Ener1 is a company which manufactures the batteries used in electric cars. This company was awarded over $118 million in stimulus money as part of Barack Obama’s “green energy initiative.” When it was learned that the company was awarded this money this is what Brian Levine–one of Joe Biden’s policy advisers–had to say about the news:

The facility that the Vice President visited would not exist if not for a $118.5 million grant from the Department of Energy, which was part of a $2.4 billion Recovery Act investment in electric vehicles

When Joe Biden visited the company he had the following to say:

Well, ladies and gentlemen, here at Ener1, we’re going to harness electricity and bring it to the world like Edison did more than a century ago,” said Biden. “We’re going to reshape the way Americans drive, the way Americans consume, the way Americans power their lives. And in turn, we’re going to reshape America itself. We may not make battery power so cheap that only the rich can afford to drive their cars on imported oil, but—but–with Enron1 (sic) leading the way, we’re certainly going to come pretty close.

It turns out that Enir1 did not “come pretty close” to remaking America as Joe Biden had claimed, and while Brian Levine claimed that the “future looks bright” for Enir1 it turns out that neither of these predictions were close to being the truth because today the company filed for bankruptcy.

Brian Levine and Joe Biden made their statements in January of 2011 and it was predicted that because of this government aid the company would eventually be able to add 1,ooo people to the workforce. Even if this ended up being true, $118 million to create 1,000 jobs seems like a high price to pay. But one year later the company which Brian Levine said would not exist without the stimulus money has filed for bankruptcy anyway and may soon cease to exist in the near future so it turns out that the taxpayers spent $118 million to prop up a green energy company for one year.

  What a bargain!

I was going to write a post about this last week when the news first broke, but then decided against it because I felt this was something that was going nowhere so why bother? But after reading this article tonight I asked myself a different question; why not write about it?

Frustrated with the slow progress being made by the federal government’s investigation into the Fast and Furious scandal, due in part to the stonewalling of Eric Holder on pertinent documents related to the scandal, Arizona has decided to open up its own investigation into the deadly scandal to determine if the federal government broke any state laws when it entered the illicit business of gun trafficking.

Here is part of what Arizona House Speaker Andy Tobin had to say earlier today about this decision:

This is an incident that occurred on Arizona soil, with Arizona business owners, [where we lost] an Arizona agent (Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry), and quite frankly we felt it needed a lot more attention. We felt our citizens needed a place to go to share their stories. Maybe there’s more there. This was a failed program right from the start and I think the idea is to put more light on it.

It doesn’t appear he had a grasp on it right from the beginning when the inquiries started coming in. And forgive me for being concerned when I hear that the federal government’s here and they’re here to help. [We’re] the state that had to pass S.B. 1070 so we could help secure our borders, and the fed sued us…we’ve lost millions of acres of forest land [to fires] because the feds won’t let us clean them, we’ve got a Navajo power plant that the EPA may close…I meant the list goes on and on.

The public deserves some answers and we can’t wait for the fed to give us some of those answers. So let’s put some light on it, let’s have some transparency in government. Let’s go ahead and bring some Arizona citizens in to testify and see where this leads us.

I take issue with only one thing that Mr. Tobin said in the quotes above: This was not a failed operation and in fact this operation was proceeding exactly as the Obama regime had hoped it would right up until the regime had American blood on its hands. Andy Tobin is assuming that this was a legitimate operation with legitimate goals, but in my opinion this was nothing but an attempt by the Obama regime to prove the 90% lie and ensure that American weapons would be found at crime scenes along the border so it could be used as an attempt to ban assault weapons and gain support for the United Nations Small Arms Treaty. It wasn’t until Brian Terry was murdered with a weapon the United States government knowingly sold to a criminal that the Obama regime thought this was a failed policy, if he wasn’t murdered this operation would still be in effect today.

That being said, I still feel nothing will come from this investigation from a legal perspective, but it could still serve a purpose. Operation Fast and Furious has simply not received the media coverage it deserves, and I would bet that a majority of Americans have not even heard of this scandal, so if opening up this second front against the deadly operation helps to bring attention on a national level to this scandal it will be worth it. Up until now this has mostly been covered in the blogosphere and the mainstream media has been able to ignore it, but if enough people speak long enough and loudly enough Operation Fast and Furious will not be able to be ignored forever. Arizona’s investigation into this matter might just be the first step in this direction.

