If the stimulus worked, why is congress working on a jobs bill?

February 18, 2010

Yesterday was the one year anniversary of the signing of the stimulus bill. Barack Obama and Joe Biden were running around defending the stimulus and all the jobs that it can be credited with saving. Barack Obama is crediting the stimulus with creating or saving 2 million jobs to this point. Even if that number is true, unemployment has jumped from 7 percent to over 10 percent since the stimulus was enacted. We were told the stimulus would stop unemployment from rising above 8 percent. It seems like a hollow “victory.”

Only a fraction of the stimulus money has been spent so it would seem to me that if the stimulus has been so successful to this point, and most of the money still remains unspent, wouldn’t it make sense to spend more of the stimulus money to turn the economy around that way?

But that is not what is happening. This seems like a no-brainer to me, but why does congress need to work on a new jobs bill if the stimulus is working and there is still stimulus money left? If the stimulus bill was supposed to save or create jobs, doesn’t that make it a jobs bill? Why do we need a new jobs bill if that is the case? Doesn’t this make the jobs bill stimulus number two?

When Barack Obama signed the stimulus bill he thought that it would be the end all be all; he thought that he had saved the economy so he moved on and forgot about the economy to pursue a healthcare reform bill. Once it became bogged down he tried to claim that he was pursuing the healthcare bill to save the economy. The public wasn’t buying it, so on the one year anniversary of the stimulus bill he had to go out and defend the stimulus. He had to return to where his focus should have been over the last year.

If everything that Barack Obama has said about the stimulus bill is true we do not need a jobs bill, we just need to release the rest of the stimulus money. The money has already been allocated, why not use it before creating another spending bill? Because the president knows that the stimulus has failed to this point and releasing the rest of the money will also fail.

It is on to plan B.

Congress and our elected president (not just this one) have long worked very hard to get more and more out of the public for pet projects. If they can get approval for more spending under the name of “jobs”, then they will not be watched on their spending of the rest of the “stimulus” money. Great job with smoke and mirrors up there on the hill.

It is all about spending our money up there. And this bill provides them the cover to keep spending, that is all they care about.

I had the very same question. It just re-iterates for me personally that this man is not capable of telling the truth. He has an agenda and by God he is going to put it through.

The only conclusion I can come up with is Obama is desperately trying to destroy the middle class and as a result America. You cannot continue spending like this and believe that there will not be dire consequences.

As has been said many, many times, we can not spend ourselves out of a trillion dollar debt. Somebody needs to sit Obama down and teach him basic budgeting. He must have slept through that class at Harvard.

I am not sure he is doing it onpupose, but he could be. The fact might just be that he doesn’t know what the hell he is doing. I don’t know which is worse.

If at first you don’t bankrupt America, try, try again…

Stimulus by a*s, the money that’s left is a slush fund for the democrats this fall and now they want more. I susprised more haven’t figured this out by now. More dollars will be released in time and in the right places to help slumping candidates this fall. If one follows the money this will become clear! To the democrats money is the solution to everything—even winning elections, for their message is being rejected!

Yes, they could just be holding this money until shortly before the election hoping to get the biggest bang for their buck. It seems that is more important than getting the American people back to work as soon as possible.

I’ve talked about how they’ve retooled how they count jobs saved, now making it impossible to tell if a job was saved or not. Obama can throw any number he wants out there, and there is no way for anyone-including them to verify it. We do know that much of that money went to state governments to keep those bloated bureaucracies afloat. That’s not stimulus, that’s a waste of money.

There is no way to measure the “jobs saved” number. That is why the administration changed the goal of the stimulus from “creating jobs” to “creating or saving jobs.” It was done simply because nobody would be able to follow up on the “jobs saved” number, it is totally arbitrary.
