Does John Kerry still owe paid back taxes on his $7 million yacht?

May 29, 2012

You may remember this story from July of 2010: John Kerry bought a new $7 million yacht and in order to avoid paying $500,000 in taxes to the state of Massachusetts (which he represents in the Senate by the way) he decided to register and berth his new yacht in Rhode Island. I have no problem with a person trying to lessen his or her tax burden, and in fact I think everyone should be paying lower taxes, but the problem here is that John Kerry does not feel the same way about taxes.

John Kerry is one of the Washington elitist politicians who feel as if the rich don’t pay their fair share and has called for raising taxes on the rich. Naturally John Kerry supports the Buffet rule and has called for increased taxes to punish those evil rich people even though he has gone out of his way to dodge Massachusetts state taxes on his yacht. And the yacht isn’t the only example: when Massachusetts lowered the income tax rate several years ago the state left an option on its tax forms which allowed anyone who wanted to keep paying the higher rate to do so–John Kerry has never checked that box.

When the yacht controversy became an issue he could no longer dodge John Kerry agreed to cut a check to Massachusetts in the amount of $500,000 for the sales tax he had tried to avoid and the issue disappeared.

But according to this story the Nantucket tax collector’s office has no record as having received the money from John Kerry, yet his office states he paid it last December. Someone is lying here and I can not think of one reason why the tax collector would lie about this when contacted by the Boston Herald.

Well, when I make payments I have a paper trail, shouldn’t he also have one? Unless “the rich” have a different way of paying, I would assume the burden of proof would be on him having to prove he paid the taxes, right?

I would think there would be a paper trail, and yes the burden of truth should be on him. But it doesn’t seem like they care whether he paid or not, does it?

    Probably not.

Remember, our Treasury Secretary hadn’t paid his taxes when Obama hired him.

How could I forget about little TImmy!? It seems as if this is par for the course for elitist Democrats.

Let’s see. We got a politician claiming to be native American when she was not, we’ve got a politician claiming to be born in Kenya when he was not and, we got a politician claiming to have paid taxes when he apparently didn’t. What ever happened to integrity?

I guess it boils down to “who you know” and apparently we don’t know the right people to get out of paying taxes. See, we are a necessary evil that has to earn the money so they (administration) can spend it freely. If we would just get that thru our heads, they would be happy. They are trying as hard as they can to convince us of this.

We are simply the government’s ATM machine and we will keep giving as long as they need the money. That is how the government sees us.

1 Does John Kerry even own the boat?

2 Did Kerry actually say that the taxes were paid?

3 Did Kerry even actually promise to pay the taxes even if they weren’t owed?

By the way, according to the MA website, it is completely legal to own a boat out of state.

If you move it to mass within six months of owning it, THEN you have to pay sales tax. Otherwise, there is only a .05% excise tax ($35,000.00) per year.

At last check, the boat was owned by a PA. based LLC.
