Steve Kroft to Obama: “Are You Punch Drunk?”

March 22, 2009

It seems as though people are starting to tire of the president’s arrogant, condescending, I-know-better-than-you attitude.

Since his majesty ascended to the throne he has been using the politics of fear to tell us how we are in the worst economic crisis of our lifetime, he constantly says that this is the worst economy since the great depression.

So what does he do when we are in what he himself said was the worst economy since the great depression? He decides to go on Jay Leno and tell jokes. While people are losing their jobs President Obama decided to go on a late night show and make a joke comparing himself to special needs children in an unflattering manner.

I am not going to sit here and pretend that I was offended by the president’s joke about the special Olympics, because I wasn’t, other than to say it is a damn good thing that he is a liberal or we would have already heard the cries for impeachment over this joke. What IS offending is the double standard.

But the fact is that it is beneath the office of the president to have gone on a late night show in the first place. Especially with so many Americans hurting. Does he remeber that he is the president? He is not campaigning, well maybe he is, but it isn’t time for a PR stunt (which backfired) it is time for leadership.

This whole idea of going on Leno has hurt his precious image in my opinion. He comes of as uncaring towards the plight of the average American and he is too damn arrogant to even understand that.

As if appearing on Leno wasn’t bad enough he then does an interview for “60 Minutes” in which he is laughing and joking while Steve Kroft , who is not so amused, is trying to conduct a serious interview about the economy. Much to the chagrin of Steve Kroft.

You’re sitting here. And you’re— you are laughing. You are laughing about some of these problems. Are people going to look at this and say, ‘I mean, he’s sitting there just making jokes about money—’ How do you deal with— I mean: explain. . .” Kroft asks at one point.

“Are you punch-drunk?” Kroft says.

Obama laughs this comment off as well. This is just another example of the president’s arrogance. He thinks that is is perfectly acceptable to make jokes and laugh during the greatest crisis of our time, but this man is supposed to be the president. There is supposed to be some professionalism here. Is he so far over his head that when he is asked about the economy he bursts into nervous laughter and tries to make a wry little joke to distract us from the fact that he is clueless?

Average Americans, as well as the press, are starting to wake up to this president and his arrogance and condescension. For him to go on Leno and make jokes and for him to go on 60 Minutes and laugh about the economy is tasteless and classless. Maybe the reason that he is so giddy is because he wants the economy to fail. After all he and Rahm Emanuel have both said that you should never waste a good crisis. In this case Obama is using the crisis to push a far left, government dependant welfare state agenda. No wonder he is laughing.

Nothing he does surprises me anymore. I’m way beyond that.

    ….“Are you punch-drunk?”….

Now THAT surprised me. And that was FUNNY, I don’t care who you are. Somebody in the media with balls. He’ll never get another audience with the messiah though, that’s for sure.

True, he will probably never get another interview with the prez, he won’t be the first one that the president has refused to grant an interview with.

No, he is not punch-drunk. he is giddy at the thought of social change. It is no secret academics and those involved with community organization want to create social equality not by raising everyone higher, but by bringing down the wealthy. For many of them, they have a chip on their shoulder. They view wealth as evil–and this includes anyone making comfortable in the eyes of the poorest. They think by bringing down the rich, they will even the playing field so all can get ahead. The problem is, the top 3% of wealth earners shoulder 90% of the taxes (depending on the state/city) so by destroying them you destroy the economy. At that point everyone is equal and must rely upon the government. It’s one way to bring about social equality and change. While everyone will be provided for (minimal), freedom to choose is gone and the freedom to learn from the consequences of your mistakes to make your self better is also removed. For this reason socialism never produces great nations because the fact is pain and discomfort is really weakness leaving the body or society.

Or, Yes, if punch drunk means you have been hit more than you can rationally take so you laugh as your last-resort defense mechanism. This is a man that is in over his head. Remember, Obama has never run a business, has no prior executive experience, spent most of his life in academia and then as a community organizer where the prevailing philosophy is business has destroyed the life of those in poverty. In short he is in over his head, he is the quintessential political virgin, the 46 year-old political virgin

Great post. You hit the nail on the head. This man, this great leader, this tingle running up Chris Matthews leg, this leader is a fool and a dangerous one at that. Up until a short time ago I thought him to be a great snake-oil salesman, but he is certainly not that–this great orator could not sale virgins to terrorist. He is nothing without his teleprompter. Every time he steps from behind its security he becomes a babbling idiot. Bush was not a great speaker, but a least he could speak “off the cuff” this man cannot even do that. He is totally lost without his TOTUS. Some of the people are beginning to see this, and with time maybe, just maybe more will see the truth.

The more I hear those clips with him laughing the more I get frustrated. You are right, he has no idea what to say when he has to speak of the cuff, that laugh is annoying and is a way to stall for time to come up with aa answer.

Yeah, then Obama tries to cover by saying something about “gallows humor” . What a dolt. To me, it sounded like a “I have no idea what to say, but aren’t I charming” laugh. It’s just his tone and pitch that sound arrogant. He’s a well trained teleprompter reader. I used to wonder if he was an alien hiding his antennae, but now I think he is a robot. I’m just waiting for the sparks and the head to blow off. If anyone else but me (total nerd) has read the entire “Dark Tower” series by Stephen King, Obama reminds me of stuttering Bill.

From the page: “You’re sitting here.

My thoughts: I would of asked, “Are you stoned!”

Maybe he was, in a way that would be better. At least he would have had an excuse for sounding like Jeff Spicoli from Fast Times At Ridgemont High.

I knew there would be someone out there trying to infer something from Obama laughing for a minute. Ironically, Fox News and particularly Politico.com gave favorable writeups on Obama’s performance on 60 minutes. So really, how big of a right-wing whack job do you have to be when even Politico.com and Fox News had nothing bad to say about Obama’s interview?!
