Obama’s Speech on the Economy; Only Government Can Solve the Problem

February 9, 2009

Tonight President Obama gave his stimulus package pep talk trying to convince a sceptical American people that his stimulus bill will actually work. Once again President Obama is using the politics of fear to pass what is nothing but a pork barrel, earmark filled, welfare spending bill. Gone is hope and change replaced with fear mongering.

There is one thing that he said that really bothers the hell out of me:

At this particular moment, with the private sector so weakened by this recession, the federal government is the only entity left with the resources to jolt our economy back to life

Only the federal government can help? What an arrogant, condescending thing to say to the American people. We have been through many recessions over the years, many recessions since the great depression and in the end it is the American people who lead the way out. It is the free market system and businesses that lead the people out. The American people always find the right path back to success.

What makes this recession different?

The fact that we have a far left president whose main goal is to use this crisis to get as many people on the government mammary as possible. That is the only difference. And let me tell you something, the government mammary is going to be getting some serious augmentation surgery over the next four years. This is only the beginning.

For the president of the United States of America to stand before the people of the country and tell us all that we can’t do it on our own but that the savior is here to lead us to the promise land is frankly downright insulting. To hold the American people in such low regard is despicable.

He believes that when left on our own we caused this problem and now only he can swoop in and save the day and I find this insulting. I don’t know what else to say.

Yeah, let’s ignore the majority of the economists that are saying that Washington needs to do something to prevent a deflationary spiral. What’s the private sector going to do? Are they going to hire people they don’t need? Are they going to keep producing goods that nobody’s going to buy?

And it is the stupid, lazy, weak minded parasites that want the government to take care of them, terrant, that have lead to this situation. I mean really, are there still people that think like that? Have we learned nothing from history? We are allowing the government to take over and enslave us all because there are soooo many people that would rather let the government or anyone else take care of them than actually get a job that would require them to actually do something and provide for themselves.
And does anyone beleive that “The majority of economists: have any interests but their own? These so called economists are scared to death that their lifestyle of living off other people’s efforts are coming to an end that they will say anything to get a piece of this big ole pork pie.
What are you going to do when we the people that actually take care of ourselves don’t have anything left to give you? And that’s who’s paying for this fucking criminal spending bill. Guys like me and Mr. Pinkeyes and other hard working people with families to feed. I am sick to death of all of these parasitic whiners sucking me dry while they sit on their collective asses thinking up more deceitful ways of robbing me. And I am sick to fucking death of stupid fucking idiots like terrant that are just too damn stupid to see that this will have an ultimate price tag. The freedoms that so many have sacrificed so much to secure and maintain will be surely eroded until we are nothing more than slaves to the state, all so you don’t have to actually do anything but sit back and let these corrupt politicians screw us all.

anybody who thinks that government can create one single job needs to have their head examined – or at least reevaluate what the term “job” means. Government is good at creating busy work and short term projects, but useless when it comes to creating anything long term or useful.

Every time Obama referred to the government bailout plan creating x nuber of new jobs last night, I cringed. Can he possibly be that ignorant? Arrogant? What is it? I have poured over the stimulus bill a few times now, and have failed to find any real useful methods for creating job opportunities or long term jobs.

WAP, it appears that instead of answering my question, you decide to spew vitriolic ideology. Do you not think for yourself or do you let the Great Ego do that for you? My questions still has not been answered. In what way is the private sector going to save us? When can I see the private sector create jobs to produce goods that nobody is going to buy?

Obviously you have not learned anything from history either as you would know that the economy is a complex beast. If tax cuts were the anwser to all problems we would not be having the problem we are having today. After all, Bush’s tax cuts are still in effect are they not? Truth is what worked yesterday will not necessarily work today.

Today’s problem is with the demand side of the economy. People are losing jobs and people are afraid of losing their own job. The end result of this is less demand. Since there is less need for goods, the private sector reduces production that results in people losing jobs. Those job losses result in less demand which causes more job losses. Do you see where this is going or am I assuming too much about your intelligence?

Tax cuts do not help people who are without a job; they have no income to be taxed. Those people who the tax cuts are going to help are not going to use the money to spend. They are going to use it to pay down debt. While that is not a bad idea, it will not spur the economy enough. This is where Keynesian economics is needed.

When the government funds an infrastructure project such as a road, it creates jobs. The government just does not wave a magic wand and a road appears. It hires contractors to build it. It is the JOB of the people employed by the contractors to build the road. Are those jobs sustainable in the long term? Probably not; but that is the the scope of a short term stimulus bill. My problem with the democrat spending bill is that does not concentrate enough on “shovel ready” projects.

It seems like the your argument, and indeed that of most conservatives, is that the people who are helped by the spending bill are people who do not deserve it. Here is the thing with the parasites (as you put it), when they get money, they spend it. That pushes money into the economy and that is what creates demand. Then again, you seem to be a person who would rather see them living in cardboard boxes under bridges than see any of our money helping them.

You complain about the goverment robbing you and the politicians screwing you. Yet, when it was your guy in the office running record deficits and spending, you did not complain about how he was sucking you dry. So let me say that your outrage is nothing more than a pile of partisan bullshit.

PS: While I might be fucking idiot, I know a $3 trillion deficit created by the tax cuts proposed by DeMint is more than $800 billion.
