New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch signes Parental Notification Repeal Bill, Shows a Real Lack of Leadership

July 1, 2007

Friday Governor Lynch made it official and signed the parental notification repeal bill. This bill repeals the law which said a MINOR has to have a parent’s permission to have an abortion. What a radical idea. Governor Lynch doesn’t believe that parents have the right to know if their daughters are acting in a dangerous way, and putting themselves at risks for diseases that are worse than pregnancy. Your daughter can’t go on a field trip with school without a permission slip, yet an abortion is okay?

Anyway, I kind of got side tracked, I wanted to talk about a different issue with this bill.

 Or bill signing actually.

It is no suprise to anyone paying attention that Gov. Lynch signed this bill, he had made his intentions clear. What is discerning is the way he signed it. He signed it IN SECRET on Friday afternoon, then went home for the weekend. After he was gone his office announced the signing.

Does this sound like a leader to you? Afraid of scrutiny, he signs the bill and then sneaks home? This is not the first time he has shown poor leadership skills in my opinion.

The mandatory seatbely bill was defeated before Governor Lynch told the people how he stood on that issue. He dodged that bullet.

He wouldn’t give his stance on the civil unions bill during the election, and not until it looked like the bill would pass the legislature. Then he sent out private messages to the bills supporters telling them when the bill signing would be, ensuring there would only be supporters at the public bill signing. An hour before the signing he issued a public announcemnet about the signing. This ensured very little, if any protesters outside the state house.

Next up is a house bill that willl change the way damage settlements are awarded in lawsuits. There are special interest groups on both sides of this issue that the governor is afraid to choose a side here for fear of losing campaign donations.
