The Brady Campaign blames the NRA for Trayvon Martin’s death

April 17, 2012

From the moment that the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin story made national headlines the left has been attempting to use this story to pursue a political agenda. First this was labeled as a hate crime, the left looked at George Zimmerman’s name and assumed he was a white guy who “executed” Trayvon Martin because he was guilty of “walking while black in a gated community.” People like Democrat Representative Hank Johnson racially profiled George Zimmerman based solely on his name, but it turned out that Zimmerman is Hispanic so that line of attack fell by the wayside.

Next came the attack on stand your ground laws as we were told that these types of laws, which reaffirm and individual’s second amendment right, lead people to act as if the United States was the wild west and emboldened people to commit murder who otherwise wouldn’t have been carrying a sidearm. But with the news that Janet Napolitano actually signed a stand your ground bill into law in Arizona in 2006 the left doesn’t seem as willing to blame the shooting on this type of law anymore. Stand your ground laws can no longer be pinned solely on radical right wingers who cling to their bible and their guns so it was no longer advantageous for the left to make the claim these laws were at fault in the shooting of Trayvon Martin.

So with these two lines of attack dismissed it was time for the left to look for another culprit to lay the blame on in order to make some political hay out of a crisis they didn’t want to go to waste. If it wasn’t a hate crime, and if it wasn’t the stand your ground laws it had to be the gun’s fault, as Bill Crosby said.

And if the gun is to blame for Trayvon Martin’s death this can only lead to one logical conclusion by the leftists–the NRA is to blame for the killing, and so that is who the left is going to attack now that their other theories have been discredited.

Here is what the president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence recently had to say regarding Trayvon Martin’s killing:

Wayne LaPierre at the NRA Convention, in his feeble attempt to deflect the well-deserved blame for putting the gun in George Zimmerman’s hands, had the gall to complain about all the media attention on the Trayvon Martin tragedy

Arming dangerous people just to support a lobby that sells guns. That is shameful. It is immoral. It is almost criminal. That’s why we’re here in D.C., this week, to demand Congress make it abundantly clear whose vision they support – the NRA’s dark, paranoid vision of guns just about anywhere in just about anyone’s hands or our vision – an America where tragedies like ours and the 32 others that will occur today no longer happen

The gun did not kill Trayvon Martin, it was the instrument but George Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin. The only question is whether or not the shooting was justified or if Zimmerman killed Martin in cold blood. We do not know if Zimmerman was a dangerous man who shouldn’t have had a gun, as the Brady Campaign has claimed, and from all accounts he was a law abiding citizen up until that fateful night. But even if it is shown that Zimmerman was not a man who was responsible enough to carry a weapon that is no reason to attack the NRA or the millions of law abiding citizens who choose to carry a weapon for self defense.

If George Zimmerman is found guilty it is indictment on himself and himself alone–not the NRA or other responsible gun carrying Americans and it should be treated as such and it should not be used as a catalyst for coming after lawful gun carrying Americans in an attempt to pursue a political agenda.

The federal government can take solace in one fact; at least George Zimmerman didn’t purchase this weapon from the federal government in the Fast and Furious scandal, which supplied weapons to thousands of dangerous Hispanics (George Zimmerman is Hispanic after all) at the southern border and led to the deaths of more people than George Zimmerman is responsible for. He who lives in a glass house should not throw stones.

The “Brady” crowd are once again looking for attention. Like Jackson, Sharpton and others they will take advantage of any issue involving a gun whether it is relative to their argument against guns or not. They will never understand let alone prove that people kill people, intentionally of not. If all guns were banned then people would be knifing each other, runninbg over each other with their cars on purpose, (something not uncommon in our society), or just simply resorting to the good old Louisville Slugger.

If you’re going to ban guns then cars, baseball bats and knives and any other item capable of inflicting mortal harm need also be banned. But then that will only leave rocks – whats next?….WM

A rock fight? These people have been looking for any excuse to push their agenda and now they think they have found it and they are not going to let up until they acheive their goal.

Racism, Stand Your Ground, and now the NRA and guns in general according to the left are the cause of Martin’s death. Some would contend that one could just as easily point the finger at Trayvon’s family and life style but I’ll just wait for the truth to emerge. I’m just blessed to live in the south were our law-makers value the 2nd and past few laws restricting it. Many are probably unaware that some of the first restrictive guns laws were passed in the south shortly after the reconstruction period ended and were aimed at keeping firearms from the hands of the newly Freedman. Eventually those were repealed. The left will always use incidents such as Martin-Zimmerman to advance some kind of agenda. I’ve come to expect it over the years. After the President Kennedy shooting in Dallas they got a ban on mail order firearms. My first 22 Rifle was purchases from Sears and Roebuck via mail. That freedom was lost because of Lee Oswald (communist), but nevertheless the left got its way and the chipping away at the second continued. As the opponents of gun control chip away at the 2nd at some point we will no longer recognize it and at that time it will be just worthless words on paper.

So true Ron! The left will always use an isolated event to push their gun control legislation and this is the latest example.

There is a saying that goes something like this.

When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

That is something that seems to be beyond the comprehension of the anti-gun lobby. What are they going to do next, outlaw our fists?

LD, what is the percentage of deaths by guns in Chicago and Washington DC? Any idea? If they are “illegal” there, shouldn’t it be very, very low? I’m just saying.

I don’t know what the percentage is, but according to a quick Google search, gun deaths actually increased in Chicago, after the gun ban was enacted. So much for their “facts”.

If their theory was correct that would be the case Lou, but as Larry alluded to the left doesn’t care about the facts as long as they can push their agenda.

I think we all know that the crime rate is very high in both those cities. I was just trying to make a point that just because you say “no you can’t have guns here” that will not stop the illegal carry of them. Only the law abiding citizens are punished and then they can’t protect themselves. So much for “laws”, huh? LD, I was being cynical with what I was saying, not anything that you had posted, hope you didn’t take it wrong.

We knew this was coming, didn’t we? If the right to own a gun is dangerous because some people mis-use them, think how dangerous the right to vote is. I’d like to stop people from mis-using theeir right to vote; but not by taking their right away.

The left is always looking for an issue they can use for gun control, and we saw this after Gabby Giffords was shot as well. In a way it is kind of sick the way these people use a tragedy to promote their agenda.

It was thought back in February, 1981, that the bullet to the head left Jim Brady brain dead but alas he was merely transformed into a liberal.
