Barack Obama defeats Mitt Romney

November 7, 2012

Last night Barack Obama won an electoral landslide by capturing over 300 votes, while Republicans were able to hold onto the House because the popular vote remained close all night.

At this time it feels as if the battle for the future direction of the country is over because we have already seen that Barack Obama is more than willing to use the Executive Order to pass his agenda when he can’t accomplish it legislatively and perhaps the biggest, and mostly overlooked, aspect of last night results were the effect it will have on the Supreme Court.

Barack Obama will probably have two Supreme Court nominations and possibly three; the Democrats will have the chance to implement a very liberal agenda through the judicial branch for years to come and there is nothing that we can now do about it, this was our last best hope and we failed.

So now we are all looking for answers, trying to figure out how this happened. There will be some who seek the quick answers–voter fraud, Chris Christie, media bias, Todd Akin, or Mitt Romney himself–and while these issues probably had an impact on the election they did not decide the election, this election was decided some time ago.

The truth is a bitter pill to swallow but the problem goes much deeper than the issues I mentioned above.

The truth is there has been a demographic and cultural shift in this country and to ignore it is to doom ourselves to future failures if we haven’t already.

First the demographic shift: Barack Obama ran what could be considered one of the most divisive campaigns in recent memory, purposely dividing Americans between rich and poor, black and white, gay and straight, and male and female  while calling for people to vote for revenge.

While it is not unusual for a candidate to target specific demographics it is unusual for a sitting president to target groups of people and call for revenge against them for not voting the right way. It is going to be hard to repair this damage if it can be done at all, and I am not sure Barack Obama wants a healed nation because I think he feels a divided nation is easier for him to take advantage of.

The Republicans underestimated exactly how powerful this strategy was and  how successful it was going to be and now they are now facing an uphill battle if they ever want to win these voters back because they ignored these groups for too long.

But that is not the most troubling aspect of last night’s election to me because with the proper messaging these voters could be won back once these groups saw everyone benefiting from conservative policies if this was the biggest concern, but it isn’t. The most troubling aspect is the cultural divide which now exists between conservatives and liberals.

The cultural shift I am referring to is the culture of government; it is in the way a majority of Americans now view our government and the role the government is supposed to play in our lives.

We conservatives believe the government should be smaller and less intrusive; we believe the constitution is a limiting document, it limits what the federal government can do. But liberals believe the constitution is an enabling document, one that grants the government powers.

Over the course of many, many years this cultural shift has been happening in this country, and it has now culminated in the reelection of the most far left politician to have ever inhabited the White House.

Our society no longer understands the founding concept of the United States and the majority of the people (around 60 million according to the election) now believe the government is here to  provide for us from cradle to grave, to give us what we need and to protect us from ourselves.

And that is what makes last night’s results so devastating to the future of the country; it was our last, best chance to begin turning around the devastating effects of a  bloated government about to implode under its own weight.

So how do we change this? That is a question that might not have an answer, but it appears as if it has to happen through education; teaching our children about the history of the United States and the founding documents and making them understand that people can do great things when the government isn’t holding them back.

The problem with that answer is that I would guess we simply do not have that kind of time so most likely the answer is going be a painful one; it is going  to take the total collapse of the system before people realize they have committed economic and political suicide.

And even then we don’t know what type of government would arise from the ashes, it makes you wonder what type of revenge Barack Obama had in mind…..

We are all still reeling from last night’s defeat but now is not the time to give up and now is not the time to take pity on ourselves and wonder what might have been. Now is not the time to look backwards and worry about what just happened, we can’t change that now, this is the time to fight on for the future until there is nothing left to fight for.

I am not willing to give up, are you?

You hit on one thing that’s a real problem going forward (pun intended) – the potential for obama to seat as many as 3 Supreme Court Justices – but there’s another one that I haven’t heard anyone talk about. There are now 3 or 4 “treaties” in various stages within the UN that, in my humble opinion, pose a serious threat to US sovereignty – 1) Small Arms Treaty, 2) Rio +20, 3) Law of the Sea Treaty, and 4) the treaty that would hand control of the internet over to the UN. I don’t recall what that last one is called and whether it’s actually a treaty or not, but the effect is the same regardless. Obama is probably the most liberal pres we’ve ever had, and he appears to be all-in for the UN. Since the Senate is still controlled by the Democrats (also all-in for the UN), what’s to stop them from ratifying any or all 4 of those treaties, in addition to any number of others? That truly frightens me, along w/ the potential to seat so many Justices. Thankfully down here in Texas we’re pretty well armed (understatement!) so the blue helmet sissies should think twice about showing themselves.