This is all speculation at this point, but Timothy Geithner feels that if Barack Obama is reelected he will not be asked to return as Treasury Secretary.

He’s not going to ask me to stay on, I’m pretty confident,” Geithner said in the interview. “I’m confident he’ll be president. But I’m also confident he’s going to have the privilege of having another secretary of the Treasury

Now that would certainly be good news, but this is just one man’s thoughts; perhaps Barack Obama has already told TImothy Geithner he would not be returning but this could just be the ramblings of a man who knows he has underperformed at the position entrusted to him by the president and I will not believe it until Barack Obama makes this announcement.

Until that announcement comes there is only one way he can be sure that Timothy Geithner’s tenure as Treasury Secretary is over, and that would be to fire the man who hired Timothy Geithner in the first place.

Warren Buffett is a billionaire who just happens to be a darling of Barack Obama and the left because he has spoken out on the need for the 1% to pay higher taxes. (Although he has never willingly signed over a check to the government to show us how deeply convicted he is on this position.) Barack Obama often cites Warren Buffett’s outspoken views on taxation when he promises to make the rich “pay their fair share” so imagine my surprise when I learned that it is none other than Warren Buffett who stands to benefit from Barack Obama’s decision to kill the Keystone Pipeline.

Mr. Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. owns Burlington Northern Santa Fe LLC, which is among the railroads that would transport oil produced in western Canada if the pipeline isn’t built.

“Whatever people bring to us, we’re ready to haul,” Krista York-Wooley, a spokeswoman for Burlington Northern, a unit of Buffett’s Omaha, Neb.-based Berkshire Hathaway Inc., told Bloomberg News. If Keystone XL “doesn’t happen, we’re here to haul,” she said.

When Barack Obama decided to kill the pipeline he claimed that it was done for environmental concerns. He claimed that the Republicans forced his hand and he had no choice but to kill the pipeline because there wasn’t adequate time for a review on the environmental concerns even though a three year review was completed and found that the risks to the environment were miniscule. The results were not to Barack Obama’s liking so decided to wait for the results of yet another review in the hopes that the results would be more sympathetic to his political agenda. It was this second review which was cut short by the Republicans because Barack Obama was trying to delay his decision until after the election so he wouldn’t alienate voters whose support he will need in order to win reelection.

Barack Obama’s defense of his decision on this pipeline was always dubious, but now we have learned that a darling of the left, and a major Democrat contributor, seems poised to gain substantially from this decision and one has to wonder if this decision was made for environmental concerns, or if this was simply a kickback to Warren Buffett for his support to Democrat causes over the years.

As regular readers of America’s Watchtower already know, I am not fan of Newt Gingrich and I do not wish to see him win the Republican nomination. However he has been under attack as being a racist and using racial code to win support of the Tea Party in South Carolina for calling Barack Obama the “food stamp president” and because these attacks are unjustified I am now compelled to defend him.

I cannot possibly defend him as well as Allen West did, so I will let his words do my dirty work. As can be read here, Allen West came to Newt Gingrich’s defense today:

There is no race code. It’s a fact. Since President Obama has been in the Oval Office, you’ve seen a 41 percent increase in the food stamp recipients in the United States of America. We have a president that’s making more American victims rather than victors.

  He continued:

We also have a 16 percent increase in Americans on the poverty roll — 6.4 million more Americans are on poverty since President Obama took office.

While the left has portrayed Newt Gingrich’s statement as racist because the left associates food stamps with black Americans nothing could be further from the truth, in fact it turns out that more white Americans are on food stamps under the Obama regime than are minorities, and more Americans are now in poverty because of Barack Obama’s policies. Yet that did not stop people such as Jim Clyburn from claiming that Newt Gingrich was using racial code to gain support in South Carolina.

This did not sit well with Allen West:

“If there are people such as Rep. Clyburn that don’t want to face up to the truth then that’s on them and I think it’s absolutely reprehensible that they feel that the only thing they can fall back on is try to create some type of racial division which we know that the Democrats are already trying to create some type of class warfare division as well,” he said.”

West added, “We don’t need these gimmicks that the Democrats and people like Clyburn and also I heard Al Sharpton made some very ugly remarks, we don’t need that

This is all the left has left; they cannot defend Barack Obama’s failed policies so they attack the people who oppose Barack Obama in an attempt to delegitimize his opponents, and we can expect the attacks to continue as the Democrats get more desperate to hold onto power. This is going to be one of the ugliest and dirtiest campaigns in United States history, and it hasn’t really even started yet.

