Edwards’ scam: Make the rich pay for health care
From the New Hampshire Union Leader 02/06/07:
“Yes, we will have to raise taxes,” Presidential hopeful John Edwards said Sunday on “Meet the Press.” Well, at least he was honest about it.
Edwards was speaking of his plan for Washington to force everyone in the United States to carry health insurance, and to have Washington shoulder much of the burden. Edwards estimated it would cost taxpayers as much as $120 billion — a year. Which means it would cost billions more.
Edwards’ plan would cost more than a third of what Medicare costs — and more than what Washington currently spends on education, training, employment and social services combined (Excluding the big entitlement programs), according to the Office of Management and Budget.
Edwards says America’s health care system is “dysfunctional” and cites recently rising costs. But his plan would not control costs, it would shift them to taxpayers. It’s the standard New Deal bait and switch. The new taxes would be paid only by those evil rich people. Just like the income tax. You don’t pay any of that, now, do you?
