Giuliani Hammers Bill Clinton on Terrorism
Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani on Tuesday accused former President Clinton of not responding forcefully enough to the 1993 World Trade Center bombing or later terrorist attacks.
Finally, someone questions Clinton about his inaction after the World Trade Center bombings. His response was to treat the terrorist attack as a criminal act. The fact that it was not seen as a military attack on America’s sovereignty helped to lead to the September 11th attack.
Giuliani argued that Clinton treated the World Trade Center bombing as a criminal act instead of a terrorist attack, calling it “a big mistake” that emboldened other strikes on the Khobar Towers housing complex in Saudi Arabia, in Kenya and Tanzania and later on the USS Cole while docked in Yemen in 2000.
Once OBL realized there would be no United States action he was emboldened to carry out further attacks. While I do not support Rudy for president, it is about time someone called out the Clinton administration for their failures.
“Islamic terrorists killed more than 500 Americans before Sept. 11. Many people think the first attack on America was on Sept. 11, 2001. It was not. It was in 1993,” said the former New York mayor.
The United States government, then President Clinton, did not respond,” Giuliani said. “(Osama) bin Laden declared war on us. We didn’t hear it.”
And nothing of merit was done to punish these terrorists, leading directly to the September 11th attacks.
The criticism Bush is feeling now about his decision to fight terrorism is the exact reason Clinton was too afraid to fight terrorism. God forbid Clinton’s precious approval ratings drop by taking on a tough issue that not everyone agrees on. Now we have paid the price for Clinton’s inactions.
