Democrats Break Campaign Promise, Balk at Lobby Reform

May 11, 2007

House Democrats are suddenly balking at the tough lobbying reforms they touted to voters last fall as a reason for putting them in charge of Congress. Now that they are running things, many Democrats want to keep the big campaign donations and lavish parties that lobbyists put together for them.

That is the opening paragraph from this article. Funny how that works, isn’t it? Now that they are in power they seem to like the perks that they were denouncing a few short months ago.

The situation concerns some Democrats, who note their party campaigned against a “culture of corruption” in 2006, when voters ended a long run of Republican control of Congress.

With all the scandals that they are trying to sweep under the rug( just read my caught in the culture of corruption posts in the archives for more details), it seems as though this might not be a good time to bring light to the reforms that were promised to the voters. If you really believed they would reform the culture of corruption, or that no Democrats were in the culture of corruption, you’ve got another thing coming.
