Rep. William Jefferson (D-La) Finally Indicted on Bribery Charges

June 4, 2007

jefferson.jpgRep. William Jefferson has finally been indicted on bribery charges.

It should be a crime that it took this long. If this man was a Republican he would have been forced to step down two years ago. The Democrats would have been all over television screaming for his resignation. The Republicans never came out against this man. I guess that shows you the character the Republicans display compared to the Democrats. Yet he was allowed to run for re-election and the voters were to blind to vote him out.

Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., was indicted Monday on federal charges of racketeering, soliciting bribes and money-laundering in a long- running bribery investigation into business deals he tried to broker in Africa.

The indictment handed up in federal court in Alexandria., Va., Monday is 94 pages long and lists 16 alleged violations of federal law that could keep Jefferson in prison for up to 235 years. He is charged with racketeering, soliciting bribes, wire fraud, money-laundering, obstruction of justice, conspiracy and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act

What you don’t see in this article and what you probably won’t see anywhere were the actions this man took after hurricane Katrina to try and hide his bribe money. You can read my post about this here. This man is reprehensible.

Now house minority leader John Boehner will move to vote on his expulsion. The question here is, will the Democrats vote for his expulsion? Or will the side with the culture of corruption they committed to ending during their campaign last year?

Just the fact that they were able to campaign on a more open, and honest congress when they knew this man was among them all along shows you both the audacity of the Democrats, and the shortsightedness of their constituents.
