The Surge Is Working

For the last week or so there has been a major offensive in Bagdad. al-Sadr has fled Bagdad and is in hiding. He believs the surge will work or he wouldn’t have fled. Why doesn’t he just fight anyway? He’s got 72 virgins waiting for him.
Yesterday the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, Abu Ayyub al-Masri ,was injured and a top aide was killed.
This surge will work if we keep it up, we must stay on the offensive until the job is done. We must fire on them wherever they hide, politically correct or not.
I call on the American people, congress, and the senate to stand behind the president,and America and be on the right side of this war. We will see victory if we keep up the offensive.

There are signs that the surge, combined with new rules of engagement and increased Iraqi participation and accountability are having the effects Gen. Petraeus said they would have. We will see what the ground is like in late summer, which was the time frame Petraeus said the surge would run through.
