Latest New Hampshire Senate Poll (09/18/07)

September 18, 2007

Early poll showed a huge lead for the then undeclared Jeanne Shaheen if she were to run against Senator John Sununu. Shaheen declared she was running for senate last week and the first polls are out. And they are alot closer than they were not that long ago.

Rasmussen Reports and Fox Television Stations surveyed 500 likely New Hampshire voters on Sept. 16 and found that Shaheen leads Sununu, 48 to 43 percent, far closer than the 54-38 percent Shaheen advantage reported in a poll by the University of New Hampshire in July.

The margin of error was 4.5 percent.

Rasmussen reported that Shaheen is viewed favorably by 51 percent of New Hampshire voters and unfavorably by 44 percent. Sununu’s numbers are almost identical: 50 percent favorable and 43 percent unfavorable.

The American Research Group released a poll today also showing Shaheen with a 5 percentage point lead over Sununu. The Manchester-based pollster interviewed 558 likely voters and found Shaheen with 46 percent, Sununu with 41 percent and 13 percent undecided. Its margin of error is 4.2 percent.

Each led overwhelmingly among voters in their respective parties, but Shaheen also led, 46 to 35 percent among independents with 19 percent undecided.

A June ARG poll showed Shaheen leading Sununu, 57 to 29 percent.

It is still very early, perhaps all is not as lost as I had thought a month ago here in New Hampshire.
