Tourists are Cheering the Republican Revolt

August 6, 2008

Cross posted on Grizzly Groundswell

Okay, this will me my last post on the issue of the Republicans and their “revolt” in the house. I can’t make any promises though because I find this topic very interesting. I think this whole ploy is a stroke of public relations genius in a time when Republicans need something to rally around.

Today Republicans continued to speek in favor of offshore drilling even though the house was adjourned last Friday. This is day three of the “revolt”. This is a ploy to gain support among Americans who now support offshore drilling by a 2/3rds majority. And also and attempt to expose Democrats who have delayed the vote through the Summer months while Americans struggle to make ends meet.

While the “revolt” has failed so far, and will continue to fail, to bring the Democrats back to the table for a debate on the issue, it has provided the Republicans with all of the positive exposure that they could have hoped for.

Tourists are now gathering at the house to watch the proceedings and cheering the Republicans on.

Musgrave’s words were again lost as the crowd cheered, repeating the standing ovation given to speakers who came before and after her. The crowd chanted “vote, vote, vote,” in response to remarks by members who spoke, including Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.), Mike Pence (R-Ind.) and John Shadegg (R-Ariz.).

Republicans have needed to do something to gain some enthusiasm from their base because there is none, this could be just what they needed. Democrats remain energized and excited to vote while Republicans are discontent. Part of this comes form the fact that the elected Republicans have been unwilling to stand up and fight, unlike the Democrats after the 2004 elections who circled the wagons and regained the momentum. Part of it also comes from the fact that Independents and Democrats who were allowed to vote in the early states primaries picked a dull, drab, monotone, boring RINO to be their nominee for president. Nonetheless the Republicans needed something to rally around and while we can’t rally around our presidential candidate we need to try to hold off the slaughter that is predicted in November so this “revolt” could be just what the doctor ordered in order to resuscitate the Republican’s hopes in just a few short months.

So while Nancy Pelosi is on her book tour, while the lights and mics remain turned off, while the television cameras are not running, and the media is not covering this event the Republicans press on. The momentum is building and people are listening. One sign summed it up best; “Nancy Pelosi, We’re Here, Where are You?”

Well, you’re right about one thing: the Republicans have nothing going for them, so they are reduced to putting on this pathetic bit of theater for the benefit of wing-nuts and paid operatives. And, speaking of paid, have I mentioned that each of these Republicans is receiving millions in legalized bribes from oil companies? If that doesn’t work, they’ll threaten to shut down the government and blame it on the Democrats, showing they don’t give a rat’s — about serving the people (as if that’s news). Grow up!

And the Democrats are clean? The Democrats are in the pocket of special interest environmental groups and that is why they are unwilling to vote. If you think that the Democrats care about you than you are the one who needs to grow up.

    Hi Mr. Pink Eyes,
I agree with you, the Dems aren’t clean, just a little cleaner. The politicians who care about us are few and far between. I think one of the most caring is Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, and wouldn’t you know it, he’s a socialist! There are even a few principled Republicans – Richard Lugar, Chuck Hagel, Ron Paul, among others. See, I give credit where credit is due. Environmentalists are not special interests. They are public interest, because what they do benefits everybody (unless you are a destroyer of the environment). You really can have a good life without destroying the environment.

This entire discussion is a “manufactured issue”.
    Smoke screen and mis-direction.

Compared to the rest of the world we now pay market rates for gasoline, except for countries whose governemnts subsidize the cist- like Venezula and Russia.

Sure its expensive but thats the way it is. Free markets right? Isn’t that “the idea”?

And why doesn’t that apply to Bear Stearns, Fannie May and S&L’s (remember the Keating 5!).??

    ANyone?

A lot of us are cheering about this revolt, the American people are with the Republicans on this and the momentum will just continue to build.

Meanwhile, Pelosi’s book will continue to sell less and less copies (if thats possible) and Democrats are going to pay for this. And like you say, its about time!!!!!!!

Maybe Nancy Pelosi should have written an anti-Obama book, those seem to be selling quite well indeed!

If only that good ol’ Republican George Bush had decided to skip his 4 months of vacation back in 2001 so that he could do his job and read important memos like “Al Quaeda determined to attack inside U.S.”

But seriously, everyone is entitled to a vacation now and again. If Republicans want to spend theirs acting like impatient petulant children about a vote that will at best affect anything in ten years time, that’s their right.
