Senate Passes Domestic Spying Bill

August 4, 2007

Okay, sane, thinking Americans know that this was never a domestic spying program, but that never stopped the Democrats from portraying it that way.

The Senate, in a high-stakes showdown over national security, voted late Friday to temporarily give President Bush expanded authority to eavesdrop on suspected foreign terrorists without court warrants. The House, meanwhile, rejected a Democratic version of the bill.

Notice how the article calls them foreign terrorists now? Isn’t that something? All this time Democrats have been telling us that president Bush is spying on US. Now that the Democrats have to vote on it their lie has been exposed. If it was really a DOMESTIC spying program they would never have voted for this bill. Democrats have been caught in another lie.

The Democrats know and always knew that this program is vital to national security, and were not willing to take the hit voting against a program that they said was illegal before last November’s election. This cannot sit well with the far left radicals they have been lying to all along.

The bill “will give our intelligence professionals the essential tools they need to protect our nation,” said White House spokesman Tony Fratto. “It is urgent that this legislation become law as quickly as possible.

That is what the president has said all along, now the Democrats have changed their tune. So who is holding onto their beliefs? President Bush. Although the Democrats aren’t really changing their beliefs, just the public perception of their beliefs, the perception that this program was illegal. They always knew this program was legal and their vote confirms it. If it wasn’t legal they would have stopped it, wouldn’t they?

This is not playing well to the far left.

“We’re hugely disappointed with the Democrats,” said Caroline Fredrickson, legislative director for the American Civil Liberties Union. “The idea they let themselves be manipulated into accepting the White House proposal, certainly taking a great deal of it, when they’re in control – it’s mind-boggling.”

They are not in control. Despite the media telling us the American people gave the Democrats a mandate, they have a very slim majority. They don’t have enough votes to pass any legislation without some support of the Republicans.
