Barack Obama Plays the Race Card Part 2

July 31, 2008

This is the second time that President Obama has played the race card  in this election. Here is what Obama recently had to say:

So what they’re going to try to do is make you scared of me,” Obama said. “You know, he’s not patriotic enough, he’s got a funny name, you know, he doesn’t look like all those other presidents on the dollar bills.”

This is not the first time that President Obama has used language very similar to this, here is a quote I used in a post on June 21st.

“They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?”

Naturally John McCain criticized Obama for his stereotype of Republicans and President Obama’s campaign scrambled to explain that the statement has nothing to do with race.

“What Barack Obama was talking about was that he didn’t get here after spending decades in Washington,” Gibbs said Thursday. “There is nothing more to this than the fact that he was describing that he was new to the political scene. He was referring to the fact that he didn’t come into the race with the history of others. It is not about race.”

What a crock of shit that statement is, all Americans liberal and conservative know exactly what President Obama meant. The term “look like” meant only one thing, and the fact that Obama believes that conservatives may be scared of him because of his race is bigoted and hateful. And condescending.

He may be right about one thing, conservatives are afraid of him. But we are not afraid of him because of his color, we are afraid of him because of his policies. He is the most liberal person ever to make it this close to the presidency, and in 3 months he will win the white house and conservatives find the thought of such a liberal president scary.

This is not a race issue President Obama, please don’t stoop so low as to make it one. Debate conservatives on the issues, not on the color of your skin. We are past that, it is time that you get past it also.

    Deja vu all over again…

The republican party makes veiled comments about race and when Obama calls them on it they say he’s playing the race card. This tactic stinks the same way it stunk when Clintons did it in the 90s and in the primaries.

What comments are you referring to? So far I have only heard Obama tell us that the Republicans are going to try to “scare” people with the race issue (as if race is scary for some reason), but I haven’t heard the Republicans do it.

As I said, it’s deja vu… First, there was the usage of Wright by the South Carolina republicans; but that is old news.

Of course, there’s the “can we still call it the white house” button from the Texas republican convention. Here’s a clip of Pat Buchanan using the term “exotic” and then back peddling.

The republicans are not going to go and take out ads that say “vote McCain because the other guy’s black.” They’re not that stupid.
