Gunrunner: New documents show the ATF allowed grenades to walk into Mexico

April 26, 2012

Back on September 9th of 2011 a story broke, which I wrote about here, that brought the Fast and Furious scandal to a new level–the ATF had allowed grenade parts to be smuggled into Mexico knowing full well that the grenades would be assembled in Mexico and used by the drug cartels. This story seemed to go unnoticed on the national level, and even seemed to disappear from Darrell Issa’s investigation to my disappointment. This was a huge story and yet nobody seemed to be covering it or investigating it.

Well, today that changed as the Department of Injustice finally released documents related to Grenaderunner to the Congress–and yes, they do appear to be as damning as one would think.

Jean Baptise Kingery was well known to the ATF–they began watching him in 2004 because he was trafficking weapons to Mexico and the ATF actually arrested him in 2010 because they found he might be smuggling grenade parts into Mexico but he was released. Sometime after his release the ATF got information that he had purchased more grenade parts online and the ATF intercepted the parts and marked them so that they could be traced. The ATF then allowed Kingery to receive the grenade parts and bring them into Mexico.

Four months later the ATF arrested Kingery again and once again he was allowed to walk even after smuggling the grenade parts into Mexico; the official ATF story for this is they were hoping he would lead them to the factory where he was assembling the grenades, but this story doesn’t hold water because the ATF knew they would lose track of the grenade parts and the ATF has no jurisdiction in Mexico in the first place.

As damning as this information is, it isn’t even the most insidious aspect to this story; the ATF didn’t even give a damn if the grenades were used as can be seen in this quote from an internal email:

Even in a post blast, as long as the safety lever is recovered we will be able to identify these tagged grenades

Think about that quote for a moment; the ATF was more concerned with tracking the grenades back to America than they were about the lives that would be lost if the grenades were used in a crime. How callous is that statement? How cold is that statement?

The ATF had all the evidence needed to put a weapons trafficker behind bars–and in fact they had him in custody twice–and yet they didn’t seem to want to move on this until AFTER the weapons were used in a crime and one can only conclude that interdicting weapons at the border and arresting weapons traffickers were not the main goals of this operation. One can easily conclude that there was another, more nefarious, goal here and that was to prove the 90% lie because the ultimate target of this sting operation was the law abiding American gun owners, and the Obama regime didn’t give a rat’s ass how many people had to die in order to achieve its radical goal.

I think most Americans are under the false impression that our government has our best interest at heart and they want to make sure we are safe. Would you agree? Why is it then that every time you turn around something is being done that punishes US (to keep us safe) and rewards the ones doing wrong? I am wondering why there were documents released on the grenades? There has to be a reason (and it can’t be to our benefit) or it would be swept under the rug like documents they don’t want us to know about. Think about that for a minute…what is their motive for letting that tidbit of information out? We are being fed only what they want to produce, correct? So, what purpose (to them) does this release produce? Maybe I am just tired, but seems like there is something not right with this and it isn’t even on a Friday…I am just saying.

I agree Lou, I think most people want to believe that our government is doing what is best for us. And I would like to think so as well, but nothing we learn about the Obama regime leads me to believe they have our best interests at heart.
As for why the DOJ would release this information, perhaps they couldn’t keep it hidden any longer, or perhaps this is the least damning of the documents they could have released, it is a good question and I don’t know the answer to it.

You would think they would have to report on this sooner or later but they certainly don’t seem to be in any hurry!

Did you look at my post where there were grenades found in the weapons confiscated in Arizona? http://josiahe.wordpress.com/2012/04/10/an-invasion-here-at-home-where-are-our-troops/

Josiahe, just looked at what you wrote and the massive amounts of pics that were posted. wow! The loaded clips, was what really jumped out at me. Guns without ammo are not much use. I am sorry to say, but bringing the troops home will not help unless they are allowed to actually protect the borders. I don’t see much chance of that happening, because the powers that be don’t want that happening. In a perfect world, yes, they would be for OUR protection, but we live in times where we have to send our sons and daughters around the world to protect our “questionable” interests. Stay safe! Thanks for the post.

The pictures really drive the point home on what is happening down there, it shows us that we really ar war on the border and nobody really wants to do anything about it.

Granades? What’s next; rocket launchers and drones? The ATF has a pretty good record of catch and release, don’t they? Maybe someone should tell them they are not fishing in catch and release area.

C on F, the problem is, who will tell them and have they listened to any of us up to now? I am beginning to believe that this is all a big game to this administration, no matter the lives lost!! It sickens me.

It really wouldn’t surprise me at this point if we found out rocket launchers were being sold as well.

I hope so! I know Issa has threatened to hold Holder in contempt a couole of times but backed down. Hopefully he has finally had enough.

I think it’s a fairly safe bet that the main thing the ATF was after was to implicate the 2nd Amendment. They seem to have a strong aversion to the fact that Americans are able to obtain and carry a weapon. Everything they have done with Fast and Furious seems to be aimed specifically at making us, and the 2nd, look bad.

Exaclty Larry! They had all the evidence they needed to detain these people and they let them go and the reason for this is they weren’t really the targets–we were.
