Michelle Obama claims childhood obesity is a national security issue

February 10, 2010

Michelle Obama unveiled her new “Let’s Move” campaign to fight childhood obesity, while this may be a noble effort I disagree with the premise that this is a job that the government should be involved in. Fighting childhood obesity should be left up to the parents and their children’s doctors. But that is not the purpose of this post.

During Michelle Obama’s unveiling of this new program, she actually claimed that childhood obesity was a national security issue. How could she possibly make that assertion?

She said that “this epidemic also impacts the nation’s security, as obesity is now one of the most common disqualifiers for military service.” It is certainly a stretch to equate obesity as a disqualification for military service  as an issue of national security.

I understand the point that she was trying to make, but it is a reach and it was made in an effort to gain support for another costly government program in the guise of national security to gain support from those who otherwise would never support it.

I think that this move was very transparent, unlike anything else in the Obama administration.

Just so you know, she didn’t originally make that claim. It was made in a pentagon report released last December.

What a crazy assertion, it just shows she is as clueless as the rest of the inexperienced administration. The real problem is they are not learning what the people are wanting and/or are ignoring us. The lies are getting old and the rhetoric is as well. We will get rid of as many Progressives as possible this November. Great Piece, keep up the great work!

This could be a big November if this administration continues to ignore us. We will be heard!

This is the first time I heard a liberal express concerns about military recruitment. Like you say just another opportunity for the government to enter the life of the average american. Those on the left think government and only government has the solutions to our problems—of course that is only true when they have the reigns of power.

That’s a good point Ron, this is the first time I have heard them express concern for the military as well.

Did you read Michelle Malkin today Mr P/E?

She makes a pretty good case that this is a favor for the SEIU… seriously. And that explains the desperation in attempting to tie it into national security, she needs to come through for Andy Stern because Obama’s agenda is going nowhere– and apparently she thinks we’re stupid enough to buy it.
