Democrats sour on the jobs bill

February 25, 2010

The jobs bill passed its cloture vote by a 70-28 margin making this the first piece of legislation that had any kind of bipartisan support but now it appears as though Democrats are beginning to sour on the bill.

Liberal Democrats are upset that Harry Reid threw out the original $150 billion bill in favor of the much slimmed down $15 billion version, but the problems do not stop there; Blue Dog Democrats are upset that the pay-go language has been stripped out of the bill.

As it stands right now, Democrats may not have the votes to pass this bill which just a few short days ago appeared headed to passage fairly easily. The infighting within the Democrat party could be this bill’s undoing. While the Democrats are trying to paint the Republicans as the party of no, the truth is that the differing Democrat factions cannot agree on a single piece of legislation. Democrats have stalled almost all of Barack Obama’s domestic agenda.

Up until last month the Democrats enjoyed a 60 vote super majority, there was nothing that the republicans could do to stop anything, yet the Democrats have not been able to come to a consensus on anything. We saw this in the healthcare reform debate; Democrats should have had healthcare reform passed long before the election of Scott Brown left the legislation on life support, but the intraparty bickering left the healthcare bill in limbo and now we may be seeing the same old divisions rising up to bite them on the ass again.

The Democrats and Barack Obama promised to unite the country but so far they have not even been able to unite their own party.

Thanks for the update. I haven’t been keeping up on this one like I should — other than noting that the newly-minted Sen. Brown voted FOR it. <>

Btw, I’ve added you to my Blogroll. Don’t know what criteria you may use, but I’d be honored if you returned the favor.

If this thing fails, all of a sudden Scott Brown looks pretty sharp for voting for cloture.

It breaks my heart to see the democrats in such disarray. The big tent party is coming apart and its really not surprising!
