Immigration Reform Bill on hold Until June
It looks as though debate on the immigration reform bill will be put on hold until June. I think this is good news, there had to be a reason they were fast tracking this through before people could see what was in it.
It’s good to see cooler heads may have prevailed and there will be more time to examine what is actually in this bill.
This bill has drawn criticism on both sides of the isle for many different reasons and there needs to be time to examine it.
“It would be to the best interests of the Senate … that we not try to finish this bill this week,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid D-Nev., as the chamber began debate on the volatile issue. “I think we could, but I’m afraid the conclusion wouldn’t be anything that anyone wanted.”
This is the first thing I have ever heard Harry Reid say that I agree with. Although the reasons he doesn’t agree with the bill are different than the reasons I don’t like the bill:
Republicans want to make the bill tougher on the nation’s estimated 12 million illegal immigrants. Democrats want to change a new temporary worker program and reorder priorities in a merit-based system for future immigration that weights employability over family ties.
I’m just glad to see this isn’t going to be rushed through the senate and house and sent to the president’s desk. This bill is over seven hundred pages and needs to be read thoroughly, and then debated on.
