Open thread for Sunday, December 30th: New commenting policy

December 30, 2012

This is the open thread for Sunday, December 30th; please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day.

I want to take this opportunity to announce a new commenting policy on America’s Watchtower; it isn’t actually a new policy but rather re-instituting the old policy. Until a few months ago posting anonymously was not allowed, but after a problem which wouldn’t allow some people to comment I changed the policy to allow anonymous comments. That problem has been rectified but I never changed the commenting policy back.

Recent weeks have seen an increase in traffic and with that increase has come several anonymous commenters which has made the blog confusing at times for people trying to keep up with the comments–myself included–and it has also made it easier for spam comments to make it through my spam filter; I have been trying to delete the spam as it comes up but it makes for quite a bit more work.

So, beginning on January 1st, 2013 America’s Watchtower will no longer allow anonymous comments, if you still wish to comment here all you have to do is create a name and provide an email address. I feel this is a fair policy and enough time has been given to anyone who wishes to post here. If anyone has problems commenting after the first of the year feel free to contact me by email.

I hope everyone as a happy New Year and here are the Red Hot Chili Peppers and some bagpipers performing auld lang syne, enjoy:

Apparently too many 48 percenters have too much free time and wander into our world to hassle us. Let us hope next year at this time we have something to cheer about. I am still working to find something from this year. :)

I hope we will Bunkerville but I am worried that 2013 is not going to be a good year, I’m trying to stay positive though.

I certainly understand about the anonymous comments. I do not allow them on my blog either.

As for spam, I was sick and tired of having to sort through hundreds of comments in my spam folder, just to make sure a legitimate comment wasn’t being marked as spam. That’s why I instituted the check box on Political Realities. It stops the spam comments in their tracks, without me having to sort through everything. I would suggest everyone with a blog do the same thing, as it makes managing the comments much easier and hassle free.

That was a good idea, Larry about the check box.

      • December 30, 2012 9:39 am

I thought it was. It is simple to do, but the spam bots that leave the spam comments can’t see it and can’t check it if they could see it. It has cut the spam comments on my blog down to almost zero.

    • December 30, 2012 3:49 pm

I’m in the same boat as you were Larry, sifting through hundreds of spam comments in order to make sure nothing got caught by mistake because it does happen. I don’t have any control over adding any type of spam box or captcha phrase or I would do so as well.

B, you are not the only one that is still looking for the good in 2012, it is very slim, at best. As for the music, Steve, you can’t beat the bag pipes, can you? As to the posting requirements, it has been a bit confusing with all the Anonymous posts. Hopefully this will clear that up and people will “own” what they are saying. Have a Happy New Year, all and we will hope for a brighter 2013 (after we remember to write 2013 on our checks instead of 2012).

Here’s to a happy New Year. I just got an official blog report and you have won the award for most comments this year! Congrats, wish there was a prize for you. :)

Really? Who would have thought! Guess I have been a “chatty cathy,” huh? I really dated myself on that comment.

      • December 30, 2012 8:39 pm

Yep, you were number one! I forgot to mention that yes, bagpipes are pretty damn cool. They had them when my son graduated high school a few years ago and they were awesome!

It sure is hard to be positive about the future. My hope for 2013 is that Americans will finally wake up and throw all of the bumbs out.

    • December 30, 2012 3:53 pm

I am trying to stay positive but it is hard, hopefully I am over-reacting.

I have been on a few other blogs the last couple of days, what I hear and see is this: there are alot of people that are using more than one name and IP address, but are the same people. This is not an isolated case here, they are spewing the filth about having to take control of our guns, so I imagine they are trolls sent out to spread the word. They are being called out for what they are, “shit disturbers”, plain and simple, just stirring up the “regulars” on the blogs and trying to pit them against each other….sound familiar?

    • December 30, 2012 8:45 pm

I thought I responded to this comment earlier Lou, is it possible my spam filter caught my own comment? I must have screwed it up, but what I thought I wrote was something like this: This is either an organized effort by the left or the result of an emboldened left after the election. They better enjoy it now because once all the Obamacare taxes and the other taxes they voted for hit and the economy further tanks they will no longer be so brazen.

