Illegal Aliens Will Have Access to New SCHIP Expansion, Smokers to Pay For It

January 16, 2009

Yesterday the United States House of Representatives voted to increase the SCHIP program. Sounds wonderful doesn’t it? After all this is a program that insures poor children, or at least it was. Now it is just turning into a program to insure the children, even those who were already covered under their parent’s insurance. This is another attempt at eliminating parent responsibility and replacing it with Big Brother government intervention.

It contains big tax increases so Washington can take kids off private health insurance and put them on public subsidies.

So what? All this money goes to insure poor kids, right? Nope. House Republicans introduced a measure to guarantee that low-income children would be first in line to receive the subsidized insurance. Democrats, including New Hampshire’s U.S. Reps. Carol Shea-Porter and Paul Hodes, killed it.

The expansion would make eligible for federally subsidized insurance about 2 million children who are currently covered by private health insurance. It would cover families making as much as three times the federal poverty level.

This is a big tax increase to pay for a middle-class entitlement.

So how do they plan to pay for this entitlement, which in case you missed it covers poor families who make over three times the poverty level? By taxing a politically vulgar group. The smokers.

The bill raises the federal tax on a pack of cigarettes from 39 cents to $1. It raises taxes on small cigars to $12.50 per 1,000 cigars this year, then to $50 per 1,000 in 2015! The tax rate on large cigars is raised to more than 50 percent, with a cap of 40 cents per cigar — eight times the current tax.

So let me get this straight, in order to provide healthcare to the children of families who already have healthcare, the Democrats want to impose a tax that will disproportionally hurt the poorer families. Yeah, that makes sense.

But it gets even worse. There is a provision that would provide healthcare to children of illegal aliens on a temporary basis.

The bill also allows for immigrants, both legal and illegal, to access SCHIP funds, although illegal immigrants may only do so for 90 days.

But the bill eliminates the need for an immigrant to show a photo ID or papers proving that he/she is legal.

The bill removes previous requirements, currently required under Medicaid, that mandate new enrollees provide photo identification and documentation proving citizenship, such as a green card or passport, when applying for SCHIP.

The only document that an immigrant will have to show is a social security number.

The new language strips this proposal and says that states can accept Social Security numbers as proof of citizenship

If an illegal alien steals your social security number they will be able to use it to gain taxpayer funded health insurance. What are the chances of that happening? Well, I hear commercials on the radio all the time that claim that identity fraud is the fastest growing crime in America, and judging by legislation such as the expansion of SCHIP I am not surprised.

This bill is being fast-tracked and should appear on President Obama’s desk shortly after taking office.

    Aliens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    How do they look like?
I really want to see them.
Do they look like short Mexicans?
A chance of illegal immigrants getting SCHIP healthcare is very slim, and they will go to Emergency !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And we will pay for it through our private insurance premium.
    There is no way out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Be with it buddies.
    I am so sad.

So we don’t tax illicit drugs or punish the illegals smuggling them but rather coddle and take care of them and their offspring.
And continue to slander and increase the taxation of this country’s first cash crop. Tobacco is greatly responsible for our Sovereignty. How, you ask? What do you think funded the Revolution? Tobacco and alcohol revenues. But I digress.
The chance of an illegal alien stealing your identity through your SSN or other means is very high.
I and many of my co-workers had our identity stolen by illegals who used it to claim unemployment benefits while we were still employed. Then, when our company went under and we had to file for unemployment, we had to prove that it was not us that filled and collected unemployment benefits before we could actual collect. It was a major hassle including appearing before a judge to give sworn statements and provide employment records.

I do agree that we all need to stop smoking, me being one of them, but that should be our choice, not the governments abality to (spank) us for having a bad habit, i see in the future some time off when the government has taxed the smoker so much that we are all forced to stop smoking and their revenue is so degraded that will make marijuana legal so they can tax it, their soon to run out of options i do believe, this is just my opinion however…

I agree, there is personal responsibility here. A person should be accountable to themselves if they want to quit any behavior, it isn’t up to the government.
The government doesn’t really want people to stop smoking, it is too profitable to them. They see a people who are addicted to a product and so they take advantage of them, they know that they can keep raising taxes on smokers and the smokers will keep on paying.

No I didn’t, the parts that are in yellow are quotes from the article that I linked to earlier in the post. Perhaps the other site that you read this on is a news agrigator, if that is the case than they took it from here. Check to see if they gave me credit. If not I would like to know what the site is because that means they stole it from me. Also check the date from the other site and you will find it was posted after this article.

Welcome to global america the land of the poor and the poor bastards who have to finance their procreation religious habits.

How about some of these illegals and legals pitching in some more taxes to care for children they chose to have? How about lets spank the obese next? Up those cheeseburgers to $50.00 or why not $10.00 each. We’ll make them think carrots look good compared to eating unhealthy food. How about those drinkers? Let’s slap a buck or two on each beer they want to drinl. They shouldn’t be drinking anyway according to our great uncle. Hey, how about taxing infedility? That would put a huge tax burden on goverment officials. Let’s say 100k for every woman you sleep with that is not your wife if you are in goverment service. Clinton would owe a bunch. Maybe we can spank congress into being faithful to their spouces. This will have no end. Socialism here we come. With 40 percent of the people in the US (or more) not paying one dime in income tax, the current administration and the demorats have got this sewed up for a while. Just keep cashing those loosing investments to keep up with the social programs for people who benefit from being poor and know the system all too well.