The left will try to push Americans apart and divide us on issues based on race and class warfare and we know the Democrats will be up to the task, the only question is; will the Republicans have the courage to stand up and fight back against this vile and vicious attack? If they are not, the race is already lost.

It might sound like something you would read about in Atlas Shrugged–the Anti-Dog eat Dog Bill or the Equalization of Opportunity Bill–but sadly this idea of creating a “Reasonable Profits Board” to gain greater control on oil industry profits is being introduced by six Democrats in the House. In case you were wondering, the six Democrats are; Dennis Kucinich, John Conyers Jr., Bob Filner, Marcia Fudge, Jim Langevin, and Lynn Woolsey.

The bill would create this board which would be charged with implementing a “windfall profit” tax on the oil companies, up to 100%, after they reach what this unelected board (the three members would be chosen by the president) decided was a reasonable profit. However the bill doesn’t define what a reasonable profit is, that would be left up to the three member panel. And the money will then be spread around by the government and used to invest in alternative energy.

What could possibly go wrong with this plan? Think Solyndra, SunPower, LightSquared, Fisker, Beacon Power, BrightSource, Solazyme, and Tesla–all companies involved in the Solargate scandal and all companies with ties to Democrat donors which happened to receive billions of dollars in stimulus money. I think we can reasonable expect the same in this instance.

Remember Barack Obama once said that at “some point you’ve made enough money” and now Democrats are moving to set up a board which would tell oil companies when they made enough money and who doesn’t think that this idea will spread into other industries over time until we get to the point where an unelected panel is deciding not only how much money they can make but also how much product a company can produce, what they can produce, and how much they can charge for that product?

What type of person do you think Barack Obama would place on this board? I think I know who his first nominee will be:

What a difference a week makes!

Last week at this time it looked as though Mitt Romney was positioned to win the first three contests and sweep his way to the Republican nomination virtually unchallenged; he had won Iowa and New Hampshire and had a big lead in South Carolina and Florida, but when the Iowa votes were recounted because of a typo Rick Santorum was declared the winner in Iowa. This news, coupled with Newt Gingrich’s strong debate performances last week and Mitt Romney’s debate meltdown over a question he should have twice been prepared for allowed Newt Gingrich to surge into the lead in the South Carolina polls leading up to the vote and he won the primary going away, has shaken up the GOP primary race.

Instead of the coronation Mitt Romney was anticipating after South Carolina he is now going to have to fight for his political life going forward. It is true he still enjoys a big lead in Florida, but South Carolina has just shown us what that means–nothing. Mitt Romney is showing us that he simply cannot seal the deal and this should be troubling to all of those who want to defeat Barack Obama in the general election.

He lacks the killer instinct and that was evident in the South Carolina debates and in the final results in the Palmetto State. Mitt Romney is too soft and lacks the political fortitude to make a serious challenge to Barack Obama and if he is the nominee I fear that he will wilt just as he did in both Iowa and South Carolina, paving the way for Barack Obama’s reelection. Newt Gingrich will hold his own in the debates against Barack Obama–he will not wilt as did Mitt Romney–but the fact is there will probably only be two debates in the general election and that probably will not be enough to persuade enough voters that he is the conservative he claims to be in light of his history. (He cosponsored over 400 bills with Nancy Pelosi)

This race just got a hell of allot more interesting, so what does this mean heading into Florida? I don’t know the answer, but what I do know is this: After three contests we have three different winners and the race is wide open. Brilliant analysis, huh? But at this point I do not know what to expect anymore.

It looks as if Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich are in this for the long haul, but what about Rick Santorum and Ron Paul? Ron Paul’s support has remained steady as the race moves forward while Rick Santorum had a modest bump between New Hampshire and South Carolina. Rick Santorum’s bump might be enough to carry him into Florida, but if he remains mired in the 10 to 15% range in Florida the writing is on the wall and it might be time for him to bow out.

The same could be said for Ron Paul, I think his support is maxed out and I do not see him gaining momentum in Florida, but I do not see Ron Paul going anywhere anytime soon and he could very well play the spoiler heading forward.

The remaining states will be left to choose between two moderate to liberal big government Republicans when the only conservative and the only libertarian end up dropping out of the race and the Republican party will be worse off for it when they square off against Barack Obama. When the American people are given the choice between a known and unapologetic liberal in Barack Obama and a liberal masquerading as a conservative the American people will choose the real deal every time.

