John Boehner strips conservative Republicans from committee positions
What do you do when you are a member of the establishment, elitist, political class Republicans who feel it is your birthright to remain in Washington and you watch a bunch of new conservatives come to power within the party and try to change the culture in Washington? Why, you punish them and hope to teach them a lesson of course. That lesson being you must go along to get along.
And that is precisely what John Boehner appears to have done when he removed conservative Republicans from committee positions. It goes without saying that this isn’t sitting well with the affected conservatives who do believe they are being punished for trying to change Washington and influence the establishment Republican leaders:
It is little wonder why Congress has a 16 percent approval rating: Americans send principled representatives to change Washington and get punished in return,” Huelskamp said in a Monday night statement. “The GOP leadership might think they have silenced conservatives, but removing me and others from key committees only confirms our conservative convictions. This is clearly a vindictive move, and a sure sign that the GOP Establishment cannot handle disagreement
This morning Congressman Schweikert learned there was a price to be paid for voting based on principle,” Semmel said in an email. “That price was the removal from the House Financial Services Committee. We are obviously disappointed that Leadership chose to take this course, but Rep. Schweikert remains committed to fighting for the conservative principles that brought him here.”
FreedomWorks president Matt Kibbe bashed the move, too, saying in a statement that “[t]his is a clear attempt on the part of Republican leadership to punish those in Washington who vote the way they promised their constituents they would – on principle – instead of mindlessly rubber-stamping trillion dollar deficits and the bankrupting of America. This is establishment thinking, circling the wagons around yes-men and punishing anyone that dares to take a stand for good public policy
A spokesman for John Boehner has denied that this was done in revenge and stated that these decisions are made on a “range of factors.” So what are those factors if this wasn’t done seeking retribution?
It is a secret! And the Republicans have no intention of making the criteria public, but Breitbart has learned that the establishment has keep a scorecard and ranked its members according to their vote tally.
We’ve heard from multiple sources that someone walked in with a list of votes and said if you didn’t reach a particular scorecard of what was considered the right vote – which by the way, in most cases, was not the conservative position – then [they said] ‘we’re going to have to remove you from the committee,’” Huelskamp said.
And of course it was all done behind closed doors so I don’t want to hear one more Republican leader bitch about Barack Obama conducting fiscal cliff negotiations behind closed doors (which Republican leadership has done as well) when they are guilty of the same behavior.
It is obvious to me where John Boehner’s loyalty lies and he is more interested in doing what he feels is best for his party than he is concerned about doing what is right for the country and this is something I have hammered the Democrats on for many years now.
John Boehner and the Republican leadership are no better than the Democrats because they look at everything through the political prism of doing what they feel is the best thing to ensure they are reelected and oft times this is contrary to what actually needs to be done for the good of the country.
What people like John Boehner need to remember is that the people he is punishing were sent to Washington by the will of the people and they serve the people, not the establishment which got us into this situation in the first place.

The only mandate that was recently given by the American people was the 2010 midterm onslaught the the tea party wreaked on the political elite, including both republicans and democrats. It would be a good idea for Washington to listen. Yes, Obama won, but that is because of popularity and his big get out the vote campaigns. That will never happen in midterm elections. This is just an example of Boehner giving in to the President once again. The republicans lost themselves when they elected H.W. Bush. A so called conservative, preaching about “New World Order.” I just hope they don’t cave in giving the President arbitrary, and sole power to raise the debt ceiling. We would forever be indebted to the office of the President, which has continuously gained too much power, most of which I consider is unconstitutional. Not to mention the proposal for the President to have sole power to raise the debt ceiling is unconstitutional in itself. Nowhere in Article 2 does it mention anything about revenue and the executive power in the same sentence.

They are ignoring the 2010 election and they are ignoring the fact they held onto the House with the help of Tea Party candidates again in 2012 and if the continue on this path they are only helping to usher in their demise.

I don’t know how to stop this madness in Washington, short of a third party or term limits, both of which are very long shorts. The House leadership as well as the Senate is entrenched on both sides. Seniority is a curse that leads to corruption and an abuse of power.

I agree Ron, a third party is what is needed at this point but it isn’t going to happen and the two parties we have will make sure it never does.

John “the boner” Bohner is tiday’s Marshall Petsin. He has capitulated and will do whatever it takes for self preservation. Just as Bush sold us down the river by spending like a drunken sailor and doing nothing about our open borders contrary to his campaign promises so has Bohner done what traitors to a cause do, sell out those who trusted them.

Itt’s worse than that with ALlen West, the Republicans purposely redistricted him into a more liberal district because they have wanted him gone for awhile so there in no way they were going to help him fight his election defeat.

The only thing I can think of that will solve this problem is term limits. They carry their own problems with them, but allowing leadership to become so entrenched and doing their own thing is not working for us.

You could be right about this Larry, i was always opposed to term limits because the founders thought the people should judge when it was time for somebody to go but I am beginning to change my mind on this.

Larry has a point about the term limits, it is sounding better and better.. I also think they should NOT get insurance and a pension for life. No wonder they don’t care what is pushed thru for us little people, they never have to suffer that same fate.

Yes, it used to be called public service for a reason; politicians actually had to sacrifice to serve the people, now it is a career move.
