Barack Obama asks people to give up their wedding gifts to support his reelection campaign

June 22, 2012

When I first read this story I laughed because I thought it was a joke but after going to Barack Obama’s reelection website I realized that it was no joke. Barack Obama is asking anyone who is about to celebrate a birthday or an anniversary as well as anyone who is to be married to ask people to donate to his campaign instead of buying them a gift.

Got a birthday, anniversary, or wedding coming up?

Let your friends know how important this election is to you—register with Obama 2012, and ask for a donation in lieu of a gift. It’s a great way to support the President on your big day. Plus, it’s a gift that we can all appreciate—and goes a lot further than a gravy bowl.

I find that last sentence to be quite telling indeed. I don’t know about you, but when my wife and I got married we were young and we didn’t have a lot of extra money. Wedding gifts, be it home furnishings or money, come in quite handy to those who are just getting started but the Obama website kind of pooh-poohs this thought with the gravy bowl comment. Barack Obama and his darling wife have been coddled throughout their lives and because of this they cannot relate to the importance of wedding gifts, even if it is just a gravy boat.  And in typical Obama arrogance he assumes he can spend the money better than the would-be gift giver.

I am one who has always felt that Barack Obama’s reelection was almost certain–especially with the Republicans running Obama-lite against him–and I believed that he would be very hard to beat in November, but now I have to wonder if I was overestimating his chances of victory in November. When I read that Barack Obama has stooped to the level of asking people to give up their gifts in support of his campaign I have to believe he has seen internal polling numbers which have him very worried about his reelection–this seems like the act of a very desperate man.

I think he must be in a world of hurt if he is asking people to do this. I think that his big donors might be not donating as much or switched sides??? This sounds to me very pathetic, but he is not beneath asking this.

I agree, he has to feel he is in trouble because he had to know how this move would look to people. It dosn’t get any lower than this.

I an left to wonder about the $3, who decided on that amount? Was there a survey done? Now, as to gifts, what price tag is put on Weddings, Birthdays or Anniversaries? Surely they have that figured out, as well. Laughing right with you, Jim. As I said, pathetic.

I heard Romney outraised him in May. He’s on track to pass Obama before November. Remember the “billion dollar” war chest that Obama was going to amass? Looks like they hit a bump in the road on the way to reelection.

This will allow Obama ro rail against SCOTUS for the “Citizens United” case and claim big money is coming from out of the country into Romney’s hand in an attempt to take what should have been rightfully his.

Easily impressed by someone such as he is, I consider him a “Flim Flam Man”. I was also considering, remember there was an article that a man had put on his tombstone something about voting for anyone but Obama? This has been awhile back, I can’t remember when, but I would say it is not beneath him to also ask for the donations to the DNC instead of flowers. Already there are special interest groups (MS, MD, Diabetes, etc) that get that money, why should he NOT cash in on it. He leaves no stone unturned when it comes to money and HE wants it. After all he is The Obama!

I just heard about that story the other day.
I am surprised Obama didn’t ask for funeral donations now that you mention it, after all, a donation will go further than those flowers will.

While I am at it, might as well bring up leaving all your estate to him, as well. Churchs do it so why should he not do it? This might be a bit over the top, but do we put anything past him, no matter how tacky it is?

Harrison, could it be that the American people have lowered their standards of what they expect to represent us? I know we have alot lower image overseas, guess we need to take that into account as well.

You guys need to get it straight – are we, or are we not, concerned about what others think of us?

America’s image overseas began to be tarnished during the regime of Richard Nixon, when it came out that our politicians abused the electorate. Plus we have a habit of doing our laundry in public, so they can see the things we do wrong – the same things they jail journalists for reporting.

The reality is, though, they’re green with envy. Egypt’s military just rewrote their Constitution because they didn’t have enough power. Our military has felt slighted by administrations in the past, but it has NEVER considered a coup, despite the fact that it certainly has the weaponry with which to accomplish it.

And 12 years ago, when the outcome of our election was in doubt for almost a month, and got thrown into SCOTUS, the military wasn’t patrolling the streets. Martial law hadn’t been declared. We went about our business as usual, secure in our confidence in our institutions.

Few nations in the world can claim that level of confidence, and despite what you may hear about other nations laughing at us, what they’re really hearing is envy.

Take good care and may God bless us all!

It’s a gravy boat, not bowl.

Here’s what I’m doing for the President’s re-election campaign: My daughter is getting married in September, and she just called, upset that her maid of honor isn’t spreading the word about the kind of shoes she wants them to wear. The thing is, though, their dresses are full-length, so the shoes will be hardly visible.

It’s already a shame, IMO, that the bridesmaids have to lay out the money for their uniforms, that they’ll never wear again. I think the wedding industry has such a racket going! But that’s neither here nor there. I’m telling my daughter to forget about bridesmaids’ shoes, they’re not going to be visible anyway. So she’s going to tell them just to wear some nice, silvery shoes they have in their closets. Then, since they saves a nice sum ($40? $50?) on shoes, they should send HALF that amount to the President’s re-election campaign.

As to foregoing wedding gifts in lieu of contributions to the campaign? Sorry, all that suggests to me is that there are some people on the President’s campaign team who need to be fired right away so they can go out and find themselves lives.

Long ago, I worked for a labor union, and one day we were going over slogans to put up on the wall of our quadrennial convention – a big deal, consisting of 5,000 or so delegates, another 2,000 others, etc. One of the proposed banners read “Your Union In Action.” My boss took one look and shot it down – he said “How long do you think it’ll take the opposition to turn it into “Your Union Inaction?” (We did, however, post a banner reading “We don’t hafta NAFTA!”)

My point is that every campaign needs someone looking at things from my boss’s perspective, to see how the opposition can manipulate and twist it. Whoever fills that role on the President’s team must be on vacation.

Take good care and may God bless us all!

Congrats on your daughter’s wedding, you must be excited and proud! I would suggest that she is right and her bridesmaids should buy the shoes she wants and not send the savings to the Obama campaign. :) Seriously though, I hope she and your family have a wonderful day.
I agree with you though that this came from someone working on Obama’s campaign and not from Obama himslef, but it does show us that he or the campaign is getting worried.

This has to be the most trifelent thing that I have ever heard in my entire life. To ask people to give you their wedding gifts. Not even a crackhead would stoop that low to ask people on there most important day of their lives to give you gifts that’s suppose to be for them to share throughout their lives. This is what you call “GRIMMEY” to the highest level.” Is this man on crack or what’

I would rather give George Costanza money for “The Human Fund”, than Obama for his campaign fund. At least I would know that my money was wasted on a non-existent charity, rather than a progressive/socialist/pro-gay marriage/pro-abortion, “Manchurian candidate”. Either way, my money would be totally wasted…
