Media Donations Favor Democrats 100-1
Not that this comes as any surprise but the media is decidedly biased. You need to look no further than the coverage that President Obama is getting on his whirlwind global tour or the New York Times refusal to run John McCain’s editorial to see it in full force. But exactly how many liberals are there in the media? The number is staggering. “Journalists” who have made political donations have donated to Democrats at a rate of 100 to 1.
Just look at the chart to the right to see how outnumbered the Republicans are in donations made by
people in the media. Even Fox News, the organization that is the scourge of the far left who believe the network is biased toward conservatives, gives more money to Democrats than Republicans. As a matter of fact Republicans have received no money from anyone at Fox News. The interesting part of this whole campaign is how the media has given up at even trying to pretend that they are non partisan. They are so confident that President Obama is a sure thing that they are not even trying to hide their biases anymore. You need to look no farther than Chris Matthews who said during the Democrat primary season after hearing President Obama speak, “ My, I felt this thrill going up my leg.”
President Obama has the media all a-flutter and they can’t contain themselves, that was the perception before seeing these numbers. After seeing the numbers we see that in this case perception is reality.

I would love to see numbers behind that study. While I agree with the general premise that the media favors democrats, I would suspect that are some serious flaws in their study to be able to get that high of a ratio.
Looking at that list, I noticed that organizations such as NPR are absent which means to me that Limbaugh and Hannity are not even counted. I have a hard time believing that O’Reilly hasn’t made a contribution and if he did, it was to the democrats. Also, unless I am mistaken, radio is not represented at all in the list.
Taking a look at OpenSecrets.org, the contributions for the category of “Commercial TV & Radio Stations” shows it to be a 50/50 split for the 2008 cycle. This category also shows that the donation have historically favored republicans. In 2000, it was a 2:1 ratio favoring republicans. Interesting thing I noticed though, the amount contributed to democrats has been relatively constant but the amount going to republicans has been dropping.
If you go to the “TV / Movies / Music” category which probably includes the wackos in Hollywood, the ratio is 3:1 favoring democrats. For the “Books, Magazines, & Newspapers” category (no category for just newspapers which would have been a more interesting number), it is again a 3:1 ratio favoring the democrats.

So much for the media supposedly being fair and unbiased…

You are right, Terrant, I think it is only television, not radio. I would probably guess that radio is alot closer as you point out. There are more popular conservative shows on the radio (Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Reilly) than liberal ones, so a 50/50 split certainly looks good for the Democrats. I am not surprised that the contributions to Republicans have fallen, they have done it to themselves.

Hey, maybe they are sick and tired of getting “screwed” for nothing by the Republicans? Sorry – had to say that one!

Terrant,
The answer to the O’Reilly question may be as simple as this, many TV networks do not allow their employees to make political donations because said donations are easily traceable. Hence the networks do not wish to have their employees traced then have the network considered even more biased
