President Obama is open to a newspaper bailout

September 20, 2009

Just when you thought that all of the bailout talk was over along comes the next possible government bailout– the newspapers.

Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) has introduced S. 673, the so-called “Newspaper Revitalization Act,” that would give outlets tax deals if they were to restructure as 501(c)(3) corporations. That bill has so far attracted one cosponsor, Cardin’s Maryland colleague Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D).

This bill would give tax breaks to newspapers if they restructure as non-profit organizations. The president has said that he “will be happy” to look at this proposal.

Call me cynical but does anyone else have apprehensions about newspapers getting preferential treatment from the government. There would seem to be a major conflict of interest here. How would newspapers be expected to be impartial if they were receiving federal money?

Yeah, I’m sure he IS, lol

After that… time to get Limbaugh off the air with his Alinskyite FCC “diversity czar” and then put a lid on the blogosphere.

Obama… the most anti-American person I’ve ever listened to for than five minutes- and a complete loon. IMHO this country’s already had enough of this nut- what a nightmare.

Let’s take the politics out of this… newspapers, like the post office are losing millions because they are trying to pitch a product/service that is no longer as appealing to the public. As new sources have become increasingly biased and their integrity has fallen away, so to has their demand.

But I wonder, who will donate to these new “non-profits”?

Yes selling something that no one wants is a Washington marketing strategy.
If they won’t buy it we will remove all competitors so they have no choice.
If they still wont buy it we will make them pay for it anyway and then we’ll give it away It will be delivered to their door every day with or without a subscription.
Who needs advertisers when you have a rich uncle?

I heard Government Motors has a novel idea for anyone who buys one of their cars.
They call it a 60 day guaranty. That’s right, if you don’t just love your car you can return it and it even comes with a 4 year 100,000 mile drive train warranty.
What will they think of next?
If you wish to return the car just call the toll free number and their agency PickumupnDropumoff will be right over in the purple shirts.

Lets not forget that 69 million people asked for this kind of Hopychange.
I think they need to be reminded on a daily basis in between the soups and American idol.
Of course they think its obnoxious to be reminding them.

Well, that will end journalistic integrity and freedom of speech in one fell bailout! Unbelievable.

Gee, Mr. Pinkeyes, the ones needing the bailout aren’t impartial to start with. It will just make Obama’s ownership official. As to keeping them in the team, non-profits have only one real enemy, the IRS. Do you think Team Obama will not use it if necessary?