Having said all that, it is on to Florida and God only knows what will happen next, but I rest assured that what I think will happen probably will not happen.

I am writing to advise you that my client is going to assert his constitutional privilege not to be compelled to be a witness against himself

This is his right as guaranteed under the constitution and I do not begrudge him this right, but we all know that most of the time when the fifth amendment is invoked that the person invoking the fifth is guilty of something. How can a person be a witness against himself if he were not guilty of something? A person would not plead the fifth if he had the chance to clear his name and normally I would feel that Cunningham is guilty of a crime, but there just might be more to this story.

In all likelihood Cunningham is guilty of a crime, but was he ordered to commit the crime from above? Was his real crime not speaking out when ordered to commit the crime in the first place?

This is what Cunningham’s lawyer believes, and this is why Cunningham claims he is refusing to testify.

Department of Justice officials have reported to the Committee that my client relayed inaccurate information to the Department upon which it relied in preparing its initial response to Congress. If, as you claim, Department officials have blamed my client, they have blamed him unfairly

Romero claims Cunningham did nothing wrong and acted in good faith, but the Department of Justice in Washington is making him the fall guy, claiming he failed to accurately provide the Oversight Committee with information on the execution of Fast and Furious

Patrick Cunningham believes he is being made the scapegoat by Eric Holder and the “Justice” Department and it appears as if he is worried that if he comes clean about his role in Fast and Furious that Eric Holder will not be as truthful as he and he will take the fall for Eric Holder. So he feels it is best for him not to say anything whatsoever.

This in and of itself is an indictment of Eric Holder–the man charged with upholding the laws of the United States, and the top law enforcement agent in the nation–and the regard in which he is held.

Today was an unusually busy day in the Republican primary and I thought that I would touch on everything that happened in one post. We have four stories which I consider to be big news items and it is hard to chose which to go into first but I have decided to start with the fact that when the candidates debate tonight there will be one less participant because earlier today Rick Perry dropped out of the race.

Stating that he saw no viable path to the nomination, Rick Perry suspended his campaign and endorsed Newt Gingrich for president. It is true that Rick Perry was only polling at around 2% in South Carolina so what will Perry’s endorsement mean in South Carolina? I expect most Perry supporters to back Newt Gingrich in South Carolina while some may head over to the Rick Santorum campaign, and I don’t see many of Rick Perry’s supporters ending up in Ron Paul’s camp.

With Rick Perry at two percent I would say the effect in South Carolina would normally be minimal, but a recent poll (which I will get to shortly) shows that the race has tightened up substantially so every vote is important and if Newt Gingrich ends up winning the votes of a majority of Rick Perry supporters is could actually be enough to put him over the top in South Carolina and change the dynamics of this race heading into Florida.

And speaking of a change in dynamics: Iowa began a recount two weeks ago when a typo was discovered in one county which awarded Mitt Romney an extra 20 votes. Today the official results were released and it turns out that Mitt Romney did not win Iowa by 8 votes after all, and in fact Rick Santorum took the Iowa Caucus by 34 votes. While this really doesn’t affect the delegate count of Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, or Ron Paul this is still an interesting turn of events because it flies in the face of Romney’s claim that he has made history by winning both Iowa and New Hampshire–no other candidate had done that before, and now no candidate has done so–and gives Rick Santorum bragging rights heading into the debate tonight. Mitt Romney is no longer the invincible Republican candidate whose nomination is all but insured.

A week ago Mitt Romney’s nomination looked inevitable as he appeared ready to sweep Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina but now he has lost Iowa and it looks as if New Gingrich stands a good chance of winning South Carolina. Instead of a Republican coronation after South Carolina we could have a real race here as there could be three different winners after the first three contests. And even if Rick Santorum does poorly in South Carolina his Iowa victory could keep him in the race through Florida, where otherwise he might have dropped out.

So why might we have three winners after three contests when Mitt Romney appeared so strong in South Carolina one week ago? The answer is found in the latest Rasmussen poll–which was conducted exclusively after Newt Gingrich’s superb debate the other night–which shows that Newt Gingrich has actually surged ahead of Mitt Romney in the final days of the South Carolina primary.

The poll shows Newt Gingrich leading Mitt Romney 33-31% with Ron Paul and Rick Santorum battling it out for third place with 15% and 11% respectively. With the race this tight it is going to be very important where Rick Perry’s supporters end up going and I don’t think that many of them will end up voting for Mitt Romney so Rick Perry’s endorsement could be just enough to put Newt Gingrich over the top.

