When Liberals don’t act like Liberals

From dictionary.com:

4.	favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, esp. as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties.

5.	favoring or permitting freedom of action, esp. with respect to matters of personal belief or expression

7.	free from prejudice or bigotry; tolerant

There are other definitions of liberal, but I chose these three because of the subjects I am going to be addressing in this article.

As you can see by those definitions above, liberals portray themselves as tolerant,and caring of the rights of others, they are also free of bigotry and hatred, they are all-inclusive.

But liberals don’t always act like liberals.

Before I write about when liberals abandon their beliefs, I would like to touch upon some of those beliefs.

Liberals believe in all abortions. They believe that no-one has the right to tell a woman what she can and can’t do to her body. Nobody can make that choice for her, even if the father wants the baby.

Liberals believe in gay marriage. Gay people deserve the same rights as straight people. It doesn’t matter that marriage isn’t a right, it’s a priviledge. Liberals believe you can’t legislate morality, therefore gays deserve the right to be married. This, like abortion to some extent, is a lifestyle choice so we cannot infringe on their civil rights.

Liberals believe in multi-culturism. Why should people who immigrate here have to learn english? We must embrace THEIR culture, they don’t have to embrace ours. Ballots must be printed in several languages so that people who don’t speak english can still vote. This has managed to divide the country, not bring it together. They have seperated Americans into groups and classes, they have labeled everybody. African-Americans,Hispanic-Americans, Asian-Americans, gay-Americans,straight-Americans, and on and on. No longer are we just Americans.

Liberals believe in a welfare state that does not require able bodied people to look for work. They are allowed to collect welfare and social security benefits because the system is unchecked. In this sense they are socialists. Working families are taxed and the money is given to healthy available workers so they can live off the government. There is no incentive to leave the welfare system, it pays too well. Why should we judge them?

Which brings us to the next topic, BIG GOVERNMENT. Liberals believe that the answer to most problems is more government. They believe that government is better at solving problems than the Average American. The more government programs the better.

Liberals believe in rehabilitation instead of punishment. They believe violent repeat criminals and socio-paths are just misunderstood,and can be rehabilitated,returned to society and co-habitate. They are soft on crime because we need to learn why they committed these crimes, not punish them.

These are just a few liberal beliefs, now lets talk about when liberals aren’t liberals. Here are a few instances.

The first is their tolerance, or lack thereof, of conservatives. Liberals are tolerant of all types of people and behavior patterns. But not if you have a different view than they do. If you are conservative they don’t want to even consider the differences in your ideas. If you are a conservative, you are wrong, plain and simple. You are a bigot and close-minded. There are those labels again. Liberals don’t even want to debate you on your ideas because it is so clear to them that you are wrong they consider it a waste of their time. Some of them cheered when Ronald Reagan died. They cheered when Jerry Falwell died. They were saddened when the alleged assassination attempt on Dick Cheney in the middle east failed.

This doesn’t sound like tolerance to me.This goes directly against the three definitions of a liberal that I put forth. To me it seems as if they are bigots to conservative ideas. They are conservo-phobes.

Secondly, they don’t display liberal beliefs when it comes to actions they don’t agree with. Let’s take the banning of smoking in bars and restaurants. Liberals use the argument that second hand smoke is as dangerous as smoking itself to get smoking banned from restaurants and bars. Here in New Hampshire, 75% of restaurants and bars had already voluntarily gone smoke free. That wasn’t good enough for the liberals, so they got smoking banned in all restaurants and bars. This was not a second hand smoke agrument as it was portrayed. People who are bothered by second hand smoke could have gone to three out of any four restaurants and bars and enjoyed being smoke free. They didn’t have to go somewhere that allowed smoking if they didn’t want to. This is simply a case of liberals telling everone else what and where you can put something in your body. When it comes to abortion there are no restrictions on a womans body, but with smoking you can tell someone what they can put in their body. This goes directly against the three definitions of a liberal I put forth.

And speaking of putting things in your body, the next item on the hit-list, trans-fats. Because trans-fats are not good for you liberals are beginning to ban them across the nation. They are taking away your choice whether to eat foods that have trans-fats or not eat them. They believe because they are smarter than you they should tell you what you can and can’t eat. They are babysitting you, making sure you eat right. This doesn’t sound like a liberal idea, it sounds like a restrictionist idea. The list goes on and on with this subject, seatbelts, and hemets when riding motorcycles, to name a couple more.

So, as you can see liberals are liberals when it comes to some social, political, and behavioral issues. At least when it’s convenient for them, but when it comes to issues they don’t agree with they are intolerant, the exact opposite of the definition of liberalism. That is when liberals don’t act like liberals.

And lets not forget about political correctness, this is a liberal assault on free speech. We are told we can’t say certain things that may be offensive to others. They are trying to eliminate language that they don’t agree with. That is also directly against all three of the definitions of liberals that I put forth.

There you have it, an example of how liberals are intolerant of people who don’t think like them, act like them, or even speak like them. By definition, this is not liberal behavior.

I submit that there are not many true liberals, but rather many selective-liberals.
