Congress Hits Unbelievably Low Approval Ratings for it’s Handling of the War.

  A new Zogby poll came out, and the American people have given congress an approval rating on the war that is so low it is downright laughable. It is almost unbelievable it is so low. Surely, I must be kidding, their approval ratings can’t be THAT LOW, can they. How low do I consider laughable? Here is the answer:

– only 3% give Congress positive marks for how it has handled the war. This lack of confidence in Congress cuts across all ideologies. Democrats – some of whom had hoped the now Democrat-led Congress would bring an end to the war in Iraq – expressed overwhelming displeasure with how Congress has handled the war, with 94% giving Congress a negative rating in its handling specifically of that issue.

  3% approval rating on the war. WOW. Now, I’m sure as the statement above mentions, many of the Democrats polled naively thought that the Democrats could an would really end the war. That is their own fault, if you are a Democrat and you voted on the one issue of ending the war, you were a fool for believing they had any real intention of doing so. But I believe many people are also upset at how the congress has been trying to undermine the troops. In news that should be equally troublesome for the congress:

To best show support for the troops, 42% believe Congress should fully fund the war in Iraq to maintain current troop levels, while 34% would favor attaching requirements for phased withdrawal to Iraq war funding. Just 18% said cutting all funding for the war in Iraq to bring troops home would be the best showing of Congressional support.

  Only 18% believe that the war should just be defunded. Normally the Democrats would follow this type of polling data, but there is one problem. Who is that 18%? That 18% is the Democrat base. A very vocal and well funded base. So the Democrats are forced to try and appease their base, while trying to sound tough on terror, and they will never pull it off. The American people are too smart. Or at least I hope they are.
