United States and Iraq Agree on Withdrawal Plan
The United States and Iraq have come to a preliminary agreement that could possibly have United States military personnel withdraw from the cities by June of next year. This “timetable” would be contingent upon Iraq meeting certain milestones. The United States would withdraw from Iraq proportionally as the milestones are met.
While Democrats, and President Obama more specifically, will spin this by claiming that the president is finally listening to them after six years of ignoring them because of his stubbornness that is entirely untrue. President Bush and the United States are not agreeing to these terms to capitulate to Democrats, he is not listening to them, he is listening and watching the leaders in Iraq. President Bush has always maintained the position that as the Iraqis stand up the United States will stand down.
With the recent success of the surge and the drastic reduction in violence it is only natural and appropriate that negotiation be undertaken to move into the next phase, and that is what has happened. The circumstances in Iraq have changed to the point that we can begin talking about a plan for withdrawal. That was the president’s plan all along. That is the plan that he stated time and time again. That is the plan that Democrats have mocked. That is the plan that is working.
This is much different than the Democrat’s position that the war is lost, we can’t win, we must leave immediately. There was always going to be a phased withdrawal but the conditions on the ground were going to dictate it not politicians in Washington looking to gain poll numbers with their moonbat base.
President Bush has had the courage to stick to his position through dropping and dismal poll numbers, an onslaught from the Democrats who were hellbent on losing the war, and pressure from an unhappy American people. Now it looks like it may have finally paid off.
