James Inhofe on the Stimulus Bill;”it’s 93% Spending and 7% Stiumulus”
Last night the senate reached a compromise on the stimulus bill that is still outrageous and unacceptable. Here is James Inhofe’s statement on the bill from his website:
“While I appreciate the efforts of my colleagues to bring down the price tag of this bill, the fact is we still face a trillion dollar spending bill. Making it worse, the bill is 93% spending and only 7% stimulation. Over the past few days I have fought to include more in the way of real stimulus through higher percentage of infrastructure and defense spending, while working to cut much of the typical government waste often found in a bill of this size. Yet Democrats have blocked these efforts.
“The good news tonight is that the American people are catching on to the fact that this is the largest spending bill in history and are becoming more and more vocal in their opposition. My offices in Oklahoma and Washington DC have been flooded with emails, phone calls and faxes overwhelmingly opposed to this trillion dollar legislation. They can rest assured that my vote remains an unwavering ‘no.'”
There is still time to stop this bill. The vote is scheduled for Monday at 5:30, it is up to EVERY one of us who oppose this legislation to write or call our senators and voice our displeasure with the piece of legislation.
Contrary to what the arrogant, condescending president claimed yesterday, a stimulus bill doesn’t have to be a spending bill. Sure if the money is spent on job creating projects that is one thing but the spending in this bill that has nothing to do with helping the economy is astonishing. This bill should be called the “Entitlements for America and Democrat Agenda Bill of 2009”, this bill is nothing but an attempt to pass funding that otherwise would never make it passed the senate.
It is tome to make our voices be heard. We stopped the immigration reform bill and we can stop this bill but we have to act now.
Call or email your senators today!

S. Gramps said this bill was nothing by rewards for getting BO elected..promises made and satisfied.

That’s right, he is paying off the groups that helped him get elected and he isn’t wasting any time. He is already working towards his re-election.

Tax cuts do not work to stimulate the econcomy especially one where the problem is not supply but of demand. The way tax cuts are used, it is no more than welfare for the “haves” leaving the bill for the “have-nots” to pay in the future.
I would much prefer that we spend the money on getting people working and off the unemployment rolls. FYI, unemployment is at 7.6% and that is the politically version that hides the true unemployment rate (last I saw is sitting at 13.5%).
The republicans are just trying to saboutage any chance of recovery. Limbaugh knows it; he even said that if this plan works, the republicans will be a minor power for years. Also, who benefits from a deflationary spiral? He’s a clue, it is the same people who contribute heavily to republicans.

I don’t have a problem with the money that is going to projects that will help get people to work, it just seems like so little of the money is going to those types of projects.

I e-mailed Paul Hodes right after the first House vote explaning how ashamed he should be, going against the wishes of his constituents. To my utter surprise, I already heard back from him. Unfortunately, it was to express how this was such a necessary and good bill. What a jerk! I doubt we can hope for him to smarten up.

Here’s what Hades had to say:
Thank you for contacting me about H.R. 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. I truly appreciate hearing from you, and I am working hard to stand up for New Hampshire’s interests in Congress.
This legislation is the first crucial step in a concerted effort to create and save millions of jobs, jumpstart our economy, and begin the process of transforming it for the 21st century with $275 billion in economic recovery tax cuts. With this legislation, New Hampshire will receive funding for important programs to rebuild our roads and bridges, fund our schools, and invest in renewable energy. This legislation also includes unprecedented accountability measures to ensure that the funds are being spent in the most productive ways possible to stimulate the economy and create jobs.
I will continue to work to ensure that it includes the principals that I believe are important as it moves through the legislative process. I will work to help individuals and businesses through tax relief, invest in our economy to create jobs, and help our state and our communities to weather this economic downturn.
At the same time, I believe that it is absolutely essential that we avoid wasteful spending, and ensure that all taxpayer dollars are used with full accountability and transparency.
On January 28, 2009, I voted for H.R. 1, which passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 244 to 188. Please know that I will continue to closely monitor this bill as it moves forward.
I encourage you to continue to contact me about the issues that are important to you. Please feel free to visit my website at http://www.hodes.house.gov where you can share your ideas with me, learn about the services I can provide to you, and sign up for my periodic e-mail updates on what I am doing to help New Hampshire.

I guess that’s not surprising but he better be careful if he is planning on winning Gregg’s seat in 2010.
