Momentum to unseat John Boehner as Speaker of the House gains momentum, will Paul Ryan be his replacement?
It appears as if the movement to unseat John Boehner as Speaker of the House is beginning to gain some momentum. Many of us have been unhappy with John Boehner for quite some time and have been hoping he would be replaced when the new Congress convened in January, but that didn’t appear likely despite his failed leadership and his being totally outmaneuvered by the Democrats for two years.
But then John Boehner finally flexed his muscles–unfortunately it was against fiscally conservative Republicans and not Democrats, showing that he really isn’t serious about solving the debt crisis–when he removed four Republicans from committee positions for failing to vote with the political class, establishment Republicans, and threatened to punish more if they didn’t fall in line and the movement against John Boehner began to grow.
And then came what might just be John Boehner’s coup de gras; his embarrassing failure to pass his fiscal cliff Plan B after vowing to the president he would have a bill to send to his desk. (Funny how the term ‘Plan B’ is so closely associated with abortion nowadays, because that is what this plan turned into.)
With his leadership skills now in doubt momentum is really starting to pick up and it is being reported here that fiscally conservative Republicans, and even some of the political class establishment Republicans, are passing around a plan to unseat the beleaguered House Speaker.
The first part of this plan would be a change in the voting rules to have the vote held by secret ballot because some Republicans are worried that if John Boehner held on to the Speakership they would be punished more severely than those Republicans whose committee positions were stripped for not going along to get along. It does appear that John Boehner can be tough when he wants to be, he is just afraid of Barack Obama.
Surely Republicans such as John Boehner could not oppose a secret ballot vote after condemning unions for not having a secret ballot vote, right?
In a 2009 op-ed Boehner himself wrote for U.S. News and World Report, the then House Minority Leader bashed unions for their failure to employ secret ballot elections to protect those voting.
Of course John Boehner is more concerned with saving his own ass, not protecting those who may vote against them if the ballot is secret, so I expect him to be hypocritical and oppose this attempt. We will have to see how this all plays out but for now it appears the movement is growing.
So if John Boehner is removed from the Speakership the obvious question is who will step up and replace him? The name being thrown around out there is non other than ex-vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan. Finally we would have a person in a position of leadership who actually takes the issue of our debt and deficit seriously–he may be the only one in the Congress who does.

Thank you, it is time for Boehner to go. The only think he has accomplished is splitting the Republican party by trying to get the Tea Party Republicans to fall in line with the political class establishment Republicans.

I wish I could believe there are enough votes to oust Boehner, but I don’t see it. Paul Ryan would make a great Speaker, I think. If it happened, it would go a long way toward my regaining some faith in the GOP.

It didn’t look promising but this Plan B fiasco is an embarrassment and it could help to peel away some votes from people who would have otherwise supported him.

Paul Ryan as Speaker of the House is an interesting idea. At least, he isn’t afraid of facing Obama down with the truth and he is able to back it up with the facts.

Truth? Really? Please LD. Name one thing Paul Ryan has ever said publicly that was 100% true. Nothing personal but Ryan is a fraud (actually openly) working for the 1% and every thing he has ever done was to help them, and not your family. EVERY Single Thing! If you don’t believe me, then name one thing Ryan ever supported that was better for your family than for billionaires if you can. If you happen to be a billionaire, I apologize, I would be wrong…..

Paul Ryan is the only person in the House who I think takes the deficit issue seriously, we can disagree about some of the things that were in his budget but at least he put a budget forth which is more than can be said for the rest of them. (Aside from Obama’s two “show” budgets which failed to get one vote.)

Well, I could point you to the face down he had with Obama over healthcare. He called Obama out for his lies about his healthcare plan, pointing out exactly where he was lying and showing how the math didn’t add up. But., you wouldn’t believe me if I told you. You seem to be up to your ears in the lies Obama has sold the American people.

I don’t know who else there is in the House who would make a better Speaker than Ryan, there really isn’t anyone there who is overly impressive. At least he takes the debt and deficit issue seriously.

Well, we know we need change. We tried that with the presidential vote and that did not work, so I don’t hold alot of faith this will either. They are playing games, problem is, it is with OUR lives. I hope they can take him out of there, he has proven he can not stand up to the Democrats, so it is time for him to go.

The Romneys of this world are the problem, not the solution. How Romney made his money by “extraction” is sickening in every single way. He hurt thousands if not millions of American families, stealing their pensions, and shipping their jobs to China for greater “profits” for his investors. He belongs in a soup line, not the White House. And you know it.

You are absolutely right Steve. Every single Republican is scared of getting primaried by someone even more radical. They all have to appeal the “the base” which we can all agree are not interested in progress of any kind, or passing legislation that will ACTUALLY fix our nation’s problems. It is like they are all trying to out crazy each other. All the time corporations are paying next to nothing taxes, and the wealth are paying 1/3 of what you and I pay.
Remember there is 50 trillion dollars of concentrated wealth opposing change of any kind. They want to make all of the money, but they don’t want to pay any of the bills. And the tea party appears to be working for them. They couldn’t even agree to tax people making a million dollars a year a tiny bit more.
We’re screwed.

