Open thread for Sunday, December 2nd: The Taxman edition

December 2, 2012

Here is the open thread for Sunday, December 2nd: Feel free to leave links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues might come up during the course of the day. Nothing is off topic here.

With Barack Obama’s reelection we know that taxes are going to be raised, we just don’t know on whom and by how much at this point. So to celebrate everyone paying their fair share I give you a song called ‘The Taxman’ by a band you might have heard of before, The Beatles.

Let me tell you how it will be
There’s one for you, nineteen for me
‘Cause  I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman

Should five per cent appear too  small
Be thankful I don’t take it all
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah I’m the  taxman

If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street,
If you try to sit,  I’ll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I’ll tax the heat,
If you take a  walk, I’ll tax your feet.

Don’t ask me what I want it for
If you don’t  want to pay some more
‘Cause I’m the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman

Now  my advice for those who die
Declare the pennies on your eyes
‘Cause I’m  the taxman, yeah, I’m the taxman
And you’re working for no one but me.

  Enjoy:

Hey Steve, I may have something that makes the IRS look like amateurs: Sallie Mae!

SLM Corporation (commonly known as Sallie Mae; originally the Student Loan Marketing Association) is a publicly traded U.S.[1] corporation whose operations are originating, servicing, and collecting on student loans.

My stepdaughter attended Temple University 9/2005-5/2009 amassing student loan debt totaling $69,200(Sallie Mae alone, not including Stafford, AES or USDE loans) Interest varied from year one @3.75 for that first year only to 9.75 to 14.25 the other years. The current balance on these Sallie Mae loans is $95,449, after making minimal payments of $280 per month since 2005. If this isn’t usury then what is?

The colleges, hand in hand with the student loan mafia have possibly the greatest scam ever! This student received $10,000 tuition grants in each of her four years at Temple which works out to approximately $30,000 per year in tuition alone. Add on books, fees, meals and lodging and it’s a staggering number for a middle class student. The average student is incapable of paying off this massive debt before retirement.

The method used to create this incredible amount of loan interest is by daily compounding and then capitalizing the interest. Our friends at Bank of America And Wells Fargo have 48% interest in Sallie Mae so the fix is in.

So here is the kicker: This former student is earning $400 per week at one of New Jersey’s premier hospitals. She was able to beat out 30 other applicants for this vaunted position as a result of making friends with a surgeon at the country club where she works to augment her meager income. His sponsorship put her over the edge in this competition for this $400 per week position.

Now let’s flash back to CNBC where guest CEO’s along with the analysts are predicting a growing economy and lower unemployment while never mentioning the economic death march the country is on. After all the fiscal cliff is nothing more than a metaphor.

Great song, of course, but Americans knew Obama would want to raise their taxes and he got re-elected so I guess they wanted it?

Exactly Harrison, the American people had a choice to make and there was only one candidate who said he didn’t want to raise taxes and he lost. So this is what the American people voted for and this is what we are going to get.

Steve, given the names and what they are talking about this morning, I believe you have been spammed by some trolls. Odd stuff.

I’m getting hit very hard with spam over the last several days, my spam filter has been blocking literally hundreds of them but these ones linked to Facebook are getting through. I am deleting them when I can but I hope this doesn’t last too long.
