John McCain Slams President Obama About the $410 Billion Spending Bill

March 3, 2009

There is a $410 billion spending bill that is being debated on the floor of the senate, this is in addition to the $1 trillion stimulus bill recently passed. This bill contains over 8000 earmarks that total in the $3.8- $7.7 range.

President Obama has already said that he would sign this bill once it made it to his desk, breaking his campaign promise of signing no bills that include earmarks.

Republicans are now beginning to fight back and are attempting to reign in some of this spending. Yesterday John McCain called out the president on his promise to not sign a bill that included earmarks.

We need earmark reform and when I’m president, I will go line by line to make sure we’re not spending money unwisely,” McCain said, reading back Obama’s words at a debate last fall. “That’s the quote, the promise of the president of the United States made to the American people in a debate with me in Oxford, Miss. So what is brought to the floor today — 9,000 earmarks.…So much for change

John McCain is proposing an extension of the stop-gap bill that is currently keeping the government afloat while this bill gets a closer look. This idea is not popular with either party even though it would save about $19 billion, both sides already have their payoffs bribes earmarks in place and appear unwilling to cut them out.

It looks as though this bill will face a tough senate battle and may actually be trimmed down before it is passed and that is good news but it doesn’t answer one vital question. What happened to President Obama’s promise for earmark reform?

Republicans account for about 40% of the earmarks in this bill, they are not without blame here either but Obama promised he would not sign any bill with earmarks so that makes him more guilty than the rest of them. This was a campaign promise that he seems more than willing to break.

The administrations response to the criticism of this bill? Lets just pass it and move on. They seem unwilling to debate what is in this bill, and with good reason; this bill comes with more than just wasteful spending, it comes with broken promises. The sooner this bill is passed and the public forgets about it the sooner the public will forget about another President Obama broken promise.

With the economy in a recession and growing worse every day as the president unveils more of his plans, the last thing that this country needs is more wasteful spending. This is when we need a leader to stand up and say to the congress, cut the wasteful spending and send me a bill I can sign. It appears that President Obama is no such leader.

This spending-crazed President trying to present himself as some sort of deficit-hawk, while completely ignoring the fact that he’s just signed the largest spending bill in US history, is like Stalin giving a speech deploring conditions in his Siberian gulag -.

Obama is simply lying about wanting to reduce the deficit, he instead will bury the needle in the red until we “have to” raise taxes to eye-watering Swedish levels… and then blame it all on Bush. He is a Bolshevik con-artist, nothing more- running a redistributionist agenda through the back door.

It’s about time Obama got called-out on his incredulous statements and disingenous “goals”. He’s been writing his own story while the MSM just parrots it for far too long, and very little of it squares-up with reality.

And Obama couldn’t deliver the type of temporary, targeted, and timely “stimulus” he repeatedly promised. He clearly lacks the the political stature to control Pelosi and Reid… who hit the trough hard, while bickering like siblings.

Now all three of them want to spend MORE… and soak the job-creating entrepreneurs and small businesses to pay for their socialist binge.

One could make the argument that Obma knows his legacy will already be in tatters by 2010-2012.. and is ramming through as much of his far-left agenda as he can before the day comes when people cringe at the mere mention of his name… sure seems like it.

I agree, Obama is trying to ram everthing that he can through quickly because he knows that he has a short shelf life. He wants to implement his radical agenda while he can and he cares more about that than he does about having a second term.

Earmarks? What earmarks? Remember he didn’t find any earmarks in the crapulus bill. If he coudn’t find them in that monsterous pile of pork what makes you think he can find them in a bill less than half the size. I suspect that unless the spending item is preceeded with a bold face title that proclaims “Delete me I’m an earmark” he will simply proclaim that there aren’t any earmarks thereby keeping his promise. I mean seriously he got on tv and said that they had passed a stimulus bill free of earmarks and did it with a straight face. This guy is a good old fashioned pathelogical liar.

He looks at the camera, smiles, and lies right to our faces. And to many people see the smile and don’t listen to the words.

I just don’t get McCain, during the campaign he was afraid to be too critical of the chosen one and now he is coming out hard against him.
