Catholic Priest to Offer Confession to Global Warming Sinners

I have heard a few people, including Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter, call global warming a religion. Rush claims that the environmentalists believe the planet is God and that people commit sins against it. Now, as can be read here, a Catholic priest is going to start offering green confessions.

Forgotten to recycle any newspapers or tin cans recently? Feeling guilty because you neglected to carbon offset your flight to somewhere, anywhere, outside England this summer?

The Roman Catholic Church is at hand with a new line in “green confessions” to help eco-sinners to find forgiveness.

Dom Anthony Sutch, the Benedictine monk who resigned as head of Downside School to become a parish priest in Suffolk, will be at the county’s Waveney Greenpeace festival this weekend to hear eco-confessions in what is thought to be the first dedicated confessional booth of its kind.

Everyone is trying to get into the act now. I just find this incredible.

Vested in a green chasuble-style garment made from recycled curtains, and in a booth constructed of recycled doors, he will hear the sins of of those who have not recycled the things they ought to have done and who have consumed the things they ought not to have done.

He will hear sins about not recycling? Since when is this a SIN? In a way he is hearing people confess to sins against the planet. Now, I may not be the best person who should discuss religion but, aren’t all of people’s sins against God, when you commit wrongdoing to another it is a sin against God. Or so I was taught when I was in school. It’s been a long time for me, so if I am incorrect about this please inform me, as I said I am not a person who is well versed on this issue. So now we have sins against God and against the earth. Evidentally the priest has some reservations about this:

He told The Times: “It is not, I hope, blasphemous to do this. I do not think it is. It is just an attempt to make people conscious of the way they live. The Church is aware of green issues and of how aware we have to be of how we treat the environment.

Maybe I am taking this story to seriously, I don’t know, but I am tired of everyone jumping on the global warming bandwagon and this is just the latest example. To me this story makes a mockery out of what is supposed to be a serious sacrament.

Well, there’s a bit of Christianity that Liberals might actually accept.

CONFESSIONS are not going to get HUMMERS out of the parking lots — the only thing catholics can do is – instead of passing out wafers – pass out CONDOMS