Yes, there are several treaties which will probably be ratified and it is scary indeed. It might not take too long for people to realize the error of their ways but now there is nothing we can do about it.

You are right about that now that I think about it, treaties must be ratified with a 2/3 majority.

Ok, so it’s been well over 30 years since my last civics class…completely forgot that it takes a 2/3 majority in the Senate. I can tell you that I’m breathing MUCH easier today. That said, I’m not too familiar w/ the make up of the Repubs in the Senate beyond our Texas delegation and a few of the Senators that you see on TV. If you know, can you comment on whether there are 14 Repubs in the Senate who might actually side w/ any of those UN treaties?

I know before this last election there was no chance of passage of treaties. But after thinking about it, who knows what workaround they will come up with. Now Reid is going to change the rules, though it should not effect the
Law. I am trying to find out who is up in 2014 in the senate. That is our next chance.

There are many, many reasons for last night’s defeat and as for the consequences short term and long term no one can really predict. It was a disappointing evening. Like you Steve I fear America and Americans will have to learn the hard way—like a child touching fire to see if it really does burn. Elections almost always bring change some more than others. As a southerner I look back at the election of Lincoln as one that cost the lives of over 500,000 Americans both north and south, while others see that same election as a crowning victory. This will have to play out as it surely will. I wrote a short post early this morning despite by urge to just crawl back in bed. Passing it along if you choose to read—

That’s the sort of leaping to conclusions that started this divisiveness in the first place.

A majority of Americans now believe it is the role of the government to take care of us. Pay off student loans, forgive bad mortgages, provide healthcare and so on. It is what Obama ran on and it is what Americans voted for. No leap there, just watch the Julia video.

B, I refuse to even turn the TV on. I read here and a couple other blogs, but that is the extent of it. That so many SAW what Obama has done over the past years and could still vote for him just leaves me somewhat speechless. I can’t imagine if I had done all those things that anyone would want anything to do with me, so what is wrong here? I still lean towards voter fraud and stacking the deck, I think it was done on a massive scale and pulled off. That the Republicans are that quick to say, “oh well” and move on is what really pisses me off. I guess that I have no faith in them now and that pisses me off, as well. Other than Allen West demanding the confiscation of the machines and a recount, is ANYONE else even questioning the vote? I mean other than “the people”? Who the heck did we elect to Congress and where are their big boy pants? I know we cannot give up, or the country is finished, no thanks to that sorry lot we elected, with a few exceptions. I believe we are going to be hit with a vengence from here on out and it will be extremely hard on the ones that have an (R) behind their names. I know that life moves on and we fall back into just living it, but damn, it is going to be hard coping with what we are in store for and it didn’t have to be this way, it should NOT have been this way. I just have to call FOUL on this vote, but I am just one person.

I think you are right. Our system will have to collapse before people finally get it because the people who are working cannot continue to support those entitlements for those who are not and are collecting welfare. We cannot continue to support those who do not belong in our country in the way of hospitals, food stamps, our school system with overcrowing and teachers trying to teach citizens. etc. I am tired of hearing that we have to be more sympathic to the Hispanic population which is growing everyday. When you break our laws, complain you don’t have jobs and vote for a President who will give you whatever you want in the way of amnesty this is not right. We need to take a stand like Romney and not comprise our principals.

We have no friends in the schools or the media, and that is how people get their information these days. The America I grew up with is gone. The “Ask not what your government can do for you….” days are gone. We are now on the path of Europe.

