stop sending them money because they all hate us anyway!

You are right, Rodney. Look at all the money these countries “demand” of us, that is pretty bold, if you ask me. AND, we send it to them.
