San Diego Christians Targeted for Praying in Their Home

May 28, 2009

A San Diego pastor and his wife hold regular bible studies in their home once a week. Can you imagine their surprise when they were threatened by the local authorities with fines if they continued to practice their Christian faith with friends in their own home?

It seems far-fetched but that is exactly what happened to this San Diego couple. They were told that they were in violation of county ordinances because they held bible studies in their home.

“The county asked, ‘Do you have a regular meeting in your home?’ She said, ‘Yes.’ ‘Do you say amen?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘Do you pray?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘Do you say praise the Lord?’ ‘Yes.”

It was after answering these questions that the pastor and his wife were told that they faced thousands of dollars in fines if they continued to hold bible studies in their own home. They were told that they were guilty of “unlawful use of land” and were ordered to stop their religious assembly.

Needless to say this seems like a clear violation of the first amendment to me, I cannot believe that a couple can be stopped from the free exercise of their religion in their own home with other like minded individuals who gathered to pray and study the bible.

It is totally unacceptable that San Diego thinks that they have the right to stop people from practicing their religion in their own home. How can they possible justify such an attack on the constitution? What right do these people have to tell this pastor and his wife they can no longer conduct a bible study in the privacy of their own home?

Seeing how the pastor won’t say it himself I will say it for him, to quote Ron Burgundy in Anchorman, “go fuck yourself San Diego.”

That whole state is a freaking mess. Mine is a close second, so I’m not just taking the opportunity to pile on. Thank God Obama pulled some nitwits from our state to serve on his administration.

Your state is pretty screwed up, but I would take the chance to pi;e on if I were you though. Any time a Ma. resident can laugh at another state they should take that chance.
NH isn’t as bad as Ma. yet but we are getting there.

Holy crap! I am having a hard time believing this one. Sounds like 1930’s Germany to me. This is what we get when we allow our elected leaders to trample on any of our liberties, no matter how small. The more they get away with, the more they will take away until this country is much like Nazi Germany.
I hope that there is much more to this story and there is some reason for the violation of these people’s liberties.
The good part is that blatant violations of our Constitutional liberties like this will serve to wake people up and force them into action. I just hope that it’s not too late.

They start out small but once they get away with it their goals get bigger and bigger. Before you know it they are trampling over all of our rights and by the time the people wake up it will be too late and they will wonder what happened.

Prayer in school, prayer in homes, What’s next? Is the government going to tell us that we can’t pray openly? We live in a “free” country but yet anyone can state their opinion and practice what they feel is right other then Christians in their own home! We don’t live overseas in China or North Vietnam, why are they pulling this in our “FREE” country? This is ridiculous! <

Soon you will have to pray silently in bed when nobody can see you so that there is no chance that anyone will be offended.

Oh, I am so glad you wrote on this. I read the article yesterday and was blown away by the fact that it is so unbelievible. California is screwed up in so many ways, but even I dind’t see this sort of intrusion into the private affairs of people on their own private property. I could see if they were cooking meth and were a threat to their neighbors. I might even be able to see if they were running their home as a brothel… But this is just a money and power grab on the part of the county.

    Disgusting…

They are using parking as the excuse, but that still doesn’t explain the line of questioning. It does sound like this will be swept under the rug.

Yeah, CA really needs money. Might as well start by charging fines to people who are traditional (ie a threat to the moonbat freaks). I honestly feel bad for Arnold. I do think this is more about money than about squashing peoples 1st amd. rights. But, if there is a Nanny state, I think CA definitely qualifies.

I don’t feel bad for Arnold, he isn’t a Republican anyway.

The way I read the initial article it was mentioned that parking was probably the root of the problem. I couldn’t understand the line of questioning, thought that it was remarkable. I know of people all over this country that have small group bible sessions, small group political meetings, poker games, Tuperware Parties, and a host of other gatherings. Some families have enough members to occasionally cause parking problems. Somebody needs to talk to the neighbor who complained, maybe invite him to the studies. Sounds like he needs it.

If the parking was the problem than why the line of questioning? Maybe the parking was just an excuse to see what was going on in the house.

I wonder if the group had been on prayer rugs if they would have been shut down.

Luckily, I inherited an old prayer rug from my grandmother, a souvenir of her visit to Turkey. Maybe I need to display it prominently in my living room. Oh, and I should start making my wife wear a head covering, and maybe, beat her from time to time. Then I should be safe from interrogation.

Hang it up outside your house instead of the flag. They are sure to leave you alone that way.

I find it interesting that so much of this is now cropping up just as Obama becomes President! Hmmmm….coincidence?

I think this is pretty much a state level thing.City, county and state government has become the real danger to freedom in America, we just find blaming the Beltway easier. I will say this though all across the nation where people have ceded power to bureaucracies freedoms are infringed and adulthood battered.

Alfie – this is happening at the White House level to as they are vetting prayers that contain the name of Jesus. If you have it in your prayer, you are asked to remove it and if not the prayer is removed.
