Why Mr Pink Eyes?

Okay, I know the question that everyone wants answered is, where the hell did the name mpinkeyes come from?

Here is the story, it may not be very interesting, but it is the truth:

One day before I really gave a damn about following politics closely and was fairly new to the internet I decided to join my first forum. It was a fan forum of my favorite band, The Cure.

90_21.jpg

After all of these years they are still my favorite band, I have amassed a fairly large collection of music including bootlegs and b-sides and rare material. What can I say, I was a teenager for half of the ’80’s. This band’s music still means alot to me. It was when joining The Cure forum that I first needed to come up with a user name.

The Cure have a b-side called Mr. Pink Eyes and it had always been one of my favorite b-sides. I joined the forum as MrPink, a compromise of sorts between the song Mr. Pink Eyes and the character played by Steve Buscemi in reservoir dogs, one of my favorite movies.

I soon learned when trying to join other sites and forums, such as ebay which helped me to add to my Cure collection that MrPink in any form was usually already taken. So I had to come up with a new user name. The logical alternative to me was mrpinkeyes, a take on the song I had originally used when coming up with my name. But that name was one letter too long so I took out the “r” and the rest is history.

Maybe nobody cares why I call myself mpinkeyes but when I created this blog I kept the same name I have been using for so many years and I saw no reason to change now.

As I said at the beginning the story is uninteresting but I thought I would share it with anyone who was thinking, “where the hell does mpinkeyes come from?”

UPDATE: I have now added the ‘R’ into my name and go by mrpinkeyes, I don’t know why I didn’t do it sooner, it made no sense not to have the ‘R’ in my name when mrpinkeyes wasn’t too long of a name to use on WordPress in the first place.

Stay tuned, I may eventually change my name to Mr Pink Eyes, the name I should have gone with in the first place.

Update: The transformation is complete, everything is as it should be.

    Thanks for the explanation!

not to give you a hard time, but couldn’t you have dropped the “m” too and went with just pinkeyes?

    anyway, the story wasn’t boring.

well, I have to admit that I always wondered… and that certainly clears it up!

And don’t feel self-conscious. I’m a big Cure fan too, and have been for many years.

It is amazing the things you learn when you are searching through friends blogs!

    Bravo!

Hey, I really like your pages of the Bill of Rights, Constitution and Declaration of Independence! Could we put links to your pages on our resource page at the Grizzly Groundswell? Ofcourse, I am saying this without looking. You probably already did that! So, if you did, you can just laugh at me! I know, I need to get back to updating the site!

Your site is looking great and that Boy Scout Story was excellent. You inspired me to email the council.

Now, Mpinkeyes takes on a whole new meaning! Very interesting. The Cure is a respectable band. Hey, my band I probably should not tell anyone I really like was Huey Lewis and the News! However, back when MTV actually had video’s it was a special time that you could not pay me enough money to take me back to that time.

A simple song can take me back though. First kiss was during John Wait’s, “Missing You” at Red Willow Bible Camp. Can’t remember her name, wait, Jill Lau? Instantly takes me back to that summer when I was almost thrown out of camp for swapping spit at the evening bon fire and having my arm around her shoulder in worship the next day.

Well, thanks for letting me travel back to a time so far back!

Thanks for the compliments Chad, no problem linking my pages to your resource pages, I haven’t done that.
I remember the song Missing You, I was dating my future wife at the time, she had gone away with her family on vacation and I was missing her when I first heard that song.
    Arclightzero, great minds think alike!

I pulled out the “tape” in question I only had to “rewind ” through one song to hear Mr. Pinkeyes! I know I must have heard this song before. Since I had been dating Mpinkeyes for three years when it came out in 1986! By the way ,cool song! I could never watch Reservoir Dogs without Steve He makes it a million times better! What an awesome gift you are mpinkeyes. I am definately in Love! Sorry to be such a girl. Love Mrs. Pink Eyes

Thats ok, my fav band is Nine Inch Nails. And Neil Young is in a close second. And both are very outspoken libs (COUGH-moonbats-COUGH). But I feel that you have to compartmentalize. I dont have to give a rip about their political opinions to like their music.

Thanks, Blogging Zoom! I found your site through BZ. It looks like you have similar political beliefs to me, AND you’re a Cure fan.

The world is such a small place. I’m subscribed! OK, now is this good or bad, but the Mr. Pink Eye thing made me think of the Cure before I read the explanation?

Rico, you are right, we need to seperate the music from the politics. Music is an escape, but it must be hard with Neil Young when so many of his songs are political.

Fiar, thanks for coming by. I think it’s good you thought of the Cure when you saw the name, it shows you are a true fan. I’m not sure many casual fans would know this song.

I’ve been pretty lucky as far as user names are concerned. Malagent is mine everywhere except Yahoo. But, I’ve been an active user of the internet since the early/mid 90s. Back then in addition to ViolaWWW being high tech, user names were also easy to come by.

Now if only I could track down that impostor on yahoo…

Reservoir Dogs is the BEST damn movie-

And I saw The Cure open for Jesus and Mary Chain in ‘86… great show, but I was already a Republican then! (didn’t bring it up with anyone at the concert, though- nobody seemed interested).

I saw Reagan speak twice in 1984… on top of watching Carter implode and drive the country into the ground, the Gipper’s towering success changed my view of the world… for life.

Keep up the good work here, Mr. Pink Eyes

Hi RR, thanks for the compliment.
I am jealous of you seeing The Cure in ‘86, that was the year that I discovered them, didn’t see them until ‘89. I missed them in ‘96 because I had two young boys but have seen them the other four times they have come around, including earlier this year when I took my two boys to see them. :)

Reservoir Dogs really is incredible, isn’t it. So is Pulp Fiction.
I will be checking out your blog.

Does anyone else have any experience with this?

    Mr P/E-

YouTube 86′d your embedded video of The Cure above for copyright infringement, FYI

Keep up the good work, my friend-

I was wondering about this – do you have any suggestions? I’ve done some research but haven’t been getting very far. Looking for some guidance I guess…
