Democrat says the drug war and border security are distractions from immigration reform
A group of Democrats– while blasting Arizona’s new immigration law– are claiming that the Mexican drug violence at the border, as well as securing the border, are just distractions that are taking away from their efforts to confront the true issue near and dear to them– granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants and their families.
The drug war that we have is another distraction from doing what we have to do right. If we do this right, we can move forward on the other issues
Sealing the border is not the entire issue, let’s just stay focused on the issue
Mike Honda is right about one thing; sealing the border is not the entire issue, but it is an issue that needs to be addressed, and it should be addressed before any other talks on immigration reform move forward. Yet he is claiming that this is nothing but a distraction, and that we should be focused on the issue. He makes it sound as if border security has nothing to do with illegal immigration whatsoever.
He is also claiming that the drug war is just a distraction. But what is this “other issue” that he feels is more important than protecting United States citizens who live at the border and who are falling victim to this drug violence? By “other issue” Honda means amnesty for illegal aliens. He feels that all this violence at the border is nothing compared to granting amnesty to many of the people who are committing this violence.
Meanwhile, an Arizona deputy was shot in the stomach after encountering a group of illegal alien drug smugglers at our open border. Maybe Mike Honda should ask this officer– who was just trying to do his job– if the open border or the drug war is nothing but a distraction. Maybe Mike Honda should ask this officer’s family if the open borders and drug war is nothing but a distraction. While he is at it, maybe he can ask the family of the Arizona rancher who was killed on his property by an illegal immigrant last month if the violence is just a distraction.
The people who have to live with this violence every day do not see it as nothing but a distraction, to them it is a part of life. And it is a part of life that they shouldn’t have to deal with because we should have solved this problem long ago. Yet Americans are dying and more of our children are becoming addicted to the drugs that are pouring over our border and we are supposed to be concerned about and concentrating on providing people who are in this country illegally amnesty more so than protecting our citizens and future generations from the drugs that are infiltrating this country?

Just a quick question, Steve, but does Mike Honda really know what is going on at our southern border? From those idiotic statements, I think he does not have a clue. How can he say that and still keep a straight face?

He probably doesn’t have any idea. If not, he should probably keep his mouth shut.

Steve, have your put any thought into how many troops would be needed to “seal” the border? Exactly how long of a border is it that needs sealing? Can you think of any other solutions that won’t cost so much as what you are advocating?

I wouls finish the wall– real and virtual– as well as patrolling the borders. Unmanned drones would be acceptable as well. It may be expensive, but not as expensive as paying for the lack of security through American lives.

Whatever it takes. Will it cost 12 trillion doll hairs?

Most people in America aren’t against immigration; they’re just against illegal immigration. For example, like most of our ancestors, my mother’s parents were immigrants. They came through Ellis Island and followed the various legal steps required in order to establish themselves as true citizens of this country. The immigrants crossing the Mexican border, however, have absolutely no interest in following these legal protocols. Once they cross the border, they change their names and/or purchase social security numbers in an effort to conceal their true identities from the law. It is not uncommon for an illegal immigrant to purchase not one, but two or more social security numbers, just in case one is flagged. I have witnessed this crime with my own eyes. (One day, a supposedly legal immigrant was asked to give their social security card to a receptionist for a job application and an interview. When the receptionist happened to ask to see the card a second time, the immigrant mistakenly handed over a different social security card with the same name on it, but with a completely different set of numbers…)
Don’t get me wrong: I’m not against Hispanics. I have many Hispanic friends, but they either have green cards to work in the United States or have become legal citizens. They decided to follow the rule of law and work within the boundaries of our legal system. Unfortunately, many immigrants do not, and it those particular individuals that we are most concerned about.
Now it seems that those who sympathize with illegal immigrants wish to hijack the discussion of reform by attacking the law recently imposed by the State of Arizona through protests and boycotts; a state mind you, that has been besieged with crime, drugs and an ever-increasing population of illegal immigrants. Don’t allow them this option. Speak out and take action. This is your country… fight for it.
In closing, I consider myself to be a bleeding-heart liberal: a Democrat. My ancestor, Roger Williams – one of our founding fathers, was one too; regarding the acceptance of different nationalities, cultures and religions as the vitality and lifeblood of any country. Nevertheless, I think that he would agree with me; that immigrants wishing to become legal citizens have not only the obligation, but the civil and legal responsibility to follow the rules of law established by any country in which they wish to become authentic citizens, just as our ancestors – both yours and mine – struggled so arduously and righteously to achieve.

“Out of touch” comes to mind. People are dying. States are being bankrupted. The list of issues goes on and on. The answers aren’t all that complex. There simply need to exhibit the will to address it in an effective manner.