    Steve,
As you know by now I consider myself a pragmatic pessimist. Last night my dream of everyone castigating me for not having hope were dashed upon the rocks of this avenger’s victory. As for what lies ahead on this country’s road to ruin nothing is unfathomable.
Start with academia, from Pre-K to University the liberal virus has been spreading since the 1960’s if not before. The untold billions- probably trillions- thrown at education are for the continued incubation of the virus. As we know money in the hands of the corrupt does not motivate students to achieve.
The moral breakdown of our society and culture does not lend itself to a conservative rehabilitation. We must have 150 cultures and languages that demand catering to. Although, a thug like Obama can convince them all they’re all his peeps.
    Shall we go on?
Those elites at the top of the Republican Party had no idea Axelrod’s stealth ground game even existed. And why do they continue clinging to the notion that hitting below the belt is not gentlemanly while their man is getting a terminal wedgie? All if us whether a welfare class dependent or an elite respect toughness and power and strength. Upwards of 60,000,000 voters didn’t give two shits about a perceived rich guy being a great husband, dad and humanitarian. Those traits would have been great supplements if the candidate would have spelled out in simple terms in multiple languages the damage done and the damage to come with Obama’s re-election; if he would have reminded some while educating others That they are out of work, about Benghazi, about our energy and fiscal crises in terms that even the great unwashed could understand. Who says our candidate has to preach to the choir which is what Romney seems to have done. It’s easy to Mondaymorning QB but after the dive in 2008 fivby McCain the light bulb should have turned on somewhere in the GOP hierarchy. I like so many others are pissed but not stall surprised.
Live free or die, America has chosen to die.

I think you described the dilemma very well, Steve. The hippy sub-culture of the sixties greww uo and went into teaching, jourbalism and Hollywood. In other words they gradually took over the elements that control our culture. Sadly, we have neither the time or the dedication to reverse that process. I fear we are in for some very hard times ahead. The silent majority let this happen. A not so silent majority is going to have to fix it when it all falls down. Today was a day of lourning. Tomorrow i come back swinging. Don’t know no other way.

Jim, there are alot of us from the 60’s that actually grew up and became productive. I have (had) 2 older brothers, one is 67 the other would have been 62 and I am 58. They are (were) liberals to the core, I am NOT. What happened to me? I cannot explain how I turned out being conservative and them not. So, we have different beliefs and grew up in the same household.Guess I just took a different path than they did. My older brother told me to go ahead and vote, he would just cancel me out, of course I told him the same back and he just stood there and looked at me. Was it shock or that I talked back to my big brother, who knows, maybe it made him aware not everyone is like him and we do have other beliefs. I can hope that. But, for now, we stay on speaking terms and I tell him just to not cross that political line with me or HE will be getting an “educated earfull, I don’t think he wants that.

If they can question the ballot counting in Arizona WHY can’t we question the ballot counting that continues in our nation today, many military votes have been deliberately delayed. Since there was a huge blackout that occurred in several states during the storm, HOW could the ballots have been counted so quickly?? Arizona is still counting theirs and have 10 days for final results. I know we’ve been scammed by this admin. over and over. Since they’ve lied about fast and furious, & benghazi, they’ll lie about anything. The difference in 2012 us that we have a man seemingly intent on shreading our constitution, fragmenting our military, possible nationalizing corporate America, especially oil, gas, coal and the utility companies. Let’s not forget his deference to the Russians and Chicoms who are well aware of his non-belligerence and pacifist leanings; not forgetting his snubbing and disdain for all that is Israeli. Other than Jimmy Carter’s half hearted attempts at doing stupid things, who can name one Democrat president after FDR who was on a quest to destroy our capability economy and way if life? We should expect scorched earth take no prisoner policies to soon rear their ugly heads, kinda’ like his re-election campaign. I have had a day to think things over and have come to the conclussion that the “once useful idiots” that Obama had in his back pocket will now become not so useful. All he needed was this one more vote from them and we may never get him out of office if he puts thru the EO for such a thing. He may cease to give them the free things they expect and what will they do about it? He really doesn’t need them anymore. Am I totally off base on this? Will he have any use for the unions that spent big bucks to get him back in? How about the womens groups? Maybe we need to stop buying union made items and just support good old American made mom and pop items. I feel the unions were directly involved in the coverup as was the media. Now there is a group I would like to see taken down, the media. They have covered so much up, or just left it out, or did their spin that they were not honest in what they printed. Aren’t they equally responsible with this outcome?
I also know a little bit, well more than that, about Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), have had training to talk people down from bad situations they have been involved in. We apply the same tactics as with dying, the DABDA, Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance. We are all probably at different levels of this, I am in the Anger stage at the moment, might skip right thru the Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance and just stay Angry, who knows .I know that I will never Accept being controlled to the extent that this administration is going to try to do. They have done it slowly and “for our own good” and there are those that feel all warm and fuzzy that our Government cares so much that they will take good care of us. I don’t want or need their help to know what I need to do and how I do it. So, Angry is probably going to be sticking around for the unforseen future for me, at least a simmer if now a boil. I probably should stay away from anyone that voted this man (term REALLY used lightly now), as far as I am concerned they screwed my having any normal life in the forseeable future.
Now we see Obama and administration starting to implement stuff he had on the back burner until after the election. I wonder what his fan club is going to make of that and how they will justify it? I hope it affects them drastically. Probably said more than I wanted to say, but you get my point on where I stand. Take care!

