Was the video of Mitt Romney’s “47% gaffe” selectively edited?

September 19, 2012

When Andrew Breitbart was supposedly caught editing a video of Shirley Sherrod which showed her to appear as a racist Media Matters and the mainstream media had a field day with the story. It was splashed all over the news as the media tried to bring down the man they feared posed the biggest threat to Barack Obama and the Democrats.

There has been a new story splashed all over the mainstream media during the last week–and no it isn’t the assassination of Chris Stevens in Libya, although that should be the story–and it is the gaffe that Mitt Romney made about 47% of the people in the nation being dependent on the government and people who will not be voting for him in November no matter what happens.

The media is using a video clip from a private campaign fundraiser where he was among friends and unaware he was being recorded as proof that Mitt Romney doesn’t care about the poor and only cares about the rich.

But there one problem with the video, as we just found out in this article. Mother Jones, the magazine which released the video in question, has admitted that the video is not complete and “two or three” minutes just happen to be missing.

According to the source, the recording device inadvertently turned off. The source noticed this quickly and turned it back one [sic]. The source estimates that one to two minutes, maybe less, of recording was missed.

What a fortunate coincidence that the video recorded just happened to accidentally shut off right when Romney finished the clip which has made the news for the last week!

Mitt Romney has demanded that Mother Jones release the entire video and they have promised to do so, but those two to three minutes are lost forever so what good will it do at this point?

With the amount of attention that the video has received over the least week I would expect the mainstream media to report about the missing minutes in the interest of being fair and in the interest of doing their jobs. But of course the media isn’t fair, and the media actually thinks its job is helping Barack Obama get reelected so I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for them to mention the fact that a crucial part of the video is missing. They will not bring light to this the way they did when Shirley Sherrod came under attack.

Edited or not, in today’s America the truth shall not set you free but, rather, it will make you the cannon fodder for the left’s war on America as well as put you in the crosshairs of the elitist right the likes of Bill Krystal et al.

This was my comment at Western Hero earlier today on a similar post:

“The media has intentionally used this private conversation to imply that Romney doesn’t “care” about this 47% of our population, which is blatantly untrue. He was only stating what he believes to be a pragmatic truth.

That this private conversation is news at all, could only come from the media asking if Romney is right or has he over stated the case. I believe he has over stated the case. That 47% includes a lot of people who have lost their jobs theough no fault of their own and have had to accept some government assistance; but they don’t like it. They want a job. They want to be able to be self sufficient. Some of this group will still be blaming Bush. But, some will see that Obama’s policies are not working. We don’t know what the real number is of who will vote for Obama. I would bet it is several percentage points less than 47.”

There are also many disabled people, including veterans, they recieve government assistance and may or may not spport Obama. so, maybe Romney was over stating his case and maybe there are people in the 47% that he should be trying to attract to his side. But, there was absplutely nothing contraversial about what he said, in my opinion. He was only beoing pragmatic about what he thought to be true..

The media is grasping for anything that might take hold. That shows how desperate they are now. Let their man (term used lightly) keep going on talk shows and rubbing elbows with Hollywood and golfing…at some point there are going to be people that have the lightbulb go off over their head. He is an empty shell of a man, he has no talent (even his teleprompter reading is going downhill) he has been held up and told how wonderful he is, he is NOT. He is just an average human being with no specific talent that has been pushed thru because of affirmative action, there I said it. Was there anyone that was more qualified to be president when he was running? You bet, but his “people” got the goods on them and they were gone. Now we have been stuck with this sham of a man and we are suffering because of it. I have probably said enough. I think we are all getting irritated the more we hear how wonderful he is.

I couldn’t agree more Lou, this man got where he is because of affirmative action and to hear Michelle claim she was never proud of her country until Barack became a legitimate contender after the country gave both her and Obama everything they have is maddening.

I agree Jim, the biggest problem with the Romney quote is that he lumped legitimate people who are collecting government benefits either because they truly are disabled or cannot find a job in Obama’s economy in with those who are gaming the system and only interested in a free ride. This is a mistake because there are many who blame Obama for the economy and their plight and are ready to vote for someone else and yet Romney is prepared to count them as Obama votes.

    If I may
was the video edited? Yes it was…goes it matter?…no it does not.
    Welcome to Jesus’s world.
He was treated the same way and look what happened to Him.
So what matters? The truth. and if America has moved that far away from “truth” or the love for the Truth then America has fallen and all the Nobel blood spilled has not prevented man from ruining his own bed.
In november we will see if America has pulled the lever for the last time or if America surprises Herself when on November 7 we all wake up to find the whole of Her glorious parts are RED.

And of course, Obama cannot recall what the debt was he inherited when questioned. He assures us as well that it is no big deal right now. Kool-aid for all.

If that’s the worst thing they can find about Romney, then they don’t have anything.

I can’t really find fault and I agree. I will say, though, that Romney should have kept these numbers and stats to himself – and shouldn’t have admitted writing off any voters. At least not in front of anybody but family or his trusted advisers. He should know Liberals put a target on his back.

The big question is how did a mole get inside and why wasn’t Romney aware of it.

Sorry for not being around to comment as much this week. I have been so busy at work and with things around the house, I have barely had time to write, much less comment on other blogs.

At any rate, you are right. There isn’t a chance we will see the media reporting about the missing sections of the video. Harrison, from Capitol Commentary, has been driving this point home for months. The media bias is real and it is alive and well in this campaign. We need to find a way to combat it, but as Sherman Broder wrote in his first post for Political Realities, never underestimate the advantage that comes with having a sympathetic media.

No worries Larry, I am in the same boat as you. I have steady overtime for the first time in three years so I haven’t been able to comment as often as I would like to on the blogs but I am trying.
The media no longer hides their bias and that is what is most different about this election cycle. They used to pretend they were none bias but now they simply don’t care and I guess it is because they are getting so desperate.