I know some people here may respect Paul Ryan, and I feel sorry for them. Paul Ryan is one of the lead proponents of the Republican Myth. The myth is letting the rich, the powerful, and corporations rape American Citizens at will, and pay next to nothing in taxes while they are sucking all of the money out of our lives is somehow good for our nation’s future. The Ryan Budget is a framework to transfer more of what the poor, seniors, and the middle class has left to the wealthy. To give them less, tax them more, and give more handouts to the filthy rich hoarders and corporate tax avoiders.
What I just typed is 100% correct and beyond dispute. Paul Ryan is a maggot working for the top 1% and doesn’t give a damn about anything but power. Making seniors pay more for health care with his voucher nightmare, and then giving more tax breaks to the folks that pay a far lower rate in taxes than you or I pay. It is all I can do to keep from vomiting.
A few years back the wealthy paid 70% to 90% of their “earnings” in taxes. America was advancing, and the lives of the poor and middle class were improving steadily. More and more Americans were sharing the American Dream. The “effective” tax rate of the rich was around 50%, and now it is around 15%. Along came Reagan. He transferred the tax burden from the wealthy to the rest of us, and reversed the success of the middle class by letting the wealthy off the hook. We have had 30 years of the poor and the middle class losing ground since Ronnie the Rapist sweet talked his way into our White House, and then proceeded to triple our nations national debt, while creating private sector jobs at a slower rate than even Jimmie Carter. You will never say a kind word about Reagan again once exposed to the truth about what he did to destroy our nation’s economic health.
Anyone that is serious about our deficit should be talking about the fact that the wealthy and corporations make almost all of the money in America, and pay a far lower share in taxes than at any time since Eisenhower. It’s like Ryan fans want to pretend it isn’t true, and letting billionaires compound their wealth with lower taxes and then move their money to the Cayman Islands is somehow going to make America stronger. I am still trying to keep from hurling.
You may not agree with what I just typed, but you all know deep down inside, every word of it is true, and can be backed up easily. I won’t provide links because 3 seconds on Google could prove every single statement I just made. Now you can either believe me, or you can believe Fox Lies, Rush, and Glenn Beck. It’s up to you. Steve, he cut payments to corporations to provide Medicare Advantage, and put the money into actually providing care without the middle man. Not one penny paid for care for seniors was cut. I am assuming you simply didn’t understand this.

Since you are so convinced you are right, you probably will not be interested in a link to a post I wrote back in September. For all of his rhetoric against Paul Ryan for wanting to change some things in Medicare, vouchers being one of them, Obama is the one who is actually allowing states to do that. And what’s more, he isn’t giving seniors a choice, automatically enrolling them and only allowing them to opt out as an afterthought.

I see “Anonymous” claims 100% of the truth. Imagine, a mere mortal being able to be !00% right. I think you should only claim 99% of the truth, keeping in step with the Anonymous mantra.
Anonymous is obsessed with destroying the rich, while ignoring the 500% increase in transfer payments the government has given to the “entitled” class in just the last 10 years. We hear this spiel from the left all the time. From Obama, to the left controlled MSM, to the universities, to the schools this is what we are force-fed every day.
Why? Because we don’t have a national spokesperson for our side able to overcome the distortions from the left! That is why we need the discussion about Boehner. I have no idea how he works behind the scenes, but he has no ability to lead the national fight against big government, high taxes, and socialism. For that reason alone, I think Boehner needs to go. For every outrageous and false statement the “Anonymous’s” make, we need a leader to stand up against them. The American people voted against making Democrats the majority in the House.
Let’s DO SOMETHING with that majority!

The Heritage Foundation? Since our “defense” spending has tripled since the late 90’s maybe you are counting that.

Since over 90% of talk radio is right wing, it is hard to see how liberals own the MSM. Fox LIes, and CNN = Fox Lite. Really left wing. The MSM is only as liberal as the billionaires that own it.

Bruce, I don’t want to destroy the rich. I want to be rich. I do however understand it takes a country to make me rich, and I am willing to pay my fair share in taxes. Paying 3 times as much as a percentage of my income than the Romney’s of this world makes it harder for me to ever grow rich. You too. Think about it.
How about another distortion from the left. The Walton Heirs have more wealth than over 40% of Americans combined. How is this good for our country?

There are supposed to be “checks and balances”, and his “go along to get along” routine is no more than giving in to the demoncraps. We need someone who will not do that, who will stand for what we elected them for.

I agree, he has tried to stifle the more conservative Republicans instead of letting them do what the people sent them there to do and that is because in the end it doesn’t matter if they are Republicans or Democrats, they are all politicians.

I think the chances look better than they did a couple of days ago. It really says something that they think they need a secret ballot to unseat him because they fear retribution. I wish Boehner felt as strongly at opposing Obama as he does at opposing conservatives.