One of your heroes I presume?

      • December 30, 2012 4:01 pm

The same Lindsey Graham that supports amnesty for illegals and the PATRIOT Act? The same Lindsey Graham that voted to confirm Sonia Sotomayor? Nope, no hero of mine.

And I appreciate it, every time you come here I earn a couple of pennies and, although it doesn’t amount to much, every cent counts in Obama’s economy.

I know the “conservatives” here are good honest Americans. Unfortunately they have been brainwashed into serving the top 1% while their families are being bled to death.

Please for the love of god read this book. Go to Amazon and read the reviews. Reality hits you hard bro.

I know most “conservatives” (who are by no measure conservative in any way) work tirelessly to help corporations and billionaires rape their very own families. They are attacking every institution that may threaten corporate power, and the hoarding of America’s wealth by a small number or people.

Liberals, and unions are “conservatives” enemy, and ALEC is their friend! All because of freedom, smaller guvvmint, and Jeezus I guess. Sick stuff if you ask me. The price of every thing they buy is going up at exactly the same rate as corporate profits, and they don’t understand the connection. They are expected to work till they are 90, and if they get sick, too bad. They will be replaced by some other American who will work for even less just to try to feed their own starving family.

Please for the love of god, spend the $14, buy the book, and get an understanding of why you are expected to pay all of our nations bills, so the wealthy don’t have to. Just remember. The wealthy have 30 trillion dollars in the tax havens, and you are lucky if you got a pot to piss in, or a job. One slip on a banana peel, or one hurricane, and you won’t even have your pot.

Please my friends. Wake the f up.

I ended up with congested lungs last night, so went to the Urgent Care center this morning. Of course I have bronchitis bordering on pnemonia,,,but that it not what I wanted to talk about, I think I will live. As I sat in a room FULL of people (walk-ins) after taking a number and waiting almost 2 hours, I was #22, I could hear as each was taken up to the window. It seems that they no longer will take Medicaid cards, so that means anyone that needs a non-emergency appt…such as you get there, will not be seen and they will have to pay $50 up front before they are taken back to see a doctor, if they are self-pay. Then you have to come up with more money after that for whatever else might be done. From what I heard, they are not getting paid on the Medicaid payments from the state, so they stopped taking them. I know here in Illinois, the state is broke. My Mom’s secondary insurance was thru a university (state covered), they have to wait for the state to cut the checks and they are taking up to 43 weeks to pay their portion, AFTER Medicare pays. I can see a big problem with having more and more people on the dole and expecting these places to maybe or maybe not get paid. If it is like this state, can you blame them for not wanting to take anything that is not Blue Cross or Aetna, etc.? I think that Obamacare is going to be a BIG mess when it takes hold and we are going to have very poor quality care on top of it. We will long for the appointment time of the past….instead we will sit until they call our number,,,that is what we will be, A NUMBER!

Wow! Somehow I missed this and it is unbelievable! Of course she has no problem with liberals from Massachusetts and Vermont moving here and affecting our politics.

This is what is going on here in Illinois today…the rest of the states might be following if this is allowed to happen.

Luckily there was not the vote count here to pass this….but they will keep trying!

      • January 3, 2013 10:45 pm

I’m glad to hear this failed but you are right, they will keep coming back and they will not stop until they are successful.

Wel, well, well, we dodged the bullet on the gun control here in Illinois for the time being… BUT, we have not dodged the “illegals” getting their drivers licenses and will be “legal” to drive! Correct me if I am wrong, but if you are here ILLEGALLY and get a LEGAL drivers license, what the hell is wrong with our state government? I mean, if they get pulled over and now have insurance (ya right, when pigs fly), are they still not illegal and should be taken to jail? Where am I missing something here? I should feel better that the maybe 1% that MIGHT get insurance will be covered if they hit me? Only in ILLINOIS could this happen. I am sitting here and shaking my head as I type this, I can not believe what idiots we have in power and WE put them there! Amazing!

    • January 9, 2013 7:53 pm

They just keep coming at us with more and more don’t they? And this is being done on purpose so that it will be impossible for us to keep up with what they are doing.
