Raid of William Jefferson’s(D-LA) Congressional Office Heads to Court

May 17, 2007

Jefferson allegedly accepted $100,000 from a telecommunications businessman — $90,000 of which was later recovered from a freezer in his Louisiana home.

What this doesn’t tell you is that it was recovered during the Katrina evacuation. Jefferson ordered a rescue boat to take him to his house so he could remove the freezer from it. When that boat got stuck a second boat came to the rescue. That boat also got stuck and a helicopter had to fly in and get him out. All this was going on while these boats could have been helping victims of Katrina.

Now the case heads to court to decide whether is office was raided legally. Evidently you are supposed to be able to hide all your evidence of wrong doing in your congressional office and nobody is supposed to be allowed in there to search for it.

Is Jefferson forced to resign as a Republican would be? No, he was appointed to the Ways and Means Committee