And that leads us nicely into the last big news of the day: ABC has decided to run a personal attack on Newt Gingrich by airing an interview with one of his ex wives shortly after the debate ends. When Newt Gingrich announced that he was seeking the presidency I wrote a scathing post on Newt Gingrich for what I felt were his personal shortcomings because I think it is fair game to judge a candidate’s character by how he lives his personal life so I don’t begrudge ABC for this decision–I only wish they held all presidential candidates to the same standard as they are now holding Gingrich.

It is no coincidence that ABC decided to run this story while Newt Gingrich was soaring and threatening their golden boy, Mitt Romney, because the media has chosen Mitt Romney as the most desirable and least offensive Republican candidate and will do whatever it takes to help him win the nomination before turning on him when he squares of against Barack Obama in the general election. We saw this play out in 2008 with John McCain and now it is happening all over again in 2012–the media is trying to select our candidate.

There are no new revelations on Newt Gingrich here, this is all old news but the media is hoping that there are voters out there who haven’t heard this before–even though Gingrich has already admitted to the truth–and they are looking to bring him down. Why is it that the media is so gung ho to attack Newt Gingrich on this issue when they gave John Edwards a pass in 2008 for much the same behavior? Why is it that the media finds this old news so important when they didn’t bother to question Barack Obama’s relationships with Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn, Tony Rezko, or his rumored relationship with Larry Sinclair? Why is it that the media is infatuated with Newt Gingrich’s personal shortcomings when they were so willing and eager to defend Bill Clinton by attacking his accusers back in the day?

The answer is obvious, isn’t it?

The last order of business which the Congress was charged with before they adjourned was extending Barack Obama’s payroll tax cut. The House had passed a one year extension of the tax cut and sent it to the Senate where a two month extension was passed. The Senate then promptly adjourned–they did not go into recess–and forced the House to vote on the two month extension, and eventually the House agreed to this extension but not before getting a small concession.

That concession was setting a deadline of February 21st for the president to make a decision on the Keystone Pipeline–a decision which he did not want to make before the 2012 election because he knew he could not win no matter what his decision was. This was a no-win proposition for Barack Obama; if he ruled in favor of the pipeline he would upset the environmentalists and if he ruled against the pipeline he would draw the ire of the right, so he would have rather postponed this decision until it could not hurt his chances politically.

Today Barack Obama made that decision: Siting his concern that the deadline imposed on him by the Congress did not allow for an adequate review of the pipeline, Barack Obama killed the Keystone Pipeline and quickly blamed House Republicans for forcing him to make this decision. There are some legitimate concerns about this pipeline, specifically in Nebraska, where the pipeline would extend over a waterway which supplies eight states with drinking water. But is there more to Barack Obama’s decision?

Suddenly Barack Obama is concerned about waiting for a review to be completed before he made a decision, when in the case of Solyndra the Obama regime fast tracked a review for political reasons? Barack Obama knew there were legitimate concerns over the solvency of Solyndra yet the regime fast tracked the review in order to create a backdrop for Joe Biden to announce Barack Obama’s “green energy initiative” and hand the now defunct company $500 million in taxpayers dollars to promote his political agenda. And by the way, Barack Obama rewrote the loan terms in order to protect a Solyndra investor who just happened to be a major donor to both he and his party. In this case he wasn’t concerned about the review process whatsoever.

Barack Obama defended his decision on Solyndra by stating that the $500 million loan was still justified because it saved 1,000 jobs for six months, yet the Keystone Pipeline would have created 20,000 new jobs so something doesn’t quite jive here if we are to believe his explanations on both issues.

One could say he might have learned from the Solyndra debacle and decided to wait until a review was completed before making a decision on the Keystone Pipeline, but if this was the honest answer why did Barack Obama make his decision on the pipeline a full month before the deadline if it wasn’t to ensure that the review couldn’t be completed and an alternative route for the pipeline found, thereby creating a self fulfilling prophecy?

Barack Obama purposely ignored the concerns over the poster child for his “green energy” agenda while at the same time protecting his donors in one case, and then ensured that the concerns wouldn’t be assuaged in this case by cutting the review process short and we are supposed to believe that this wasn’t agenda driven?

Barack Obama wants to gain support for his “green energy initiative” and what better way to do that than by implementing policies which ensure the price of oil remains high?