This is a brilliant post, thank you for penning it. I was in shock at first. So angry. I could not find it in me to take the high road, I still can’t. In part I blame bad parents for raising ignorant youth. Many have failed to teach their children who they are and what they inherited in this great nation. And the cost. And so those children have played a major role in electing a communist president. I am at the end of my rope with liberals. I have no tolerance for them anymore. I see them as unamerican. I’m still struggling to cope with this, because it is as you say:

“And that is what makes last night’s results so devastating to the future of the country; it was our last, best chance to begin turning around the devastating effects of a bloated government about to implode under its own weight.”

I too have also worried that he would seat new Justice’s on the bench. The damage here is catastrophic. And only the ignorant and indifferent who voted for him cannot see it. One ray of light is that he may have undone himself. Hearings are being convened next week in both House and Senate, and this is not going away. Alot of legislators and some top retired brass are not going to let it go away. Thank god for them. Before this is through, the sad fact is the legacy of Chris Stevens, Tyrone Woods, Glen Doherty, and Sean Smith may be the salvation of our country. There is no way they could have known on that night. But their sacrafices were not in vain for those thirty people, and they may have spared millions for generations to come from being enslaved by a future communist government.

As you say, we have to keep going. We have to ride the wave, and the storm is not nearly over. In many ways it is just beginning.

Thank you for the very kind words, I really appreciate it. I think Benghazi might be the unwavering of the Obama regime so all is not lost yet, we must press on!

What I can’t figure out is the difference in attitude of F&F and Benghazi. Americans were killed in both, but for some reason Benghazi is alot stronger of a case against this administration. What are your thoughts on this? I am hoping that IF Benghazi takes hold, then F&F will be brought to the forefront again, as it should always have stayed. This administration is crooked and corrupt to the core and needs to be taken down. Are the hearings going to be enough and is there enough fight in some of Congress to persue this to the end, now? I wonder. How much control will the administration have on stopping these hearings?

Steve, the thanks goes to you for all of your hard work to keep this site going. I know I am not alone when I say it is much appreciated. It is great to be able to come here and discuss with others without being assaulted by Liberals nuts. And your updates and work here are equally vital. Lou, last I could gather on FF was Issa released a report a week ago Monday I believe. If I’m sharing something you already know, overlook it. My point is, Issa is fighting over both scandels, FF and Benghazi. He is not going to let either one go, thank goodness.

I had not heard that, so thanks. So much is not allowed to get out about F&F, that I wondered if Obama or Holder had put a block up somehow. I sure hope Issa keeps at it, but he is fighting an up hill battle. F&F should not be shoved under the table or into the back of the closet and with their new found strength, I don’t put much past this administration now. Remember VJ said that there would be hell to pay and I wonder who will be picking up that bill!!! We know that the House can still stop money flowing to Obamacare, ACORN,etc…will they? I don’t hold too much stock in Boehner standing firm, I think he needs to replaced. We also know that Harry Reid is trying to manipulate how a fillibuster could occur in the Senate and they did pick up a few Senate seats, so can the Republicans hold out in the Senate? I just don’t know the answers yet, will have to do more reading. We all best brush up on what is coming and see if we can find alternatives to deflect it.

I think it is bigger Lou because this was a terrorist attack and could not be totally ignored by the media, they will now try to trivialize it but we mustn’t let that happen.

This info is being posted for shits and giggles: my son’s band on tour inSouth America this week reports that the locals were celebrating Obama’s victiry in the streets of Rio. The band, all liberal Obama sycophants, except for my son, were given 30% discounts on their dinner that night when they revealed they were Obama supporters. I’m proud of my son for not attending the celebratory dinner.

Both my college educated sons are right wing conservatives. The apples didn’t fall far from the tree.

Your son stood up for what he believes in and I congratulate him for it, and I congratulate you as well for raising a son who is willing to stand up for what he believes in!

He has toured the world for the past six years and except for Japan and Eastern Europe liberalism is alive and well.
